There’s a more recent episode called the copycat, where they address a copy of their show. I think it’s pure genius. The song where they tell the copies to be themselves, and the ending... amazing.

You should do a top ten best gumball episodes because when the show is good, it's stellar. When they know what they're doing, they can create some beautiful, well developed characters, break the boundaries of animation, have some clever meta humor as well as the classic slapstick, heartwarming and emotional stories, and deliver some fantastic social commentary. And some of the best episodes of this show combine all of that into one 11-minute episode. That's how great this show is or can be

"The Worst" is the only episode in season 5 that I would consider bad. It's amazing how the show just kept getting better as another season went by.

Strider cares, he is not just a TH-camr, he is a human being with thoughts and emotions. How would it feel if you saw this episode and knew of how many people are in abusive relationships? See something, say something, do something. There have been times where the police have arrived too late to save the victim, so Strider is possibly saving lives here.
Bullying is something that can also lead to bad things but it seems like people only focus on "The girlfriend" episode because Jamie was being abusive but I don't really hear people hating on her even though she's literally a BULLY, she physically hurts people and "The girlfriend" is the episode where people FINALLY start to notice!?

At the end of the day, bullies and the abusive partner in an abusive relationship know what they're doing is wrong, by and large. No amount of yelling at someone "You bully someone, that's wrong!" will make them stop, and the same goes from abusive partners. It was a stupid episode that acted poorly on an issue. That's life. Maybe the lesson should be to learn your values from your family and community, not the TV.

For #5, you make it SOUND weird, but with the dress, NOBODY knew it was Gumball. THAT was the joke.

@@hirvale Yeah,I get your point.But my point was that a kid couldn't get that message because there is no redeeming factor here.For example,in Ed Edd n Eddy,Eddy tried to scam people for money to get jawbreakers,but they almost always fail.In Gumball,he just gets rid of the dress because he wants to make Darwin stop chasing him.
I think the point he was trying to make is that the episode might give kids the impression that being a beautiful girl will make everyone worship you, so if everyone isn't worshipping the ground you stand on, you must not be beautiful or there's something wrong with you. I'm not personally bothered by the episode (though Darwin's creepy stalker behavior is a bit unsettling), but I guess I could see how some kids might be confused by it's "message", even though the message is suppose to be a joke. I guess depending on your perspective it could be taken the wrong way but I would hope kids wouldn't take it THAT literally.
Notice how almost every single episodes of this show start with “The”. The only episodes I know that doesn’t start with “The” is Halloween and Christmas.
that may be a reason why the show stopped since first there wasn't many things the writers could make for an episode and second the episode name could be bland and boring for audiences

I never took as much offense with the bad episodes since they aren't really supposed to be taken...that seriously, but I can see why people wouldn't like these episodes (I actually don't even think I saw the number one worst on this list, I don't remember it) thankfully the bad is very few and far-between and that's why I forgot there were bad ones at all XD
TheCoolperson1996 It's always good to see someone react sensibly to a countdown like this and say, "I might not feel the same way, but I can see why people feel the way they do." Far too often you see people having fits if they disagree with a list in some way.

Even thought “The Girlfriend” isn’t the worst discussion of abusive relationships I’ve seen(even though it treats the subject matter badly), I really like how he gave those numbers for people in similar situations at the end. That was one of the first signs that proved to me that the guy really likes and respects his audience.

My school actually did a program to counteract 13 Reasons Why in my senior year called “13 Reasons Why Not” and it showcased reasons why students appreciated their lives in general and in school. Actually a really wonderful thing.

