Test ride a Road king I have one and believe it's more middle of the road and still has that touring comfort plus a quick detach windshield and luggage rack. You won't be disappointed.
Terry Hoats I agree with this. RK or RKS kind of gives a soft tail feel with Touring features even though also a touring bike. Definitely middle of the road between SG and RG.
I got an ultra classic. I take the tour pack off when I want a glide. It was the best bang for buck IMHO. Congratulations on whatever you get. I can ride 500 a day easy on my Ultra and bring all my shit. I ride everyday ✊🏻
I didn't even think of that. I'm the same height, but I was leaning toward the Road Glide just for the headlights and fixed fairing. Guess I'd better test ride both first.
@@libertyroads7342 Hell yes you should test ride them first. I am amazed at people who buy vehicles and never try them out first. And insist on a good test ride. Some dealers just spin you around the block.

I like the street better than the road glide, however I wanted to change so much stuff on it, I thought why spend all this money, just to start building it out with other equipment I really wanted on it. So I went in did some test rides, and price comparison, and am going with the Electra glide standard. Under 20 out the door, and only has what I need to start my build.
After riding a street glide 32,000 miles in a year and a half, and then trading to a road glide, i am indeed convinced the road glide DOES handle better. The fairing weight being fixed to the frame makes the handling so much smoother. if you're not looking for every ounce of performance, it just boils down to what you like riding and looking at!! Good luck with your choices, can't wait to see the next chapter.
as an owner of a road glide and a street glide, the road glide is more maneuverable than the street. you definitely feel the weight of the fairing of the street on slow speed turns and if you're not ready for it, it will surprise you. i was a street glide all the way until my road glide. now, if i'm doing distance, the RG is my choice. my SG is my local cruiser/bar hopper. if you do go with the street, you should think about the Electra glide standard to mod out. granted it won't be blacked out and have the 107, but it would be a blank canvas. I'd choose the RG.
ROAD KING!!!! Everything you want nothing that you don't. Get the Airstream windshield from the P&A catalog with quick detach hardware so you can take it off around town. It has the hard bags, cruise, foot boards etc. Simple decision. seriously get what you want after weighing all the pros and cons of each. Good luck!
The sport glide seems like the PERFECT bike for you!! It’s got the bags for a backpack that you can detach for that stripped back style you love. Also: Your videos are fantastic. I’m sixteen and cannot wait to get a Harley one day. Love from UK 🇬🇧🇺🇸
I mean blockhead I had an FXDR and traded it in for a street glide. I love the street glide personally it’s so much better for long distance rides and just rides in general. Bought it like 3 weeks ago already have 1k miles on my street glide. But man you do you. In my personal opinion I like the looks of the street glide better over the road glide.
Yes, get one. You will be very happy. You’ll enjoy the front fairing blocking the wind, the saddlebags to carry a lot of stuff, navigation system, stereo, iPod connectivity, long distance riding capable, the sound, the cool factor, reliability, fun to ride, take someone with you…….
I bought a 19 SGS and I cant stay off of it. I also use mine for commuting and either is great for longer distance but IMO it's the better looking of the two.
Hmm, I dunno man. I'm not convinced that you really want either of the Glides. I know you want to keep the low, streamlined look, but that will be tough to do with any type large fairing and bags. Although, I think the Road Glide has more of an aerodynamic look to it than the Street. My personal vote is to build out a Softail. You can pull the bags on and off as you like. Get a decent sized fairing, but not something yuge. Plus you can put more of a personalized touch to it, whereas the Glides will always look like... Glides. Always interested to see what you do with the bikes, man. Just remember why you ride. Because it's fun! Make sure you get a bike that you'll have fun with. 👍 Good luck, brother!
I had a Sport Glide myself, and while I loved it, the entire time I just wished it was a touring bike. This is after having ridden nothing other than Sportsters and Softails ever.
no colon still rollin I felt the same. I was trying to make my Sport Glide into a Street Glide until I finally bought one. LOVE my Street Glide. I feel like I could ride for hours and hours. Ride safe
Sounds like the road king is the perfect bike for you man. Sounds like u don’t really want the tour feel but u need the storage. Road king is the bike.
Bought a 18 street glide a few months ago. Upgraded from a 17 FXDB and have not had a SINGLE regret. I feel the bike is more agile than the dyna, and ALOT easier on the butt for longer trips. Plus radio is a world changer
I have a SG and I keep hearing how the RG is better distance. I feel my SG did well on a 1,000 mile trip we took, riding two up. I would def go with a bagger over the soft tail.
I was in the same situation, 160 mile round trip for work. I traded my Fat Bob in on a 2019 RKS and detachable windshield for the same reasons you spoke of...modularity. Can remove the windshield in seconds, and it’s the lightest touring Harley, so it’s still fun for cruising.
