  • In this DCS: F-16C Viper video, we'll take a look at the basics of landing the Viper in a Visual Flight Rules (VFR) overhead break pattern.
This is from a pre-release build and is very much work-in-progress. We plan to release the Early Access version in early Autumn 2019.

In the video I had a bit too much separation from the runway, so I had to float the close-in final out a bit for proper lineup.

Great job, Wags. For the kids at home, 11 alpha (top of the staple) is correct for approach with a transition to 12-13 in the roundout. 13 is "on speed" but a much higher risk of scraping the ventral fin or the speed brakes (by going from 13-15 degrees) or sinking in the overrun.

The first thing you notice (even though you're expecting it) is the field of view the pilot has from the F-16 cockpit. Great design. I also like how crisp and clear the HUD symbology is in the F-16. Thanks for the vid Matt.

One problem with the plane are it's teeny tiny MFDs (and just two of them). You need VR zoom to see anything on them. Might not be much of a problem in the real jet, given the higher resolution of the Mk I eyeball. Also, the DED really likes to pick up glare when the sun is behind/besides you.

    Great video....can’t wait...
Wags did not mention flaps at all ....He probably felt it was taken for granted.... the crowd involved that we knew
so for somebody who does not know the F-16 here’s an exclamation
To be clear, you don’t manually set the flaps for normal takeoff or landing (unlike other aircraft). Like was mentioned, the gear position will tell the jet if you are in takeoff/landing or cruise FLCS gains, and it will schedule flaps accordingly.
One other wrinkle in the flap logic is the Alternate Flap switch, used to deploy the flaps in case of gear extension failure. The flaps go down to 20 deg, just as in normal gear down deployment. To prevent flap overload and control difficulties the flap will gradually retract automatically at speeds above 300 kt,, which is the normal gear down limit

I'll buy it for sure, i bought a lot of the modules that DCS made, but i'm definetly not buying this module on day one launch, i'll wait maybe next year depending on what kind of progresse they make. the only module i bought on day one was the F14 because my squadron bought it and we wanted to fly this beast so bad in multiplayer

At close final, the 2.5 lines are placed on the overrun and AoA is flown 11 to 13 degrees. This places the FPM just above the bracket at 11 and even more so at 13. You would fly at 13 if you wanted a bit lower touch down speed. Once over the overrun, the FPM is slightly raised to be 2-3 degrees below the horizon line. It's not a huge flare, but a lot different than putting down the Hornet.

Hi, I think the last few patches broke something about aerobraking.
This video recommends 13 degree nose up for aerobraking, correct?
In the current version of open beta, one can only aerobrake 13.5 degrees before tailstriking the viper. 11 degrees if using airbrake override.
Either DCS is currently incorrect, or 13 degrees is a recommendation that is too close to a tailstrike, in my opinion.