Tbh “The Dress” isn’t really that far fetched. I mean, people were literally drinking Bell Delphine’s bath water. Simps now days are literally donating their salary to get pokemane to notice them. The Girlfriend seems like something you would expect in modern family guy
Oops. There already is an episode EXACTLY like "The Girlfriend" in Family Guy. Let me introduce you to "Screams of Silence: The Story of Brenda Q". Check it out yourself, but be warned, it's one of the most disturbing, uncomfortable and disrespectful episodes in Family Guy.
Can you just tell me the plot?
Here's the plot from the Family Guy Wiki (although I am giving you a Major SPOILER WARNING as a huge chunk of the plot is spoiled, and another warning because this episode is about abusive relationships and features auto-erotic asphyxiation (intentional restriction of oxygen for sexual pleasure) and murder.) :
When Peter and Joe return from a fishing trip with Quagmire was suspiciously absent, they check on him to find he tried to hang himself in auto-erotic asphyxiation. While Quagmire recovers from his "accident" at the hospital, his sister Brenda and her abusive boyfriend Jeff come to visit him. While Quagmire is unconscious, Brenda sings him a childhood nursery rhyme to help him recover causing him to wake up. Despite Jeff's complaints, Brenda agrees to take care of Glenn while he recovers. As the entire neighborhood is kept awake with Jeff's rants, Lois tries to talk to Brenda about leaving Jeff on a day out at a restaurant. When Brenda suspiciously continues to wear sunglasses inside the restaurant, Lois discovers Jeff gave her a black eye. Brenda tries to justify Jeff's treatment to Lois' disgust.
At The Drunken Clam, the guys discuss Jeff and Brenda. Quagmire worries that some night Jeff may actually kill her but Joe claims he can't act until after the fact (This episode has no idea about how the law works...) and suggests an intervention. Most of the intervention goes badly with Meg suggesting that Brenda change Jeff, Chris getting mad at Joe for calling him the wrong name and Peter changing the topic to smoking cigarettes, but Glenn makes a "heartfelt plea" -
"Brenda, the fact that you are being abused has affected my life in the following ways: The sister that I knew and loved growing up no longer exists. The person I see before me now is just a punching bag. And I call you 'person' and not 'woman' because a woman is a strong, beautiful, vibrant creature. A woman embraces life. A woman makes choices to make her life better. Sadly, the fact that you are with Jeff, proves to me that you have made a choice to make your life worse. I-I want the girl I grew up with back. I want I want my sister back." (Heartfelt plea? As if.)
- and seems to have won over his sister until Jeff walks in. When Glenn tries to show Jeff the door, Jeff has Brenda announce that they're getting married because she's pregnant. Later that night over cards, Glenn continues to worry about Jeff's treatment of Brenda. When Joe comments that he wishes they could just beat him up, Glenn jumps on the suggestion and even recommends they kill him. Joe tries to put the brakes on the plot, but just then they witness Jeff ranting and striking Brenda and agree to waste him.
The guys go over to Quagmire's house and invite Jeff on a midnight hunting trip. While in the woods, Jeff claims he is surprised that Quagmire would invite him as he knows Quagmire hates his guts. Peter nearly slips the plot and Jeff goes off to take a whiz. Quagmire picks up his gun and says he's determined to just shoot Jeff when he returns but Jeff slips up from behind and points his gun at Quagmire's head. After ranting at Glenn, he smacks him to the ground. Joe reaches for his shotgun, but Jeff threatens to shoot Quagmire in the back of the head. Joe is momentarily stunned when he suggests they all put the weapons down and Jeff complies. When Jeff asks if they will also follow though on Joe's promise to forget the entire thing, they agree but Quagmire refuses to let it go. Jeff knocks Peter and Joe unconscious with the butt of his shotgun and takes Peter's car with Glenn out deeper into the woods intending to kill Quagmire. Glenn challenges Jeff's manhood, saying he has to shoot someone and Jeff agrees readily to do the job with his fists. Jeff beats Glenn senseless and then proceeds to strangle him until he collapses. Jeff grabs a shovel to bury the body only to be illuminated by the car's headlights. When Jeff is surprised that Glenn is still alive, Glenn shouts that he strangles himself everyday and runs down Jeff, crushing him against a tree. When then guys arrive back at the house the next morning, they find Brenda in tears over Jeff's failure to return. They give her a note they faked explaining that Jeff thought it would be best if he left. As Brenda breaks down in tears over Jeff, Peter notes that he wishes he could kill someone else and gets an idea about Mort Goldman.

I just realized that “The Dress” is a complete Simp Episode.
The robot actually has an amazing message of how pretending to be someone else and being a copy cat is the worst thing you could ever do. And “the worst” tried to communicate how we should try to walk in other people’s shoes, it is actually amazing the way they show stereotypes and “life struggles”.
But one of my favorite jokes is in the girlfriend

ThatGuyMarco03 there's an entire episode where they try to almost kill themselves to make their clones actually kill themselves. The show is often rather dark.

