Want to say many thanks to Alan who was kind enough to take a picture with me at the Nashville Fan Fest. I felt bad asking because he seemed to get bothered every few steps he took, but he was very gracious and understanding. Legend on and off the football pitch. This podcast is so good that after each game I immediately start thinking ''Uuuuhh I wonder what Gary, Micah and Alan will say about this one''. If your podcast reached to a point where you wonder what will be discussed about games in next episode instead of enjoying your team's win, that means all crew of The Rest is Football is doing something marvelous!! Cannot thank enough for this podcast!! Cannot imagine the episodes after end of PL and during Euros this summer. (I hope you will continue this during the Euros)

And lingering shots of the manager(s), the bench, ex-players in the crowd, random celebs, kids with banners. Etc, etc.
During the cdr final they were showing replays while the ball was in play which made no sense
I hate that too. And ye can hear the crowd react to something in real time, and your left watching some lousy shot drag wide

The NBC covers of the Premier League over the years has been outstanding. Rebecca Lowe and the pundits have done a first class job developing the sport here in the States. Many fans here support Premier teams first and MLS clubs second!!! Alan as usual did a great job supporting the League and the fan fest. And yes the podcast is outstanding.
The replay thing is so frustrating and drives me mad.

My take on the replays: I think it's fine to show replays when nothing's happening in the game but if you do that you NEED to be able to instantly show the game again and the people controlling them need to watch the game ready to show it if something does start happening. It's ludicrous that the viewers can hear something happening before the controllers can change back to the live feed, and if they can't manage the quick switch (which they apparently can't) then I agree that they should just stop doing it but I can't help but acknowledge that those mid-game replays have helped me catch things I've missed. Just wish they could do their job a bit better, I guess.

Interesting that VAR and the ref thinks punching a player doesn't warrant any action. Maddison got away with one there.
As an arsenal fan I have to say Mainoo from the small amount of games ive seen him in has a high footballing IQ for this age and will no doubt be a baller as a 8 going forward . He has great ball carrying and passing ability and he can dictate the tempo of the game knows when to slow things down and retain the ball or go forward and creates scoring chances for his teammates. He has great vision and fairly precise distribution.On a defensive contributions level he is timely with interceptions and tackles. His adaptability to different positions is also on a ridiculous level and has bags of agility in tight half spaces as well as amazing composure for this age. I cant see him failing at united he seems to be getting better and better in every game I see him in and doesn't shy away in difficult games and big games . United just need a certified 6 really like Amadou Onana which I hope arsenal can get.

I'm sure I've seen rare occasions where a replay gets overlayed in such a way that you can see both, and then they zoom back in on the live action. I think I would prefer that.

The Ben White incident is difficult to see. Its looks like Estupinan slapped him on the adams apple just off camera. After the initial shove he took a second swipe at him but its just off camera. So I cant say it is definitely play acting.

Yes Gary 🙌 the replay timing is ridiculous. I thought it was because I watch the games predominantly on Peacock and USA and that our broadcast booth/producer/directors didn’t know any better since they are used to huge stoppages of time with American football, haha. But it sounds like Sky Sports are equally as guilty. Strange decisions . . .

I'm neutral and i find it bizarre how many people think that was a penalty. You cant physically see any contact and he was already going down even if there was contact.
Excellent podcast. My peeve is with football commentators who keep saying 'I wonder how important this will be in the title race'. No one will remember that incident or the 100 others they refer to when it's done and dusted.

Micah says that Arsenal's goal difference is like an extra point. I hear this all the time and it's a bit of a bug to me. It's an extra half a point. If it was a point then city could finish a point ahead and still wouldn't win the league so if we say its half a point all is good

Not taking anything away from the finish from Mainoo, but were we watching the same game when we talk about his performance? He looked like a lost kid at the corner for Diaz goal. He was also highlighted by Gary and Carra during the game for going walk about. We could blame the coaching from Ten Haag but don't special players adapt and take the game into their own hands

Obviously he's 19 so many aspects of the game wouldn't be that ingrained in him. So luckily they drew and he can learn from this game without negativity. However they need a different voice to show him that. They need a better base so that he can go be a better attacking 8. With proper help around him to help control games better so he can learn better. They can improve on what they failed to do with Pogba and correct it with Mainoo. I don't expect him to dominate games now but with 3 years in his belt definitely.

Rice has been quality every game and you can tell that by being in the conversation with Rodri on whose been better. My issue with refereeing and var is that they go in with the wrong mindset. Looking for ways to cancel goals, or give red cards, or offsides, or handballs. It should be, how can we impact the game, the least. Is this enough to prevent this goal, is this enough to send this player off. Red cards ruin matches and yellows are dished out far more often leading to reds for innocuous challenges. Handballs laws overly complicated. Have they deliberately tried to impact the ball. Simple and left to the interpretation of be ref. And lastly, Var’s mind set needs to change the most. Sending officials over to explain why a player should be sent off, or goal should be disallowed. If you’re doing that, what’s the point in sending them over? It should be left for the ref to interpret whether they’ve made a mistake, or missed something. Not told they have. Otherwise, it’s redundant.

Couldn't disagree more on the club comment, the guy was played in international football and like big opponents in the league / FA Cup he looked right at home!

Sancho was in the Bundesliga, mainoo is already in the PL and playing well against PL opposition, and internationally against Belgium.
