OPLA Sanji is so goated. His actor sells the character really well and fits perfectly in this adaptation although all the casting choices are top tier

Not only that, Taz Skylar is the cast member who put in the most work for his character. Not only did he learn martial arts and did much of the stunt work for Sanji, but he also learned how to cook to prepare for the role.

I like that they made him more Rizz than Simp for the live action, because what is funny in manga/anime can be creepy/cringe in live action

I hadn't considered what you said, about the entire episode being older veterans trying to teach youngsters how the world works. Garp and Luffy, Garp and Koby, Zeff and Sanji, and Mihawk and Zoro. All four receive acknowledgement, too: Garp saying, "not bad, boy," and "that uniform's starting to fit you." Zeff being confronted with Sanji cooking for a starving man and unexpectedly responding with "what a good kid." And then Mihawk calling Zoro's determination "magnificent." And all of this is happening before the audience knows what Sanji and Zeff's relationship is. That kind of stuff makes the live action series great for returning fans, but also makes it great to rewatch.

Steven John Ward, who plays Mihawk, is a true anime fan and I love that he gets to play around in a live action as one of the coolest characters in all of anime. At a convention panel they asked some of the cast who their "waifu" was, and while Sanji/Nami/Usopp's actors had funny answers, SJW said "Soifon" from Bleach and skyrocketed to the top of my favorites. He's my favorite actor on the entire show now.

My favorite detail of this episode is that they made Pearl. They made an entire costume to put in live action this ridiculous looking character. Only for him to be dead on the ground in the background for like 2 seconds.

I feel like a huuuuuge part of how this show could be as good as it is is purely because of how far along the manga already is. Like, if this was released as the manga was juuuust getting to Jaya there's absolutely no way they could have made it this good. No matter who was making it.

One of my favorite anime tropes that you hardly ever see in western media is that a normal human can achieve superhuman abilities and strength just by training and being that good. I wish the west knew how to chill and have fun like that, realism is highly overrated.

In the manga, we only hear of Krieg's fleet being devastated by a single man second-hand from Gin. We don't even learn Mihawk's name until Krieg lays siege to Baratie, is bragging about how he's going to take it all over, and then out of nowhere his huge galley is split in half, all attention immediately shifting to this completely outside context problem that's quietly entered their midst.
I do like this change of Krieg getting cut out (pun intended) of the story so unceremoniously. He's the weakest villain of East Blue by a good margin, the fight with him delays the plot by a lot even in the manga (the MH5 toxic gas, Pearl...) and his connection to Sanji's story and dream is tenuous at best. And given the priorities of this arc, which are Sanji's relationships with Zeff and Luffy, Zoro's duel with Mihawk and Nami's betrayal, I think it's a good call to make more room for all of those. Especially considering the amount of episodes left, I imagine that they didn't want to have Nami leaving as an episode stinger and adding the complication of the crew splitting up to chase her (which wouldn't make much sense anyway because with Johnny and Yosaku gone from the story, another good choice imo, Usopp would be by himself). Adaptationally speaking it's a great move since it cuts out one of the weakest parts of East Blue to accentuate some of its best.
If I were to have one criticism of this episode it's that it cuts out one of Usopp's few cool moments from this point in the story, namely the scene where Luffy is trying out the ship's cannons without much success, only for Usopp to nail a target on the first try. It's a very deliberate inclusion to show what he contributes to the crew - he's their sniper and cannoneer, with the same talent for marksmanship as his father. But with him being pushed to the sidelines in his own arc and that moment getting cut I've seen more than a few people wonder why he's even here, which I think is a real shame.

While Krieg himself wasn't as imposing of a threat as previous enemies and later Arlong, his appearance is just as thematically important as the rest of the East Blue foes. Although it was blatantly obvious that his ruse of "just give me a meal and I'll leave peacefully" was an underhanded ploy, its purpose was to show the audience that Sanji is a man of principles and is not one to refuse feeding a starving patron, regardless of what consequences he will face afterwards. Even though Sanji feeding Gin also shows off Sanji's willingness to feed any hungry individual, it is him feeding the starving Krieg, in spite of his reputation and what threat he might pose when back to full health, that tells us that Sanji commits to his convictions and does not waver when it comes to his code of honor. It is also through witnessing Krieg's dominance over the crew, his mistreatment of his loyal right hand man Gin, and all of the weapons and armor he hides behind being shattered one by one that Sanji sees that Luffy is both different from the pirates he has come to know and has the power/tenacity to back up his boastful goals. He comes to understand and respect Luffy for taking the initiative to chase a seemingly foolish dream and is inspired to finally set off to fulfill his foolish dream.
Cutting Krieg from the live action series does make sense considering how the Arlong Park conflict serves as the climax for the season and you would want to give that story arc the time it needs. However, without Krieg and the thematic contrast he represents, what is left to inspire Sanji to set sail with Luffy? He doesn't even see Zoro put his life on the line in his fight with Mihawk in this version, so he remains unaware of the lengths people will go through for their dreams. While he does have a little bit of a bonding moment with Luffy that wasn't present in the manga, there isn't anything that can elicits inspiration for Sanji to truly take up Luffy's offer in earnest. Without the conflict with Krieg or even witnessing Zoro's duel, there is nothing in this version that challenges Sanji to quit wasting his life on the Baratie and take a chance on adventuring to find the All Blue. I do understand the need to streamline the story given the episode count of the season, but this show cut a crucial part of Sanji's recruitment to the Straw Hat Pirates and provided nothing to replace that missing void, inadvertently making this Sanji's recruitment feel a tad hollow.
