- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 23 พ.ค. 2024
- Why was Kasper not at Jamie Vardy’s house to watch Leicester win the Premier League? What impact did being one of the first on the scene at the helicopter crash that killed Leicester owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha have on his life? How did growing up with the likes of Eric Cantona, Steve Bruce and his father Peter give him a burning desire to succeed that was unmatched by his peers?
Gary is joined by Premier League and FA Cup winner Kasper Schmeichel to discuss his incredible life in football so far and how Denmark are planning to stop England at the Euros.

He speaks so precisely and succinctly, but is really engaging too. A natural storyteller.
I got goosebumps when he described the feeling of winning the league. Incredible storyteller. Would love to see him as a pundit in the future (if he wants)
@@whitenbald he did an episode of mnf once and did v well imo so I wouldn't be surprised
Fair play to Kasper for understanding the assignment. Too many footballers come on platforms like this, and the conversation just turns into an interview. Great stories and insight.
I’m a Manchester United fan and was thrilled for Kasper to have won the Premier League with Leicester. A legendary acheivement
I second that
Nobody cares who you support
The best way to describe how insane that Leicester title win is, it kinda gets forgotten like it didn’t happen, like it wasn’t real, it still doesn’t feel real. Even just thinking about it now, it’s like it happened in a different realm, in a season, in league separate from the one we’ve been watching for 30years, that’s how much of an outlier it was, how much of an unbelievable anomaly it was. It’s so hard to grasp and compute just how big of an achievement it was.
Spot on
And 99% of fans genuinely wanted them to do it with a few games to go - outstanding
What a classy lad. He got full rights to be rebellious from his royalty upbringing but Peter taught him well. What amazingly well adjusted of a young man he is, to have lived through some of football's most unique tragedies. Best of luck in EURO!
Kasper surely has a future in tv, speaks so fluently and confidently
One of the best interviews I have seen - the insight into the world of goalkeeping at the professional level was eye opening. Kasper has always impressed me on the pitch but this interview has shown me that he is truly a quality human being , humble, intelligent and thoughtful. It doesn’t surprise me as I have always held his father in high regard on and off the pitch. Thank you Gary Lineker!!!
Totally agree, Kasper conveys his thoughts and emotions so well.
One of the best football interviews I've ever watched. Caspers life would make a great movie already, and he's still got a lot to give.
Kasper. Come on, mate. This is easy stuff.
What a brilliant interview, Gary - when the subject is so well spoken, best decision ever to just let him speak as much as possible with minimal interruptions. Thank you so much, and the very best to Kasper in his career and life.
We’re very proud of both him and his dad here in Denmark. 🇩🇰 They’re both great representatives of our country. Great men and great footballers, great captains/vice captains of our national squad too.
Fucking hell I'm enthralled by Kasper schmeichel talking. 100% pundit material!!!
This was absolutely magnificent! Thank you to Kasper for being so honest and transparent and thank you to Gary for being so gracious in his questions….world class!!
The way he described the helicopter crash was chilling. How traumatic. Kudos for opening up Kasper. 🙏
Us people outside football have always have this strange perception of footballers being not quite bright. For me, personally, I believe this is due to my dealings with the failed footballers I've played against in amateur leagues and in other matches. But listening to Kasper, so well spoken, the way he expresses himself, his vocabulary and obvious intelligence - I must admit I'm in awe. Great guy, thanks for this interview!
This is one of the best interviews I've ever seen. Kasper is a gifted storyteller.
Seen a whole bunch of Kasper interviews, this probably has to be THE most special one. Honest, heart-wrenching, beautiful, inspirational. Thanks a million for this Gary! ❤
1:12:40 I have a good friend who is a lifelong Leicester fan from Leicestershire. The day that helicopter went down was one of the darkest for the city in his eyes. That man brought hope and improvements to more than the club, the entire city felt his impact. Absolute tragedy for the whole community, football or not 😓
Most City fans still love Kasper. Watching him on Platt Lane training and seeing him progress throughout the years I have nothing but admiration for him. Respect Kasper and congratulations on winning the League with Leicester
Bloody hell Kasper! I’ve been a Leicester supporter for 60 years and your recollections of the club and the miracle of 2016 brought on a severe attack of hay fever.
