The windshield is from Klock Werks. The only thing I never got used to on my Road King was the late engagement of the hydraulic clutch, supposedly it has been changed in the newer bikes. Remember they make bag inserts for the touring bikes so you can just pull them out and go.
I was in the same situation, 160 mile round trip for work. I traded my Fat Bob in on a 2019 RKS and detachable windshield for the same reasons you spoke of...modularity. Can remove the windshield in seconds, and it’s the lightest touring Harley, so it’s still fun for cruising.
Blockhead no matter which bike you ride you will still be Blockhead, for cost wise the Street Guide is better, even an E.G. Standard has everything fairing and bags and cruise control just without the radio for 18900 but for a bike out the door with it all than the Street Guide is the way to go.the Fat bob is just a baby FXDR and would not be a good traveling bike and you would still be wishing for more storage.I have a Lowrider with fairing installed and hard bags with sissy bar for bag I commute about 70 miles around trip to my job at the Ambulance service and ride it every day even in the winter time and still wishing I went with a street guide instead of building the lowrider now looking close at the electric Guide standard and installing a sound system in it myself because of it's low cost. But go with the street Guide that's my two cents.
The sport glide seems like the PERFECT bike for you!! It’s got the bags for a backpack that you can detach for that stripped back style you love. Also: Your videos are fantastic. I’m sixteen and cannot wait to get a Harley one day. Love from UK 🇬🇧🇺🇸
I have a 2018 fat bob 107 and I rode it 124 miles roundtrip(62 and 62). Its stock but i have put almost 18,000 miles on it. It was brand new when I bought it and I live in LA. Traffic capital. It does the job easily. With the upgrades you would do to it if you bought one and it being the 114 your looking at. I'd say go with it. I wouldnt trade mine. But I would add a fairing for the wind.
I was going to build up my Heritage to more touring, but ended up getting the Street Glide. I also felt the Road Glide felt bulky and not as "every day" as the Street Glide. I went with the Freedom Shields windshield, they are less expensive, very thick and sturdy, made here in America, and also let you try it out for a while to make sure it is what you want. I also went with 10" bars to put my arms level with my shoulders, and changed out the rear shocks with the SuperShox (one of my best upgrades). I put Harley's premium ride cartridges in the front, but I'll be switching those out. They aren't as good as others they compete against. I should have known better to begin with. For reference, mine is a 2014 FLHXS I bought new. I've only got about 32k miles on it now unfortunately as I haven't been able to ride much the last couple years. Hopefully that'll change soon.
Long ride shields makes a windshield with the lip on top. I believe Memphis shade and harley has a version too. I had a road king built out like a street glide with a ferring. Still had some buffeting. I have a 19 road glide and dont feel all the buffetting.
I had the Street Glide and you need at least a 10" handlebar to be comfortable. Now I would buy the new Heritage. Music in my helmet and better handling, suspension and price for the bike.
Yes, get one. You will be very happy. You’ll enjoy the front fairing blocking the wind, the saddlebags to carry a lot of stuff, navigation system, stereo, iPod connectivity, long distance riding capable, the sound, the cool factor, reliability, fun to ride, take someone with you…….
I mean blockhead I had an FXDR and traded it in for a street glide. I love the street glide personally it’s so much better for long distance rides and just rides in general. Bought it like 3 weeks ago already have 1k miles on my street glide. But man you do you. In my personal opinion I like the looks of the street glide better over the road glide.
I like the road glide I just bought a 19 road glide and I went with it over the street glide because I didn’t feel claustrophobic on it like I did on the street glide and I’m a shorter guy and it has storage on the fairing also
I bought that same bike about 5 months ago. I now have 6000 miles on it and I absolutely love it.With that being said ,I have had bolth oil sumping issues and transmission fluid transfer issues .Harley Davidson has made little to no effort to fix issues.
