When I first started looking at HD motorcycles, I was looking at the Street Glide and Road Glide. Both looked amazing but something about the look of the Road Glide kept my attention a bit more. Especially with the dual headlight. I test drove both and, like you said Tall, the way the Road Glide fairing looked from the rider's view did not sit right with me. I have a 2019 Street Glide now and I love it. Im keeping a buddies 2018 Road Glide for a bit so I get to take it out every once. I do not regret my Street Glide. I also have all my lights by Custom Dynamics. They make very good products.

  • @lavery0365
    @lavery0365 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

I'm somewhat biased because as you know I'm a 2019 RG Special owner and I just merely prefer the concept of the steering of the ROADGLIDE which seems to provide more space and freedom especially for the taller & bigger riders. I like that in my opinion it provides more wind protection, the standard 114 is a bonus and for this being my 6th bike but very first HD, I feel great, but let's remember ultimately, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE RIDE!!!

Can’t believe people ask this. It is personal preference. I’ve owned both over last 13 years over 90,000 miles collectively. It is simple: each & every rider needs to decide on their own what THEY prefer and then pull the trigger. Now for the more fortunate, maybe they have each model!

Laying down 23k to 45k is a big decision. I would ask anyone that has ridden one or owned one to get their opinion. Trying to find someone who is non-bias would be the hard part. At the end of the day its ultimately your decision. Thanks for the comment.

I went from an Ultra Limited to a Road Glide Limited and wouldn’t go back. I love the extra room I get between me and the fairing. The inner fairing definitely grew on me. I also like how the fixed fairing feels lighter in the front end on slow maneuvers. Keep up the great videos! Heading to the Smokies Saturday so I’ll be up that way. Be safe!

When I owned my 2020 SG, I experienced wind buffeting to the point where I would get blurred vision and headaches after a short ride. There is some resistance and vibration felt through the handlebars from the bat fairing that I didn't like. Also, here in the California bay area, winds get pretty high... 20mph on average. I tried multiple helmets which also didn't cure the buffeting issue. My HD dealership accepted the bike back with 300 miles on it and sold me a 2020 Road Glide. The RG should've been my 1st choice from the start. I ride year round and 25+mph winds are not an issue. The wind buffeting is gone and, the wind protection from that massive front fairing is second to none.

Another great video from you. Many thanks
I was definitely going to buy a Harley in 2000. I loved the lines of the wide glide.
A friend said, "If you plan to ride a lot, get a Road King". (roadglide and street glide did exist back then).
I bought the wide glide and soon learned for long distance running I should have bought the road king. LOL.
But I'm a stubborn, dedicated man. When I commit to something, I stick with it.
I was determined to see that Harley turn over 100,000 miles so I kept it. I gradually began adding things that would have come with a road king because on a 8-12 hour trip, a guy needs a bit of comfort or you get so worn out, you don't enjoy the ride. Big saddlebags, big windshield, extra footpegs, Foot and hand grips with thick rubber padding from Kuryakn. A 12volt outlet so I can plug in my phone or electric suit if it gets nasty cold. I soon learned 50 degrees with rain will suck the life out of you.
Some folks say I cluttered the bike and ruined the lines. Well, I guarantee they won't last 8 hours on a run with me. The bike has 88,520 miles now so I'm sure in two years, she will turn the 100,000 mark. I use Amsoil and change every 5,000 miles. I'm hoping she will go the distance without any major repairs. I plan to do a compression check on Sunday to see how things are inside. That would be a serious brag, 100,000 miles without a top end rebuild.
I'll be prepping her for winter storage. Southern WI is not biker friendly once November rolls around. I put it on a bike lift, roll it into a corner of the garage, hook up the battery tender and cover her up for the winter hibernation. April cannot come soon enough.
This summer I swapped both tires for the new American elites and I am IMPRESSED with those. Excellent handling, love the way they lean in so smooth for curves and for tight turns in town. Really good traction.

Agree about the blowing minor differences all out of proportion. After all, we're talking about nearly 900 lbs of bike either way. Not much is going to move them, and not very much if/when it does. I've ridden both and I prefer the Road Glide. I like the looks of both. However, I'm only 5' 9". On the Street Glide the fairing and dash seemed to be right in my face - almost felt claustrophobic - on a motorcycle! I liked that the Road Glide fairing seemed lower and further away. Can't go wrong either way!

