The chemistry between them was palpable, leading to a whirlwind romance. In 1964, they took their relationship to the next level and exchanged vows, becoming husband and wife. The media and public were captivated by their glamorous union, which seemed to embody the essence of a Hollywood power couple. Unfortunately, their marriage was short-lived, lasting only a few months before the couple decided to part ways. The reasons for their divorce remain private, and while speculation abounds, the details of their separation have largely remained undisclosed. Both Pleshette and Donahue went on to have successful careers in the entertainment industry.
Pleshette, known for her distinct voice and versatile acting skills, appeared in numerous films, including Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" (1963), and became a household name through her iconic role as Emily Hartley on the television sitcom "The Bob Newhart Show" (1972-1978). Her talent and magnetic presence made her a beloved figure, earning her critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base. Similarly, Donahue established himself as a heartthrob and leading man, earning recognition for his roles in films such as "A Summer Place" (1959) and "Parrish" (1961). He also made notable appearances in popular television shows, including "Surfside 6" and "Hawaiian Eye."
Donahue's handsome looks and charm made him a teenage heartthrob, capturing the attention of audiences around the world. While their marriage may have ended, both Pleshette and Donahue left lasting legacies in the entertainment industry. Their individual talents and contributions to film and television continue to be celebrated. Despite the brevity of their union, their impact as actors and their enduring appeal have solidified their places in Hollywood history.
In the end, Suzanne Pleshette and Troy Donahue's relationship and marriage remain a captivating moment in the annals of Hollywood. Though their personal journey together was short-lived, their individual achievements and lasting legacies as talented actors continue to inspire and entertain audiences to this day. That's Connie Stevens in the early part of the video, when the narrator mentions Sandra Dee. Later on we do see Dee, but then (after "If true,...") it's Joey Heatherton onscreen while there's still talk about Dee.
Surfside Six was NOT a soap opera, as stated, but a detective TV series along the lines of 77 Sunset Strip and Hawaiian Eye (all WB productions, incidentally, and all successful internationally in the early 60s).

I remember having such a huge crush on Troy Donahue as a young girl. He was so handsome and Syzanne Pleshette was so beautiful, and I absolutely loved the movie Rome Adventure. I'm 73 and to me those were the days of a glamorous Hollywood with Annette Funicello, Frankie Avalon and their beach movies and Where the Boys Are with Grace Kelly and George Hamilton, who I also had a major crush on back then. Those indeed were the "good old days"❤

@@1019q No, I'm not kidding. During our conversation on the plane, he told me that he was returning from a trip in my home town to see his daughter, Janine. She had just had a baby. Troy started up the conversation as I didn't want to invade his privacy. At the time I was about 48 and he was 10 years older than I. I wanted his autograph, of course, being a huge fan of his in the 1960s, and he signed my ticket envelope, "Kathryn, I thought you'd never ask. Troy Donahue." I still have it. Then when the plane landed, he walked with me to the luggage area, even though he only had a carry-on bag. He also walked me to my shuttle at the curb. What a gentleman! Who was I having dinner with that I couldn't cancel? Another celebrity appearing at a convention I was attending. He flew in from Liverpool and I just couldn't disappoint him by standing him up.

It's a shame when any marriage ends, but it's even worse when it ends so quickly. At least Susan Pleshett's 3 marriages except for the one with Troy Donahue lasted for years.
Unlike Troy Donahue's four marriages that the longest one lasted only three years. He's one of those guys that basically should never gotten married he didn't know what he wanted.
Susan Pleshett was a much better actor than Troy Donahue, her career lasted decades. I remember her from the comedy show
Good Morning, Miami. I also remember one of her last appearances was as the grand marshall for the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade.🙂
A wonderful actress with a wonderful reputation.

This is going way back, but I recall Suzanne relating her experience, on a television talk show (it might have been Merv Griffin's) that when she was the subject of the "This is Your Life" show (early 1970's) the ONLY thing she thought was: "If they bring in Troy Donahue, I am walking out!" It was incredibly funny and, of course, she got a huge audience laugh. She said nothing more (on this show) about Troy after this. Of course people wondered why she said this. P.S. Tom Poston's last name is pronounced as if to say, POST -Ton (not as it is said here - "Posst-ton") He appeared on many television game shows in the 1960's-70's - including "To Tell the Truth" and "What's my Line?" You can see some of these shows out here on TH-cam and hear him being introduced to the audience.

I read the reason why Suzanne Pleshette divorced Troy Donahue who she married because he was "unreliable" and not committed to their marriage. He seemed to think about himself than to consider their marriage. Once she saw his patterned, she divorced him. I really can't blame her since she wanted a good marriage. I was glad she married again and this time it was worth it.

I got to meet and do some work for Suzanne Pleshette. She was just as beautiful in person as she was on the screen, big or small. She was very intelligent and had a great sense of humour. I told her that one of her films had aired on TV the night before, and she asked what it was and if the black and white contrast was good or not. She said she can't watch a black & white film unless the contrast is correct. Too light, no good. Too dark, no good. She was a professional and had been in the business a long time, and she knew what she liked, what she didn't like, and she knew what worked for her and what did not. She was tough. I was late meeting her one time and she wasn't pleased, but when I told her why, everything changed and she just wanted to know that I was okay. I was in a little fender bender.
The company I worked for moved to Beverly Hills and we had a party so clients could see the new location. She and her husband walked in and she made a B-line directly to me and kissed me on the mouth! I was stunned, but thrilled. It was Gay Pride that day and a huge parade going down Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood. Suzanne lived on Holloway, one street over from Santa Monica Blvd., and she and her husband were discussing how they would get home. Suzanne got an idea. I know! We can get a ride on a motorcycle with Dykes on Bikes and they can take us across the boulevard. Everyone laughed. I am certain they just took a round-a-bout way home.
She was a great actress. In Hollywood, she was known for a time as the poor man's Elizabeth Taylor.