I bought the Electra Glide Standard. Dealer referred to it as a Street glide standard. It has cruise, but the 107 and lacks the electronics such as nav and radio, which I wouldn't use anyway. It was about $5k less.
I have a 19 softail streetbob, I do a lot of long rides with my buddies. I’m in the same boat the streetbob isn’t so great for 3 hours on the highway at 80 mph. Next year I’m onto a street glide or road glide, I like the look of the stripped down softail, but if you’re going distance why not be the most comfortable you can be
I'm a streetglide/ batwing of the Rushmore styles. The maneuvering seems more fluid than on a newer RGs, just me. Either way you go they are built for distance, and also in town shitn' gitin' . I use both my FLHC and SGS as my daily commuters, so I understand your delima in fun but function.
It really depends on how far you wanna go at any given time. Ms. Blockhead rides her own, so it’s lot a matter of “is it comfy for both of y’all”. That was the issue for myself and my wife. We’re up in Tallahassee. We had a Dyna and found that anything longer than about an hour was not comfortable for her. But with our 2013 streetglide and the seat from an Ultra, we can go as far as we want. I miss the speed and attitude of my Dyna, but I love the “”Big Boy Bike” feeling of my streetglide. The step up is worth it. I did 1200 miles the same week I bought it, and it was fantastic
Hmm, I dunno man. I'm not convinced that you really want either of the Glides. I know you want to keep the low, streamlined look, but that will be tough to do with any type large fairing and bags. Although, I think the Road Glide has more of an aerodynamic look to it than the Street. My personal vote is to build out a Softail. You can pull the bags on and off as you like. Get a decent sized fairing, but not something yuge. Plus you can put more of a personalized touch to it, whereas the Glides will always look like... Glides. Always interested to see what you do with the bikes, man. Just remember why you ride. Because it's fun! Make sure you get a bike that you'll have fun with. 👍 Good luck, brother!
Love the look of the street glide but I like high screen protection too and the Street Glide screen is a lot lower than the one on my Heritage Classic. A step forwards in some ways but more wind blast perhaps.
Sounds like the road king is the perfect bike for you man. Sounds like u don’t really want the tour feel but u need the storage. Road king is the bike.
I’d go for the Street Glide. I ride a BMW R1200R that I have as a modular. When it is in its commuting or touring form, it is probably 90% as good as an RT. But BMW put a lot of R&D into the RT to do what it does well. If your application is modular, go softail. If your application is mileage cruncher, go Street Glide.
I'd go with what you like the look of the best, I have 37k miles on my 17 street glide and distance isn't a problem. Set cruise on 85 and haul ass, sit side saddle and one handed at times to stretch etc, put a seat (I put a mustang super deluxe and love it) and highway pegs on it if you need more comfort for distance. Again I'd go with what you like the look of the best.
I rode a road king from Pittsburgh to Toronto and it’s the best bike I’ve ever been on. I’m not crazy about the look of it but it rides and feels awesome.
Take the sportster drop a 1200 /1250 kit, forward foot controls, 30T trans pulley, cushy seat, removable hard bags, tour pack kit, and windshield, maybe some new suspension and ride that all day long but that's just me. I want to do that to a 48 (obviously dont need the 1200 kit) and get a 4.1 gal fuel tank. With most of the stuff removable you would just be making the sporty more fun to ride???
Bring all the things you mention to the dealership and try the fit in the bags. You would be surprised how fast those bags fill up. I feel like the Road King Special is more what you are looking for.
The "glove box(s)" on the Road Glide are superior. If you have a modern phone (iPhone XR), it will NOT fit in the too small area on the Street Glide, making a mount or other type of thing necessary. I have a Street Glide, but with I went the other way. The wind "buffetting" is a non issue for me, but sooooooo many SG's out there.
Sport glide. I think it’s what your looking for. But Road Glide over Street Glide. I used to own a 2015 Street Glide, I missed the wind and “rumble” and went to a Dayna Street bob and loved it.