Street Glide vs Road Glide? There is no one answer. I went from a 2004 Road King Custom to a 2016 Road Glide Special after an accident totaled my beloved Road King. No regrets with the decision but I did hem and haw for a while on Street Glide vs Road Glide. Each person should try both and make their own decision as both are the ultimate in touring greatness! Keep up the great content!

Great videos Tall. My last bike was an Ultra Classic Electraglide and my current bike is a Road Glide Ultra. I agree that although you may “feel” a little more wind buffeting the batwing fairing on the highway, it doesn’t really make a difference. Same in the twisties. I rode my friends street glide yesterday and noticed 2 of the biggest functional differences in my opinion. The speedo and tach placement on the batwing allow faster checks. This was apparent to me riding through congested towns with constantly changing speed limits. The other is reach to the radio. I’m 5’9” with kinda short arms and I really have to lean if I want to touch the radio on my road glide. The batwing is much easier to each.

It really comes down to what makes you happy!! I absolutely love my 2017 RGS! I picked the Road Glide over the street glide because I am 6'6" and the street glide made me feel cramped. The Road Glide fairing is back further and gives the impression that you have a lot more room. I love how my Road Glide cuts through the wind. I have heard that at highway speeds the batwing fairing puts more pressure on your hands and arms because the wind is putting all that pressure against you(Do not know how true this is-It is just something some riders have mentioned) where this never happens with the Shark fairing. I am very happy with my Road Glide and you are very happy with your street glide! It's ALL good! Ride smart & ride safe brother!

I actually bought a street glide special on the sole grounds that I hate the way the road glide front fairing looks. I think it looks hideous. I'm a little jealous at the low speed handling of the road glide, but I still think the street glide is better.

I do have a fan behind d my oil cooler and lo e jugs on the bike.. runs super cool.. end it as I live in mesa arizona. And ride all year long .Never an issue with the wind or big trucks. I completely agree with you on that inner fairing thing man. I got a 2020 SGS and the inner fairing was the better of the two. I also really like the bars being closer to the fairing vs the road glide it makes the street glide look cleaner imo. Road glide looks amazing from every other angle too especially on air and a center stand but he rider view is important

  • @gghostrrider
    @gghostrrider 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Two things folks seem to overlook in differences between RG and SG are 1) the distance difference from rider to fairing can affect the rider pocket of air. Windshields can change the area of the pocket, but the distance is a factor in handling feel and makes me feel like the fairing is right in my face fairing distance also may factor into weather/wind protection IMO. 2) I think the wind hitting the fairing of a SG gives more feedback in curves ( like a sports car)while the RG turn in is lighter ( like a luxury car) by comparison.Bonus: the cubbies in the RG are 1M times better than those mail slots in the SG fairing!

I was torn at time of purchase really! Love em both evenly, the dual headlight look "for lighting and safety", and freeway handling was the decider really. I have the '18 RGS and love the fact that you can open and close th 3 vents, 1 on top and two side vents by the headlights. I rented them both several times before deciding. I also felt like I was in the RG vs being on the Street glide, seemed to the big difference only because of the way the fairing is situated. Both great bikes!! Great video as always!!

I agree 100% about the rider perspective look. I love the Road Glide from the front (especially with the Mean Mug!) but I do not like the way it looks from the rider perspective. I love the way the Street Glide looks from the front (although I do like the front of the Road Glide better), but mostly the dash that I can see the whole time I'm riding. Utimately it still just comes down to personal preference. Appreciate the video.

Very methodical "A" vs "B" and all the pros and cons!
I have a 2014 Fat Bob and may one day upgrade...But I noticed that you did an Indian Challenger review too.
My first HD was back in 1979 when I bought my (then) dream bike which was a 1974 HD Super Glide FXE, kick starter and electric!
I actually wanted a 1976 bicentennial ltd edition or even a 1977 Super Glide FX since I was in the Navy then and my buddy had one and bought it through the Navy Exchange.
Either way, I was happy with my Super Glide. My friend back in 1975 had a 1975 Super Glide which was when I first fell in love Harley Davidson!
My friends all had dirt bikes and nobody I knew had HD's back then.
All I ever wanted since 1975 an HD Super Glide, that's it!
So let's see if I go Indian or HD the next go around.

