  • @JRWatchman85
    @JRWatchman85 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have this laptop and the performance is top notch. It is very fast and the 4k screen is beautiful. The weak point for me is the sound volume due to speaker location, but not so bad as to be a veto on buying. My wife just bought the 9575 hinge version with the Radeon graphics card and slightly inferior processor, which I am eager to test out. She wants to draw and do photo/video editing on hers, and I like to play games on mine, so both of us got what we both needed from Dell. I spent more than I usually do on a laptop this time around, but I think the extra cost is worth it for the quality and performance.

    Hey Sara ! Nice review(again ). I switched to this exact laptop a few month ago after 5 years spent on a very good MBP retina 15,. I got the i9 version with 32gb of ram and upgraded the 1to Toshiba ssd to a 2tb samsung ssd evo 970. It has the power of a workstation but it’s almost as thin and smart as a macbook pro. Except my headphones, i don’t have to carry around any dongle and adapters. It’s really fast for rendering tasks and editing under premiere pro ! The only 2 two things i would regret from the macbook is the trackpad which is a bit more precise on apple computers, and the fact that it can sometime be a little bit noisier. Keep up the good work ! Hadrien

      @syedfahmi1436 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @NuclearFuel
      @NuclearFuel 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@syedfahmi1436 it does throttle a lot xD. That's why the Razer Blade 15 is a better choice because they have limited thermal throttling cuz of their insane vapour chamber.

      Syed Fahmi the thing with the dell is that even though it has an amazing core i9, the razer blade still gets better cpu scores with its 8750-h because of its crazy solution while the dell’a core i9 can’t stretch its legs with the thermal constraints

    I have the Dell XPS 7590 which is the newer version with the OLED 4k screen and I am so glad I went with this computer. WOW. It's the most quiet laptop I've ever owned and I've owned a lot of them. So this thing is a beast of a machine and is so fast and does everything with ease, but other brands can accomplish that. What they can't accomplish, is the build quality this Dell has. The fit and finish this Dell has. You have to feel the palm rest to understand just how insanely comfortable it is. I've never felt anything like it. Sometimes I just run my fingers over it over and over again and my coworkers are like "what the hell are you doing" and I say, "here, you try" and they're like "oh shit, I get it now."

      Lol I dont understand how there is a comparison between the Book 2 and the xps 15..the Book 2 does everything this laptop does and can be freaking detached to use as an i7 full windows 10 tablet.
      What the fuck..if you want a Windows 10 laptop and have enough money to consider the Dell XPS 15A spend it on the Surface Book 2 instead..the only downside WOULD have been reliability but not anymore as MS has fixed all the niggles.It runs smooth AF.

    • @frozenrohan

      @Sahil Sawant The i9 XPS 15 has throttling issues and performs worse than the i7 XPS 15..Honestly at least at this moment in time it is the Surface Book 2 that is the showcase of what a Windows laptop is, with the same hardware/software synchronicity that you would expect from Apple!
      Love Windows 10 lately though..all laptops I mean ✌

    I've had this laptop for about seven months now. It's an absolute beast! It's mad powerful, runs all my games beautifully and it lasts all day too. I actually stopped taking my charger to class because I simply don't need it anymore.
    After a thermal repaste, temps never rise beyond 63°C. It helped my gaming situation the most, but it's just made it even better, if that's possible. I've used Dells all my life, but this is the first time I've owned an XPS. I am so happy to say that I will never, ever use anything else!

    • @mr.p6828
      @mr.p6828 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@pauloh9818 Hi Paulo, my spec is the 9570 with 16GB of DDR4 and a 512GB NVMe M.2 2280 SSD. Now, when you game with the laptop out of the box, it can game fairly hard. However, it will get pretty hot on the surface. This eventually leads to thermal throttling, but there are two ways to turn the 9570 into an surprisingly potent gaming laptop by completely eliminating thermal throttle.
      Note: For everyone else who reads this, these tips can be applied to any laptop to help improve thermals, in case you're experiencing frame drops or just a very hot computer.
      1. Thermal Repaste - I highly recommend it. I use EnerMax thermal paste in mine, and it dropped temps like a ROCK. Go for a normal solution, there's no need for any liquid metal business.
      2. Disable Intel Turbo Boost - The i7-8750H processor is mighty powerful, clocking at over 4GHz when Turbo'd. This makes it very hot, though the performance improvement WHEN GAMING is actually negligible. Look around on the internet, there are a few scripts you can add to the registry to "disable processor power boost mode" (that's the keyword, use it when looking it up). What this does is lock the processor at its base frequency of 2.2GHz, but to be honest you don't need any speed above that. This way, it stays much cooler and it will COMPLETELY eke out any frame drop issues you have due to heavy thermal throttling. Even if you don't repaste, I implore you to disable Intel Turbo Boost because the processor is plenty fast enough without having to resort to Turbo Boost.
      Tip: When you install the registry entry that allows you to control the processor's boost mode, you'll find the setting in Power Options > Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Processor Power Management. There will be two options under this heading: On Battery, and Plugged In. Both will be set to Aggressive. What you need to do is change the Plugged In setting to Disabled, but MAKE SURE the On Battery setting is still Aggressive. This allows the CPU more control over its power consumption and will improve your battery life. So, when you plug it in, Intel Turbo Boost will be off, and you'll be able to enjoy an nice, cool gaming session.
      So these two tips, combined with the fact that a few BIOS updates ago, Dell sorted out the GPU's thermal throttling issue, will make your XPS 9570 the ultimate machine. Take it from me, I very regularly game on my laptop. It has no trouble running GTA V at a High preset (well above 60fps w. 2xMSAA, SSAO and FXAA), Forza Horizon 4 (consistent 60 with a Med-High setting, 2xMSAA, SSAO), Shadow of the Tomb Raider (High preset, no MSAA, medium SSAO) with between 45 and 60fps, as well as BeamNG DRIVE and Assetto Corsa at clean 60fps on High with 2x MSAA and full SSAO. I play all of these and not once does my CPU or GPU thermal throttle, nor do the temps get even close to 65°C.
      If you have a list of laptops and this is on your shortlist, I say go for it. You won't regret it! It's a very complete computer. It's thin and fairly light with a crazy battery life, and despite this, it's a pretty solid gaming machine. Granted, it's not cheap, but to say it's not worth every cent you pay is a bare-faced lie. Good luck!