ThatGuyMarco03 dude there was an episode where the whole town is about to murder the entire watterson family because they were sick of their crap and it ended on gumball saying the only way this would end is if the whole world resetted (I don't remember what he said mind you cause I haven't watched the episode in a while) and it was a season 2 finale that means if the show got cancelled it would have ended right there of course the show is dark In fact it's one of the darkest Cartoon Network shows I've ever seen not as dark as say samurai jack or courage but still pretty dark in terms of humor
It really showcases how nice of a person strider is by showing those phone numbers. I've never been in an abusive relationship, but I know that some people have.
"The Hero" is one of the best episodes there is.

It has potential with a great second half but I HATE how neglectful Nicole and Anais are
Now I personally understand that Gumball and Darwin deserved a consequence for calling Richard stupid, but it is a bit overboard for Nicole and Anais to reject Gumball and Darwin. They're forced to shower outside, eat outdated or infested foods which makes them grossed out and somewhat starve, and are constantly yelled and denied anything by Nicole and Anais. And in the end, this torture of Gumball and Darwin makes them try to make Richard feel like a hero? I understand that Nicole is quite aggressive when she's angry, but for Anais to side with her after the abuse she gave the two siblings is kind of crazy. The episode may not be as bad as Strider described it, but it isn't one of the best if you overview it. Opinion respected, I definitely can understand if you liked the episode.

"The Hero" Genuinely makes me cry every time I hear Richard's song. Like it doesn't matter what the circumstances of my day-to-day life are, if I hear even 5 seconds of that song, I start bawling for no reason. It left a mark on me when I first heard it cuz my dad was far from perfect in the beginning, but he persevered, and I couldn't ask for a better dad today.
The Laziest was straight up a Fanboy and Chumchum episode...so much that I even included a clip in one of my videos (As a fanboy and chumchum reference). Do not like that episode :/

I was in a emotionally unstable relationship, and the things said in The Girlfriend really reminded me of the stuff we both said in that relationship. I would love to see it portrayed well. Sometimes someone outside the relationship has to say it and you can't see the issue until you're out of it. Please try again, Gumball creators

I only like the first season. The change in style ruined the show for me and I've hated it ever since. The style was unique but now it's just as bland and boring as your average cartoon.
I haven't seen that episode "The Girlfriend" before, and I'm seriously disturbed by that message it's telling. Setting boundaries, communication, remembering how important you are as an individual and not just as someone's object of affection, these and more are all vital things in relationships.
I am genuinely appalled that that episode was made and aired. That message they're trying to say, that the person who got abused is at fault for speaking up, that is some of the most blatant and disgusting victim blaming I've heard of in a story like this.

Dariush Asadi yes no show is perfect, but personally I think this episodes message goes way too far. I can actually see this episode do real damage to children, and I just can’t forgive that. But that’s just me.
John Brett I don't think you should take Gumball seriously though because it's known as satire not heavy on morals. Just remember all the great and creative epsiodes from this show has offered. Maybe the message being told in that ep was sarcastic? Think of it as a step forward since Gb has improved over the years and still running! It be a shame for this one ep to ruin your enjoyment. I think what they try to show was parody of bully crush trope - relationship like the one with Helga and Arnold for example. They fail doing that, but I thik that was them meant to do.
The problem with the whole TRIGGERED thing is that at first people used it incorrectly and then it became a joke and now nobody takes it seriously. I learned long before it became a meme that those were real problems through my own experiences.

It would've been nice for Darwin to actually tell Jamie himself and for Jamie to either learn from him leaving her or for Darwin to like get help for himself (and possibly for her) if she didn't learn from that experience, because some abusers or toxic people don't see the error of their ways, even when it's pointed out to them. Just feels like a missed opportunity for a powerful message.

Just do what he says!". Had I seen this when I was younger, I don't know if I'd have known when to get out. Thank you for bringing light to how bad this one is!

I was in the same kind of relationship. My ex was trying to manipulate me emotionally, then when I broke up with her, she tried to get me expelled and possibly arrested. The best part about it was that I found myself a lovely new girlfriend whom I treat with respect and care, and she treats me the same way, whilst she is trying to date the underclassmen and failing because everyone has heard what happens. Poetic Justice if there ever was such a thing to exist.