Gary, sign him up before someone else does. His ability to articulate in such an engaging way is a rare quality. He speaks from such a genuine and honest perspective. His memories of the Leicester owner and Christian Eriksen were absolutely captivating on the edge of your seat stuff. Theres no way this man wouldn’t be able to provide something special to football commentary or just a break down of the game on a weekly programme. When he said Leicester will always be his team, it just highlighted what a special club it is. It’ll never be a world beater, but it has that something special that captures the interest and hearts of many neutrals. They should make a film about it and start from Leicester losing in the playoffs to Watford in that bizarre game that many forget was the catalyst for all that was to come.
The fact that this interview was 1.30 hour is itself amazing, followed by the fact, the conversation was so eloquent and the stories of Kasper were soooo captivating, got to say maybe one of the best footballer interview episodes out there...
Great job Gazza❤️❤️❤️
This episode is a standalone award-winner. Absolutely gripped. Kasper is a credit to every single person that has had an influence on shaping this impressive person. If he wants or wishes, he is nailed on for a post-playing career in media but hope he find a position in football that will create a generation of leaders in the game
So harrowing to listen to the helicopter incident and the loss is still very much felt. excellent podcast and congrats to Kasper for a great career that is still going too
"Failure makes you endlessly motivated or it breaks you" - so true, what an amazing quote!
Absolutely brilliant interview Gary, what a fantastic lad he is too. What a passionate and dedicated player with such great empathy. Loved Leicester winning the league even as a Liverpool fan, have many family and friends who are Foxes fans. Loved every minute of this. Thank you
A fantastic goalkeeper and an even better bloke. I don't think Leicester could've had a better skipper to lead them to the title.
Gave me some of the best days of my life. Thanks Kasper 🦊
One of the best interviews I've heard, full of passion, emotion, it had everything. Brilliant!
Great interview!
Having my attention effortlessly for 1½ hours is a feat in itself.
Didnt know how this show can be even better, now we know! What an emotional roller coaster!
Best episode of any football podcast, ever!
Absolutely fascinating.🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰
omg... after the henry interview, this is another one that is just out of this world. what an experience, a story .... yooooo🤩
the miracles of the schmeichels, the miracle of euros, the miracles of the premiere league...
the danes should combine their luck making wins and use them in a world cup run.... dad the manager, son the goalie. 🥰
Great interview, I think kasper is probably my favourite current player to listen to. great insight and just to hear the stories of the moments he's been at is incredible! great interview. And thanks Gary for letting him talk!
Best interview yet by a mile. Jasper spoke so honestly and with dignity about some very tragic events and on top of that when he talked about football it was like he was writing a love letter to the game. Great guy
Thoroughly enjoyed this interview, I always enjoy listening to a Schmeichel. Both are legends in their own way. Brilliant stories, whether they are happy or sad ones.
Outstanding interview and performance by Kasper 👏👏👏
The smile after he said “he’s talking!” was so genuine. Really powerful and moving way to tell these stories
Love listening to Kasper. Such a strong person who’s gone through so many highs and lows in his life. What a guy!!
wow what a great episode, the moment when Casper speaks about Christian brought tears to my eyes
Captivating. Not just how Kasper speaks but Gary for letting him. More of this please
I think both the Schmeichel's not only share both being professional goalkeepers and playing for their country, but both were involved in a team that won a trophy when they was not expected to. Peter with Denmark when they won the Euros without even qualifying for it and then Kasper with Leicester when they had narrowly avoided relegation the season before and go on to win the Premiership the following season.
