CLASSIC MOVIE REVIEW: Troy Donohue, Sandra Dee, Dorothy McGuire and Richard Egan find love on the coast of Maine in Delmar Dave’s A SUMMER PLACE (1959). Based on the novel by Sloan Wilson, it also stars Arthur Kennedy and Constance Ford as the impediments that stand in their way. With glorious scenery and a classic score by veteran Oscar winning composer Max Steiner, it’s the perfect, romantic, summer getaway.

Steve I went home with a friend who lived with his grandmother while we were in college. This movie came on that Saturday night, we were all ready to go out and started watching this. None of us could leave the tv! We all cried at the end with the line "We live in a Glass House...". Miss Lindsey is dead now but I will always remember that wonderful weekend and movie experience.

I've been waiting for this generation-gap classic to come out on Blu-ray about as patiently as Constance Ford does for Dee and Donahue to be located after their date-at-sea. Loved her as Ada - I wish there were episodes from the 60's and 70's to watch (though YT does have the episode where Steve Frame and Alice Matthews meet - Ada is there, too). Ms. Ford also starred in her own short-lived soap on CBS in 1954 - "Woman with a Past".

I'm not proud of this, but I always connect the love theme from this film with "Animal House" (it's used a lot to establish that early 1960's aura).