For long runs street glide is super duper. I live in London England 🏴. I have 2019 softail slim with harleydavidson tall Handlebars with sundowner seat works well for me on narrow London streets for commuting and filtering. Good luck with your new purchase.👍
You can't become a bagger bro without test riding a Goldwing at least once so you know what you're missing. While you're off the HD plantation, check out a Valkyrie too.
Street glide probably better for your style as I kept getting the feeling the road glide size of fairing made you think the bike was too big and doesn’t fit your style. I had an old road king and you need to try a standard road king and it is just as comfortable as the others
I think you should try one of the softails so you can remove the bags and fairing as needed. That way you can ride around town and still be able to commit to those long rides to work with your gear.
Hi Blockhead, I have owned two Street Glides and am going to get another one. Been riding a Street Glide since 2006 when they first came out. I traded in my Road King and Night Train on one and have never gone back. It’s a great bike for touring and it looks good! Definitely turn around and look at my bike all the time! Enjoy your discovery stage!!
The Fat Bob is a really cool bike and is in my top two if I were to be looking at picking up a softail, but it doesn’t seem like it would be a great fit for the riding you are describing. It only has a 3.6 gallon tank, so every trip you would be hitting up the fill up joint.
My first Harley was a Nightster which I rode four years then Iooked to upgrade Spring of 2019. I liked street glide from past years, then the sport glide came out and I liked the looks. I was really on the fence about the sport glide and street glide. In May I bought a lightly used sportglide during Myrtle Beach spring rally. I rode it about 3000 miles, which included and 1100 mile rode trip to the Tail of the dragon with my wife. Though the trip went very well and we had a blast, the sportglide still wasn't what I really wanted. I decided to trade in on a new 19 Street glide special in barracuda silver ! So glad I did move up to a touring bike. It's so accommodating, smooth, powerful and requires less effort to ride highway speed. My commutes are more enjoyable and easier even. I rode several rode glides at the demo truck and I really prefer the street glide. Overall the SG will keep you happy and comfy on your long commutes. Its money well spent !! Great videos Blockhead, keep up the good work ! 🤘
I had a street glide and loved it. Now I have an ultra and love it a “little “ more. I think you will enjoy it but, I feel like we all know you won’t keep anything too long.
A good in between might be a road king or heritage. I have an 06 heritage softail. I love ripping around but i ride it to work which is 50 miles one way. Either choice you go with i highly recommend a d&d exhaust!
On the windshield: test the Harley Windsplitter version with the 1” higher size than the standard SG windshield. I ride it comfortably at Highway speeds.
You need to try a road king special then make.your pick. I have 05 RK custom I've put 6k on it this year since march and I love it long and short distances. Detachable windshield and sissy bar luggage rack plenty of storage..
I’ve ridden both the streetglide and the roadglide. I tend to ride longer distance, and the Roadglide is the best. I purchased a Ultra model, and now have plenty of room for anything needed.
I like the look of the older eletra glide standard but I also like the wind hitting me when riding around town so I've been thinking of doing a Road King and a Memphis shade detachable faring
I would go with a road glide if I was in your shoes, but since you sound like you're not quite ready for the full bagger experience I vote road king or heritage classic. Both are fairing-less, but you could pretty easily add a fairing or windshield to either. Both can easily add a tour pack if you need more storage space. They both have saddlebags, but the HC you can take em off and not look like something is missing
@BLOCKHEAD I am an owner of a Fatbob FXFBS 114. Though I have done 400 mile days on it, I would not do it regularly. Even with a fairing. I love the power and the way it handles, for a Harley, but I am in the same boat that you are in. If I were to stay in the Harley family of bikes, I would lean toward the Roadglide. The steering is just lighter to me and I like the wind protection better. I also like the storage spaces in the fixed fairing as well. I got a chance to rent one on a recent business trip and did 700 miles on it. If I get one, the only thing I would have them do is bump up the rear shock preload!! Other than that, I was pretty satisfied with it. Right now, along with the Harley FXFBS, I own a 2008 Concours C14 and a 2007 VFR800. Both are setup for supersport touring. I have done iron-butt days on my Concours and 600 miles days on my VFR. Both are comfortable, fun and can work nicely as daily riders. But just not in the same way as the Harley. Kind of like the difference between a Benz/BMW and Cadillac.
