9:25 Did you notice Sanji had the only knife? I believe Zeff gave him the knife for a dark reason. Zeff knew that if he got hungry enough, he might attack Sanji to either steal the food, or kill and eat Sanji. With the only knife, Sanji had a chance of fighting back against a weakened and starving Zeff.
It just occurred to me that Zeff almost certainly used oregano on his leg. He'd never waste food, and his pride as a chef would absolutely not allow him to him to create a bad-tasting meal. His leg was probably delicious... and I am really not sure what to feel about this.
The real question is where would he get stuff to make a fire? So no, I don't think it was delicious 😅 and it's probably better that way, it somehow would seem more disturbing to me if he actually did treat his leg as an actual meal instead of just a desperate survival attempt.
I like the arlong fight at baratie. It lets them condense stuff a bit its oretty much the same thing that happens in the furst round at arlong park. Luffy fights him without really knowing who he was or why. Just cause he was defending his friends. Don kreig had some good moments but he kinda doesnt matter in the long run so his cameo was enough. This also lets them skip a lot of the running back and forth between locations in arlong park.
To your point on Garp at the end of the episode, I took “the gloves are coming off, no more soft targets” to mean no more warning shots and small party’s of Koby, Helmeppo and 2 marines and instead shot to sink
I get "less is more", but how was Arlong beating up Luffy 'not terrifying'? It establishes that he's a legitimate threat, because a bad guy who can back up his talk is always scarier than one who just talks. Plus it also builds up anticipation for the upcoming arc, and the inevitable second confrontation, which is a strong narrative decision imo.
Yes, but what establishes all that is that Arlong beats Luffy. The thing is, how he defeats Luffy is what makes the difference. The problem is that he basically throws Luffy around a lot, which we as the audience know doesn’t damage him, so it makes little sense why Luffy is struggling, especially since he is going to beat him an episode from now. Had the show utilized the true power of the fishmen by making Arlong throw Luffy in the water as soon as he realized he was a devil fruit user, the effect would have been much better without sacrificing logic. We as the audience know that Luffy can’t swim, so Alrong dragging him under the sea would have been terrifying! Plus, if Along beats Luffy via water, then it still makes sense that Luffy beats him outside the water.
@@branchminer1A scene where Arlong grabs Luffy and dives into the water whilst plunging him deeper and deeper would've been sick, plus they could've had Sanji save him still but add some elements of his Kurobi confrontation from the anime/manga

27:18 Why would Arlong do that? He would never admit he needs an advantageous situation to beat a human. But also, if he'd go that far, why wouldn't he just kill him? Do you think Arlong cares enough about Luffy at this point to resist the urge to feeding frenzy his ass once he starts bleeding underwater? All so he can save him and make him bow? Arlong already made his offer, but Luffy rejected it. Now, he has to die. That's Arlong's motivation in this scene. He'd like to make him bow first, but the only way this ends is by Arlong making an example of him. If Nami didn't "save" Luffy, there was no way he would have survived this encounter. I understand your point that having Luffy fight Arlong once makes him a bit less intimidating, but only a bit. Obvious to everyone in the audience, Arlong was toying with him here. Yeah, Luffy got some punches in, but he has to for his win late to feel believable.
