It blows my mind that people are so concerned about how painful a death will be for a murderer. The woman he murdered was not given that kind of courtesy. He didn't care how scared she was. He didn't care about how much pain she was living through before she was murdered.

Exactly my point. It seems these people do not care about the life he took and the inhuman and painful death he meted out to his victim.

It's odd, isn't it? Would the same people who turned up to this vigil have stood outside the courthouse for the victim who was violated with a knife in front of her children? I understand a deep disgust of a life for a life, but I also feel it's incredibly disrespectful to the family of the victim to protest the end of a person who did this kind of thing. The woman who died is never coming back. The child who was assaulted will never recover from those scars. I feel as if we're so desensitised to societal violence from these inter-species predators, that unless it's our family member, we can't muster the energy to care too deeply. But having this man removed from our planet is not a loss, or a tragedy. It's a net good.

@@phyllishannah7203 do you realize there are more men on Utahs death row who have been there for almost 40 years? Look up Ralph Menzies, Michael Archuleta, douglas Lovell, troy kell, von lester & doug carter. Everyone but Troy Kell have been on death row since the 80’s. Honie went in the late 90’s. Honies crime was horrible. However, watch Gladiator Days about Troy Kell. I believe it is on youtube. Hes a white supremicist that killed in vegas when he was 18 in the 80’s. Moved in a relocate prisoner program to Gunnison. And brutally in the most awful way possible masterminded and stabbed a black inmate 67 times. A few of those in his face. It was caught on prison cameras. The inmate he killed had his hands cuffed and couldnt defend himself. After Troy was done, he was super proud of his accomplishment. Talking about “white power popping off in here”. He even told people he was going to win an academy award for his performance during his trial. Meaning he would fake remorse.
Doug Lovell, raped a woman from Ogden, Utah in the 80’s. Then kidnapped and killed her later to prevent her from testifying against him. They have never found her body. Then lets move on to Ralph Menzies. He is rumored to have kidnapped a young mother working nights at a gas station. Taking her in the mountains and killing her. Then leaving her body at some picnic area. Michael Archuleta is the one whose story is one, if not the worst. That i do not even want to mention it on here. I dont know much about the others two.
So, he got 25 years while these others are still breathing. Who also did terrible terrible things. But they are still alive. Where is the justice for their victims?

I'm Irish living in Ireland. I used to think that nobody has the right to put a sentence of the death penalty on any person. But I spend a lot of time listening to interrogations, court cases and parole hearings from the US. I now think that hell isn't going to be hot enough for the monsters who go way beyond the actions of murder. If someone flips out instantly and kills someone by shooting or stabbing them. Those killers deserve life sentences. But when you listen to the depraved and downright evil like this monster. Who took more than the life of the girl that night. By mutilating and disrespecting her body, that's where I have changed my mind about the death penalty. I hope that his spirit will never have rest. He is a monster and a scumbag. There is absolutely no excuse for the painful and torturous death he gave this innocent woman.
I hope that her family will have a sense of closure, even though that will never be enough.

It is not a choice. Some people will drink alcohol and become violent, some people will drink alcohol and become placid. The same applies to drugs.
Some people will take no drugs or alcohol and do horrific murders. It is because their brain is wired in a different way. You do not have a choice in how your brain is wired.
You do not deserve credit because you take drugs and do not murder people. You are born with a brain wired not to kill people. In the same way you cannot blame people who do murder people and do unspeakable acts.
You and I should consider ourselves fortunate. We could not cut someone's genitals open and have sex with them. It is revolting and not even possible for us to do anything like that. Even the thought of it makes us feel sick.
If you are born with a miswired brain there is nothing you can do about it. You might find it difficult to feel sorry for those people, but casting blame or hatred on them does not make sense. Just be thankful none of your family become either the victim or the perpetrator of a crime like this.

Then don’t execute him. Let him live out his time in maximum security prison. No one has the right to take life. He did it and it was wrong. Executing is wrong. Prison life with no parole is no picnic.

I wish reporters would stop using the word "gentleman" when discussing scumbag criminals. It is insulting to decent, law abiding men who truly are gentlemen.

There's nothing inhumane about the death penalty because what this man did was worse than heinous to another human being.

Wow if ever someone should get the death penalty it’s him!! That poor victim and her family. At least justice will finally be served for her and her family. He is evil and it shouldn’t have taken this long for justice to come!! He got to spend time with his family and have a last meal. The victim was not able to go those things!!

I hate that they aren't talking about the victim or victims. I know he murdered an innocent women, but then hear that he hurt a child as well? What did he do? Forgive my ignorance. I know he admitted to committing a crime, but thats all I've heard. It's sad that they only mention the one of the victims maybe once.