So I had a 2017 road glide special, I traded it for a pro street breakout and never looked back. I did a euro tour through France, Germany, Austria, Slovenia and Italy on a 2019 street glide special. My experience, my opinion, this bike is just f antastic, heavier (slightly) than a road glide but ultimately more rideable, it doesn’t need upgrades it’s fine as it, anything else is just vanity imho. I had this bike up over 10,000ft through the hairpin mountain roads and it handles just beautifully, I’m use to pushing my breakout through corners but the SG is so light steering wise in comparison. I put close to 5000 clicks on this bike and I was sad to hand it back. 114 M8 is just phenomenal.
I rode 100 to 130 miles a week from home to work. Depending on job requirements. After a long day at the office, I would sometimes be in a predicament of doing a few small errands. Just wanted to let you I understand your situation. I bought an Ultra Classic for the same reason. Never regretted it, it fit my needs, and is functional too. Bonus was the trunk, it came in handy for those errands after work. On longer distances never a problem, but mine did come with the stock clear windshield which provided better protection. You mentioned Memphis Shades...I will look into them, but I don't want it lower than my stock shield. So, from my point of view and since your already leaning toward the Street Glide...buy the bike. Overall whatever makes you happy, and can fit your current needs, or possible future needs too. Take care and look forward to seeing your new ride.
At the end of the day, you gotta do what you think is best for you block. Some things have to grow on you before you can fully appreciate them. I would go with a road glide personally. It's a sound decision with a lot of pros and virtually no cons aside from partin ways with the FXDR.
Do it !! A week and a half ago, I traded my 2016 Fat Bob and 2016 Ducati Monster 1200R for a 2019 Street Glide Special in the exact same color that you're testing. I don't regret it for a second. The bike is amazing !!
I absolutely love my Street Glide. Mine has the Tour Pak added for extra storage which is really nice. For less buffeting I picked up a Clearview Shield recurve. It's got that lip you're talking about and it was night and day different. At high enough speeds I do occasionally get buffeting from the wind reflected off my legs, though it's not nearly as bad since changing windshields.
As a minimalist, I’m really surprised you’re not trying Road King Special 114 with a nice Memphis shades wind screen. Add a stage 3 kit and Blockhead gold touches.
i would recommend the street glide. Just did 600 miles each way to Vegas Bike week on my 2018. I have tried the road glide and prefer the street glide. I also rode my road king out from Austin TX to Sacramento CA and I really love having the stereo/infotainment system vs head phones. in my humble opinion all the baggers are a good choice for long trips/commuting but again my preference is the street glide ( for handling over the road glide ). And I want to say you are thinking of the Klock Works windshield.
Next time you try a bike in that area , you should take alafaya passed curry Ford, and go to innovation way. That road is really nice to test out curves and not so much traffic.
I do a long commute and I love the Road Glide Special that I recently got after trading in my Fat Boy. I can still get around town easily but the commute is so comfortable it actually has become enjoyable trip to and from work. Have fun test riding and I'm sure you will find the bike that fits your needs. Be safe my friend. Enjoy your vlog.
It sounds like what you want is either a sport glide or heritage. I felt the same about the sport glide before I took it out for a ride and fell head over heels for it. There’s so much you can do to that bike.
Low Rider S with bags and a good Memphis Shades fairing. You know you like that bike and fixed up it would serve your multi-mission mission! Follow the heart bro!