Good video. Go down sit on each bike or ride each bike. Pick the one that fits you the best and the one you like the best. Figure in what mods you want and which one will fit your mods the best. Then buy the one that YOU like. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks, because at the end of the day you are the one paying for it and you are the one riding it. If someone else tells you that you bought the wrong bike just tell them that they can complain when they pay for your bike.

To me the best difference between the fork mounted fairing and the frame mounted fairing is the better low speed maneuverability of the frame mounted fairing. I also have a hard time getting comfortable on a batwing bike. I feel like I'm sitting on the bike whereas on a RG I feel like I'm sitting in the bike. The downside of the RG to me, if retaining the stock HD sound system, is that, with a helmet on at least, I can't hear the music at freeway speeds. I think this has a lot to do with the speaker location. On a batwing bike the speakers are that much closer to you and are closer together.

The downforce of the wind on the batwing fairing keeps that bike solid to the ground when travelling highway speed, and this is solidly felt in the handlebars. I can keep a much better line on a Street Glide at 80MPH than a Road Glide. The Road Glide is a bit too nimble IMO, and nimble is not what I need on the highway. I ride my friends RG every now and then to compare. I just rode 5K across the country in high wind, rain, 18 wheeler heaven, and the SG is a solid performer. I own several Harley's, I'm speaking from real experience on these bikes.

Both are great bikes. I currently have a 2017 SGS with HD 128 Big Bore Stage Kit with Legend suspension all around and going to keep it. My next bike will be a Honda CB500X for adventure, country, dirt road riding then I will probably get a new Road Glide Limited with a Stage 2 torque cam. Warranty and extended service plan is important to me so I will run all manufacture's parts. I personally like the Road Glide for long highway, interstate travel. Now you can always get a new Street or Road Glide standard, put the HD 128 kit plus using HD Pro and Smart tuners on it and be covered for the 2 year warranty and then the extended service plan years out all the way up to 12 (take out first five years, then renew before it run out for another five). Anything goes wrong that's not owners fault, $50 deductible and it gets fixed. BTW: Harley 128/131 Big Bore kits running very close dyno numbers to not tell a difference.

Awesome video. This was helpful and yesterday picked up my 2021 Street Glide. I rented road glide and street glide multiple times and the deciding factor for me was the layout off the controls on the street glide! Thanks you for making these videos.

I have had both currently on an 18 RGS. I agree with most of your statements but the RG handles better and is better in hot weather but the batwing is better in the rain and cold weather. The road glide is better in a headwind but sidewind is the same. It comes down to personal preference. Both are great bikes but with that said, I will have a rg from here on out it just grows on you lol

Glad to see you back on that beautiful Harley. I also test rode a Road Glide because I liked the look. That one ride pushed me right over to an Ultra Classic. Been a great bike. Stay safe and keep laying down the miles.

I bought a used 2016 two months ago, liked the dash setup, not much difference elsewhere, fits good , saddleman extended reach seat, Klockworks shield and highway pegs so far. 6' 3" Tall winter hit need to ride to figure customizations. Stock power is good for now

I've got a 2014 Firefighter Shrine Street glide . Black it looks like yours. I'm 5 /7 and I like the feel of the weight on the bars with the Bat Wing fairing . I personally feel.more in control and can see what's up front better . The Bat Wing is.also.iconic. Now I understand the Road Glide is favored by clubs mainly because.of ease of turning the bars in high winds ( less fatiguing) on long rides . Also there is more room on Road Glides for people 6ft and over. The Road Glide fairing is more like a car dashboard for me it's too far away. It's horses for courses but I would suggest for a tall person to go for the Road Glide because they won't feel as cramped as they possibly would do on the street glide.

Only difference I can tell is Road Glide handles better. Most people I hear say is they don't like the look of the fairing. I've had 2 Street Glide Special 2015 models. I loved em! I wanted to try the Road Glide so that's what I have now. And I love it as well! It's a personal choice for me. Just Glide! U ain't Ridin if U ain't Gliden

Love your videos. I haven’t been on either one. In fact the only bike I have been on is an 08 Road King so I can’t relate to the whole fairing thing. I am a late bloomer, bought the RK last year at the age of 61 right after taking the MSF class. Love it so far. Big heavy bike for a 5’7’ 175lb old man but I am handling it just fine now. Still feel like I need to be able to see whats right in front of me so windscreen is perfect. Maybe one day I will have a SG since I do like the looks better than a RG. Meanwhile I’ll keep watching guys like you on youtube where I have learned so much in just a year.