      @@pauloh9818 If you're unsure, have someone do the repaste for you (good idea 👌), but I recommend doing the Disable Turbo Boost first.
      If I had to be super critical, I think the only thing wrong with it is the webcam placement. But since I take all video calls on my phone, it makes no difference to me. The surface also picks up fingerprints, but like Sara said, the soft surface makes typing for hours very comfortable, so I couldn't care less about the prints. I just rub them off when I'm done!
      Once again, I'm happy to help 👍👍

      @@pauloh9818 Also worth mentioning is that the XPS help department is super helpful. I got something stuck in the fan (stupid me, I used it on my bed right after spreading cookie crumbs, and it sucked them right up). I called them, and three days later I had a new fan in the mail. The fan was free, and even after I repaired it myself, my warranty was intact.

    Nothing about VRM throttling, the GPU temp limit and the CPU throttling in terms of heat and power. This video gives you no good info about the XPS 9570 in terms of its technical problems.

    I ordered this laptop a few days ago for my personal projects aka C#, Vue, SignalR projects. At work we use powerful Dell precision workstations ( laptops) that are extremely good for what you are trying to accomplish (video processing), however they are much higher tier than the XPS and while you won't get the thin and full edge screen, I'm pretty sure the precision models will process those videos much quicker than anything on the personal market. There is a huge difference in video graphics cards that are made for CAD vs the gaming cards. I would really like to see a comparison now that you have reviewed the 9570 with something like the precision 5000 or 7000 series.

    I was looking at the same two laptops when choosing mine, but I chose the XPS 15 9570. Mine came spec'd with a core i7, 32GB ram & 1 TB SSD. And can't forget the 4k touchscreen! So far so good! It truly chews through productive work and when you want to take a break to watch TH-cam videos, such as this very one, the screen is beyond stunning in every single way imaginable. The build is also quite impeccable, although I did snag a carbon fiber dbrand skin for it for protection and to spice up the looks a bit more. I will see how it goes over the long term, but definitely enjoying it so far!

      i9 is good but for huge render it may throttle. So you can repaste the i9 with a new cooler paste.
      But if you don't need it, the i7 is a beast.

    I just got mine a couple of months ago. I am loving it. I had never been into games but this runs games impressively well so now I got a couple tomb Raiders and Ghost Recoon Wildlands and after playing around with some display settings I am so impress how it can run such graphics and it does not heat up much when i play it at 1080. Editing video is a breeze! I love this computer so much. I am already thinking about getting a new one in a couple of years maybe. I seriously am loving this computer. so much power and great quality. Only downside for me is the battery life but i mean, there is a price to pay for a 4k monitor, right? still 5 hours of battery life is not bad when i am running a few programs at the same time. :)

My rendering times are never that short even though my videos are 5 to 12 min and I don’t shoot in 4k. I must be doing something wrong. Am I perhaps not using the dedicated video card? Any advice?

      How is it handling the work load so far? Trying to decide on this or the Dell G7

    • @JBCTR
      @JBCTR 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mark S It’s great, really is. If using Adobe, you need to configure the Adobe software to use the GPU, but once that’s done it’s damn good. Renders a 10 min 4K film with animations a plenty in approx 30 mins. My old Mac would take over 3 hours with less sophisticated effects.

    • @RealSnowMan78
      @RealSnowMan78 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JBCTR thanks for the info. Going back and forth between this and the Dell G7. I'm using it strictly for editing gopro footage. That's not my profession, just editing a couple videos a month and my 4 year old HP is certainly not up for the task lol. The G7 has the 1060 GPU but no 4k. I don't necessarily need the 4k because I'm not even sure I've even watched a 4k video. So that's not even in my criteria. Any thoughts on choosing between the two?

    • @JBCTR
      @JBCTR 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mark S Main things for video editing are CPU and RAM. Surprisingly, there isn’t a huge amount of GPU rendering going on. As the G7 comes with 16GB RAM, I’d go with the 9570 with its 32GB RAM if you are purely buying for editing. That said, it can thermal throttle but I guess that’s the trade off for portability 😁
