Experience the vulnerabilities and challenges of a mere cop who lets his darker side get the better of him. I have seen so many people who surrender to their ill will when things go south. "You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain".
Om Puri just nailed it. Smita Patil, like always, was spot on. And the small roles of Amrish Puri & Naseeruddin Shah couldn't stop them to prove how great they are in acting.
To make an impact on screen a heroine does not require skimpy clothes, expensive make ups, item songs ! Smita patil proved it with her simplicity and modest dresses !
It's one of the best Art film Bollywood have ever produced. The story , , dialogue, direction, Cinematography is marvellous. Acting Mr. Ompuri, Mrs Smita Patil, Safi Imandar and Omresh Puri are extra ordinery. The Movie will remain as evergreen, in coming decades. Kolkata. Thanks.

hats off to govind nihalani ji who has given a different perspective and view on the life of police department and their human impact with lovely performances from each and everyone of the cast and each and every dialogue can leave a lasting but meaningful impression on the audiences. after watching lousy but more popular films based on policemen as heroes and portagonists this film is way way above all those movies put together.

One thing about this movie is that people today have forgotten how things used to be. And the new generation has no idea what it was like. When we elect corrupt people to positions of power, this is what we get as a society. The 80s and 90s are a testament to that.
I had seen this movie when I was batchelor during 79-81. This movie shows-reveals the best acting performance of Om Puri. He has not acted but lived that role. He has excelled. Om Puri, Smita and Sadashiv Amrapurkar have taken this movie to a great height and it was beyond my expectations. Om Puri will be remembered specifically for this role Sub Inspector Velankar. Film also shows minute details of d working of Police Department and the credit goes to Nihalaniji.
Emotional is heart but life is practical. In daily life practice we need to find, all new ways & everyday. Intelligent is one who think before do anything.