Don't kid yourself my RGS will shake a little under the right circumstance as well. I chose the RG because I have long legs and there is more leg room on the RG over the SG. The RGS is my long distance touring bike so comfort at all levels was the thinking process. Some SG owners say they don't want the touch screen so far out there and that it's way too hard to reach, well I don't ever touch the screen and have learned to use the joy sticks on the handle bars to control everything that you could touch you can do with the joy sticks so that is a moot point. I say just ride what you like and don't fret about what anybody thinks. I have had a few riders say to me that the fairing is way ugly, I just say back to them "well I didn't buy it for you." I've seen plenty of riders on old clapped out machines that smoke, leak, and are covered in grime with a smile from ear to ear. We all have a reason for riding what we ride and it sure would be a boring world if we all rode the same bike. I also have a Road king and a Softail Heritage and between the three bikes the Road king is hands down the most fun bike to ride in my stable.

I like your review as I did one back in 2018, I too was trying to decide on which bike to buy as I was trading in my 17 RK. I’m glad you said it’s what you prefer as the wind thing really had nothing to do on how you feel when you sit on one and ride it. Each person has a different feel so for folks that are 6 foot or taller, they tend to want the RG over the SG. I personally like the fact I can see over my RG faring as I am 6-1 and put a Mustang super touring seat to move me back two inches and it’s perfect for me. So good job!!!

I've owned both RG and SG. I currently have a SG Ultra CVO (I love my trunk space) HOWEVER the Road Glide is the best Glide. I've ridden cross country on both, there was a difference in my fatigue from wind vibrations on the batwing that I didn't experience on a RG. At the end of it, be safe and enjoy the ride.

There is a minimal difference in my opinion. But millions of motorcycles from other brands have had fixed fairings over the years. It really doesn't matter to me what others like/ride. Ride what you like👍🏾. #THATISALL

I came off of a Ultra Limited. Then I have bought a 18 Road Glide. I used to get head buffeting on my batwing. But my Road Glide, I actually get none of that. I see you have no problem with that. That's why I turned to the "dark side" haha. Plus, I think it's a much better ride. Ride safe man!!

I have owned 3 street glides. I now own a '19 RGS. The biggest difference is high winds. The RG does handle much better in higher winds and get more mileage. It does provide more light at night due to the dual headlights. Outside of the fairing difference there is nothing different between the bikes.

Having just purchased a Road Glide, and still having my Electra Glide, I can confirm that not having the fairing weight makes a big difference when it comes to cornering. I never felt like I fought the bat wing fairing in the past until I started riding a Road Glide. All in all, both are very good looking machines. Thanks for the videos...keep em coming!

If you get the Custom Auxiliary Lighting Kit then you'll have 3 lights up front! That's one extra than the Road Glide! I don't like the open spaces in the middle of the Road Glide fairing. You can see all the way down the forks.

Personally speaking, I like the “roominess” feeling of the road glide vs the street glide. The challenger seems claustrophobic to me as well, so much going on right there.

I test road both and ended up with the Road Glide because of the gauge cluster. Street glide just seem like the gauge cluster was right up on me and had to tilt my head down to see the top part.

  • @jimbeam4111

I went with the road glide. I had a street glide and an ultra. Never noticed any “head shake” with either of those motorcycles. The one thing that I do notice is the road glide handles better at slow speeds. Like in a parking lot. The front end feels light. I got the 2019 special. Doing it again, I would just go with the standard one. The 114 and blacked out hardware isn’t worth the premium. I would take that extra money and put it into performance modifications.

I hear you man no regrets either, I have 2010 street glide with 98 cc I have done some upgrade to the bike to make it mine own. One day I will do a stage 1 change the air intake and slip-on and maybe put small ape hangers and some more custom dynamic lights so I could be seen. Keep what you are doing and hopefully we meet up on the road. Stay safe brother!
