Looking back at the end of the series there was no reason Franklin couldn't have rebuilt his empire. With Teddy out the way(thanks mom) if he was rational, or if they treated his character realistically he could have gotten it all back. But the last scene was remarkably acted.

The thing about the corporation is actually Money Laundering (well in Franklin's case yes because he did it with drug money) but opening a corporation to send all your assets through is a tax loophole. You can get paid through that, spend your money through that, and write off everything as a business expense. Also lowers your tax rate. (this is not 100% but its the general idea, gets a little deeper than that.)
