Young, innocent and in love on an idyllic island, Johnny (Donahue) and Molly (Dee) face the anger and guilt unleashed by the dissolution of their parents' relationships after Molly's father (Richard Egan) rekindles an affair he had with Johnny's mother before either was married. Now, can young love survive as Johnny and Molly witness the enmity that has replaced the passion their parents once felt in this classic romance?

This is likely the only on film record of the LaPorte Mansion in Pacific Grove, both inside and out. It burned beyond repair 4 days ago, May 26, 2023. Thanks to "A Summer Place," we can still see it. This movie had a huge effect on us adolescent girls back in 1959.
Constance Ford was gorgeous here!!
The cross over from the 50s to the 60s.
What an great and interesting ensemble cast for this coming of age flic. The haunting melody, the selection of actors that play in depth characters, the story line, the drama, and the revelation with consequence. Ruggedly handsome Richard Egan, Spicy Sandra Dee, and frigid Constance Ford, who was a great actress and had a successful and long career on another world! Bravo!
And Dorothy McGuire with her dingy yellow teeth 😏
Something tells me that Arthur Kennedy wanted to go skinny dipping with Constance Ford!!!
This whole scene is ruined by Arthur Kennedy's and Constance Ford's underacting. The idea here is that Kennedy is supposed to be making fun of Ford's prudery and Ford is supposed to horr-i-fied and mort-i-fied. It could have been funny and powerful.
Mrs Jorgensen is completely frigid.