Most of the worst episodes are in Season 1 and 2 but I’d say the episodes become infinitely better at the start of season 3.
I'd argue and say the second half of season 2 is when it gets really good (and weird. Watching "The Sweaters" was like a fever dream). season 3 definitely kicks it into high gear though.

Thank you for being such a caring person. I was in an abusive relationship where she always took advantage of me and hurt me physically and emotionally. In the end, she cheated on me and stole $1,000 from me. I am with someone else who loves me unconditionally, and I wouldn't trade it for the world!

No matter who you are, everyone deserves to be happy, and I cannot believe that anyone would do something like that to another person. To me, people who hurt others for no good reason are some of the worst people imaginable, and those that simply try to take advantage of others and expect to give little to nothing of value in return are just as awful. Even with that being said, nobody should have to feel unhappy, and we should all be with people that actually want to do so. It makes us feel like we matter, and nothing is more important than that. I hope the relationship you've found with this person is something that lasts a lifetime. After what you've been through, you deserve it!

I didn’t mind “The Hero”. It by faaaar wasn’t the best but the end was actually really sad, and I liked how it switched from Gumball in the present to Gumball as a little kid. The end was definitely forced but it had potential, and if it wasn’t sooooooo dramatic it could have been very sad and emotional.
TLDR: Overall, not great but definitely not the worst

In the very first season, he seemed just like an annoying whiny sibling that was too lazy to do anything.
Later on he just turns into a naive dumb one.

Peridab I didn’t notice the bad messages in The Girlfriend until Josh pointed them out to me either. While I feel guilty about not initially noticing them, we should probably be grateful because it means we haven’t been there and done that.

As a person coming from a mentally and emotionally abusive relationship, The Girlfriend had a few parallels with me. Especially with the "if you break up with me" stuff. I wanted to leave my ex because he was a serial cheater and liar. He somehow convinced me to stay by saying he was sorry, it won't happen again etc. But it got to the point where he said he would *unalive* himself if I broke up with him.

I absolutely adore Gumball and is easily one of my favorite cartoons, but The Girlfriend actually made me uncomfortable and when I tried to watch it a second time I downright refused to watch on with that frustrating line of "be silent and wait for things to play out." I freaking love the writing, combination of animation, characters and stories, but hey every writer has their flops.
Yes. "The Girlfriend" was my least favorite episode as well. More so than anything from season 1. I personally don't like the bull character at all along with the gym teacher (ick). The fact that Darwin just let it all happen without taking action was a bit aggravating to me.

I noticed most of these episodes are from Season 1, it shows how far this show has come since then. It started out rough, but nowadays it’s an absolutely bizarre yet funny show 😉👍🏼
The view on "The Girlfriend" was one I never considered. I just thought it was another episode of Gumball that was just poking fun at how unstable Jamie was, which is still a bad thing to make as a punchline for a show. I always saw it as what not to do in a relationship and just a bunch of random gags, but I see how this can be dangerous for a child's perception.
I honestly liked the spooky horror movie references around the end of the episode
The issue is that the show itself *affirms* the "let them figure it out for themselves" by having Jamie actually figure it out for herself. It'd be one thing if Darwin finally learned to stand up for himself and get back at Jamie, but that's not what happens, and it sends a message that abusive partners will just change on their own, when that *rarely* happens in real life.
I actually liked The Hero quite a bit. When I first saw it, it actually jerked a tear out of my eye because of the heartwarming song. I do agree that the whole thing with Gumball and Darwin being tortured brought the episode down, I wouldn't call it the worst of Gumball.
Gumball was kind of a jerkass to his father though which is a little out of character. He may be the lovable self-center character but not that mean.

Ragnaric Studios The last Line was a joke. But 99% of the rest of the episode is stressing really hard that Gumball is right and Darwin was enabling Jamie. After watching this list, I watched through the episode fully and it’s actually one of the best imo. It sends a VERY clear message about abuse and just how far enablers will go to justify doing nothing about their relationship.
All I have to say after watching you talk about the subject of the #1 choice is....as a person who has friends who have been in situations like that, thank you for standing up to the monsters who wrote this garbage, giving people in these unfortunate scenarios the words of wisdom and comfort they need, and fighting the good fight *applauds you*