I dressed my 19 Deluxe to look like a Heritage - Bags, Glass, Cruise Control, Engine Guards - since I liked the chrome and whitewalls. It's good on the highways, but a bit of buffeting. HOWEVER, at this point, I've probably spent the same dollars (if not more) then the Heritage. So, get what you CAN'T change later and then add what you want/need. It's sounding like you're really between the Road Glide and Street Glide - so which faring do you like?
I just sold FXR and bought street glide. Only to relieve my back. Miss the hotrod of FXR, but am in love with being able to ride more than 60 miles without the excruciation 🤷🏻♂️

I have a 2016 street glide. Installed V stream 7.5" windshield. Helps a lot with wind buffeting.
I went from a 48 to SGS. The only thing I don’t like about the SG is the buffeting. Haven’t quite solved it yet but a taller screen has helped
Yes get the FAT BOB, if ur not 100% committed to a bagger, build the fat bob for what u need. I ride my Fat bob to work every day and I love it
Have you put any kind of a fairing or shield on your f bob?
I had the Street Glide and you need at least a 10" handlebar to be comfortable.
Now I would buy the new Heritage. Music in my helmet and better handling, suspension and price for the bike.
Went from a 10 dyna wide glide to a street glide and love my street glide
Yes, get one. You will be very happy. You’ll enjoy the front fairing blocking the wind, the saddlebags to carry a lot of stuff, navigation system, stereo,
iPod connectivity, long distance riding capable, the sound, the cool factor, reliability, fun to ride, take someone with you…….
That SGS looks really good, I am personally a big fan of that denim color on the SGS.
for not much more (SG or RG), look at Ultra/Limited versions. Extra storage with Tour Pack and cooled heads = bump in compression.
I would go 4 a streetglide, but i would change the bars and some other stuff
I did
I have a 19 softail streetbob, I do a lot of long rides with my buddies.
I love my FLHXS. The faring etc. doesn't affect handling at all for me plus the stance to me just looks better than a road glide.
Road king! A bit lighter and still got the bags. Removable windshield.
Good luck, brother!
Get whatever makes you comfortable! I’d pick the road glide myself but it’s all about what make you happy and comfortable
Also 12 inch bar install is pretty easy to do. Will make a huge difference in comfort
I bought the 2019 Street Glide Special last year and I absofreakinlutely Love. It handles in any situation. I have the Orange and Black one.
I still recommend that you try out a roadking
True I believe ferring is nice vrs just windshield
I rode a road king from Pittsburgh to Toronto and it’s the best bike I’ve ever been on. I’m not crazy about the look of it but it rides and feels awesome.
@@joseb7210 the comfort of the rider is important. I agree I don't like the big honking windshield. I like the look of a fearing
He did tri the to asking I did to. And the street glide was a lot better.
klock werks windshields is who makes the curved at the top windshield and it will work with Memphis shades and all brand fairings etc.
I would buy the Street Glide. I'd also strongly consider moving closer to work if I was in your position and keeping the bike you have.
Difficult because he just bought a house.
build out a softail, it's what I did and don't regret it at all. Fatbob with the fairing and sissybar does get a lot of strange looks though.
I have a wide glide now. I love it. Only problem is, I hate the wind constantly beating me up. I am thinking moving up to a street glide.
Maybe look at the Heritage Classic if you're wanting a softail. It's got the higher bars, the 114, and some bags. That bike looks really nice.
Love my 2019 Street Glide Special!
Me too!
Get whatever you enjoy riding the most. I have a 114SGS and it suits my riding style. I love the bike.
Heritage with the 114
Rode my 2018 with the 114 400 miles. When I was done I felt I could do another 400. It's a sweet ride for sure.
As long as its not a god damn black street glide!!!!! Literally makes up 60%-70% of Harley’s on the road.
Andrew GERVAIS lol
Sounds like what your really looking for is all in the Heritage, more basic and still comfy for the long drive. Great channel man!
i would recommend the street glide.
Had a soft tail fat bob and it was nice just wasn’t that great for distance. Now I have a road glide and feel like I can go anywhere