Spurs fan here & yep you pipped us to that title, but gotta say, what a great lad, well done son for a steller career
Great in depth interview, but Kasper forgot his actual first ever professional game wasn't for Bury! It was for Darlington, in which they won 2-1 against Peterbourgh United, his first clean sheet came in the next against Grimsby. Over all Kasper played four games on loan for Darlington, before his loan spell at Bury. I've even got a photo of his dad Peter with my son and his friend watching his debut that day. 😊
newcastle fan here but always admired kasper as a top goalie and even better human being! and you have had a top career in your own right
I have skirted around watching this ep not because I don't like Casper or Leicester but because I tend to enjoy the 'bants' with you, Alan & Micah eps more. What a refreshing treat. Casper seems such a lovely grounded person. It was a pleasure listening to him & also seeing you gush!!
Captivating story. How one Footballer can go through so much. GGs Kasper
Very inspiring person and career. Voluntarily being a keeper, in line with his passion, despite knowing he would never get the deserved credit.
So beautiful, always loved listening to Kasper. But this is one of the most honest, wonderful talk I've ever seen...
What an amazing guest! He speaks so well and comes across as such a genuine human. One of the best episodes yet! 👏🏼
It’s gotta be said.. Kasper is one damn handsome man
Hands down, the best interview on 'The Rest Is Football' podcast. Simply fantastic!
Forever a legend in Leicester Kasper don't forget that
Brilliant interview, thanks Gary and Kasper (Toon fan).
What a wonderful human being, I wish there were more people like him on this planet.
I’m born and raised in Leicester, I still live in Leicestershire and the impact the PL win had on the city as a whole cannot be understated. The work the owners have done around the city, the investments they’ve made in public sporting facilities and just the massive boost it gave the city have all been amazing
This makes me want Denmark to win the Euros if England don't. Lots of respect, Kasper!
Truly adore these type of interviews.
Incredible interview. That 90 minutes flew by. 👏
I tell you what. I was aware of Kaspers intelligence and the fact he speaks a lot of sense. But crikey, I did not realise just what a top bloke he is. Cracking interview. Quickest 90 minutes ever. Peter must be extremely proud 👏
Great conversation…..thx Gary 👏🏻♥️
Great interview. So many ups and downs with different emotions
👏👏👏 best pod I’ve seen in a long time. What a man Kasper is
What a great interview. Well done to Gary for just letting him talk too.
congratulations. this interview is an absolute gem
Best pod yet. Loved that Gary. Kasper was so open.
Great interview indeed, seeing kasper for many years as a leicester fan was amazing, and maybe when he retires there is a great book to be written
Extraordinarily articulate and thoughtful. Great interview.
Truly was a great interview...
That Leicester win was the greatest achievement I have seen in the premier league.
Fantastic interview. What a great, humble guy Kasper is.

Superb. What a Guy. What a story.
Best Premier League win ever and will never be surpassed.
NUFC fan.
Amazing interview Gaz!
I like everyone else was a Leicester supporter for that season! If only Port Vale could pull off something even remotely like that lol
The only time I did not want man united to win the league in my life was when the miracle happened. Leicester City - champions of England. Kasper is a gr8 lad.
Fabulous interview Gary
What a goalkeeper and what a guy got so much respect for kasper and 1 of best podcast ive seen
Love the way he speaks. He comes across very well here. What a player and what a family!
Loved the interview. Kasper is a very down to earth guy. Love the podcast.
What a great guest. Could listen to him all day.
Great interview I loved Gary's face listening to the stories so special it was his club that did what everyone thought was impossible. I have to say I'm a fulham fan but I've never wanted a team to win the league as much as I did that season. Was truly remarkable what Leicester did but they was absolutely brilliant all season and fully deserved it
He came across as being very articulate, fair-minded and grounded. It was a very enjoyable interview.
Great interview. Articulated, insightful.

Doesn't matter who I'm a fan of, kasper is a top keeper and a top bloke 👍