I rode a road king from Pittsburgh to Toronto and it’s the best bike I’ve ever been on. I’m not crazy about the look of it but it rides and feels awesome.
I had the Street Glide and you need at least a 10" handlebar to be comfortable. Now I would buy the new Heritage. Music in my helmet and better handling, suspension and price for the bike.
I bought that same bike about 5 months ago. I now have 6000 miles on it and I absolutely love it.With that being said ,I have had bolth oil sumping issues and transmission fluid transfer issues .Harley Davidson has made little to no effort to fix issues.
I was going to build up my Heritage to more touring, but ended up getting the Street Glide. I also felt the Road Glide felt bulky and not as "every day" as the Street Glide. I went with the Freedom Shields windshield, they are less expensive, very thick and sturdy, made here in America, and also let you try it out for a while to make sure it is what you want. I also went with 10" bars to put my arms level with my shoulders, and changed out the rear shocks with the SuperShox (one of my best upgrades). I put Harley's premium ride cartridges in the front, but I'll be switching those out. They aren't as good as others they compete against. I should have known better to begin with. For reference, mine is a 2014 FLHXS I bought new. I've only got about 32k miles on it now unfortunately as I haven't been able to ride much the last couple years. Hopefully that'll change soon.
I have a fat bob that I’ve done big multistate trips on with a holdfast quick detach luggage rack and just got a 19 inch windshield for which made a huge difference. I love it and it cruises nicely. Every trip this summer has had rain and my waterproof bag made it fine
I have a 2019 FLHX standard. I've been riding it since April 2019, came from a 2005 Yamaha V-Star 1100. I commute 100mi round trip per day for work, so going touring was a huge upgrade. Only "regret" I have was not penny pinching a bit more for the special w/ the 114 & blacked out features. The chrome is growing on me though. The fairing is so worth it as well. Way better than just getting windshield for a non-fairing bike. Been there done that.
Do it !! A week and a half ago, I traded my 2016 Fat Bob and 2016 Ducati Monster 1200R for a 2019 Street Glide Special in the exact same color that you're testing. I don't regret it for a second. The bike is amazing !!
For long runs street glide is super duper. I live in London England 🏴. I have 2019 softail slim with harleydavidson tall Handlebars with sundowner seat works well for me on narrow London streets for commuting and filtering. Good luck with your new purchase.👍
It sounds like what you want is either a sport glide or heritage. I felt the same about the sport glide before I took it out for a ride and fell head over heels for it. There’s so much you can do to that bike.
I had a street glide and loved it. Now I have an ultra and love it a “little “ more. I think you will enjoy it but, I feel like we all know you won’t keep anything too long.
Sport glide. I think it’s what your looking for. But Road Glide over Street Glide. I used to own a 2015 Street Glide, I missed the wind and “rumble” and went to a Dayna Street bob and loved it.
I’ve ridden both the streetglide and the roadglide. I tend to ride longer distance, and the Roadglide is the best. I purchased a Ultra model, and now have plenty of room for anything needed.
Low Rider S with bags and a good Memphis Shades fairing. You know you like that bike and fixed up it would serve your multi-mission mission! Follow the heart bro!
I like the road glide I just bought a 19 road glide and I went with it over the street glide because I didn’t feel claustrophobic on it like I did on the street glide and I’m a shorter guy and it has storage on the fairing also
I have a 2018 fat bob 107 and I rode it 124 miles roundtrip(62 and 62). Its stock but i have put almost 18,000 miles on it. It was brand new when I bought it and I live in LA. Traffic capital. It does the job easily. With the upgrades you would do to it if you bought one and it being the 114 your looking at. I'd say go with it. I wouldnt trade mine. But I would add a fairing for the wind.
The "glove box(s)" on the Road Glide are superior. If you have a modern phone (iPhone XR), it will NOT fit in the too small area on the Street Glide, making a mount or other type of thing necessary. I have a Street Glide, but with I went the other way. The wind "buffetting" is a non issue for me, but sooooooo many SG's out there.
Street glide probably better for your style as I kept getting the feeling the road glide size of fairing made you think the bike was too big and doesn’t fit your style. I had an old road king and you need to try a standard road king and it is just as comfortable as the others
It really depends on how far you wanna go at any given time. Ms. Blockhead rides her own, so it’s lot a matter of “is it comfy for both of y’all”. That was the issue for myself and my wife. We’re up in Tallahassee. We had a Dyna and found that anything longer than about an hour was not comfortable for her. But with our 2013 streetglide and the seat from an Ultra, we can go as far as we want. I miss the speed and attitude of my Dyna, but I love the “”Big Boy Bike” feeling of my streetglide. The step up is worth it. I did 1200 miles the same week I bought it, and it was fantastic
I’d go for the Street Glide. I ride a BMW R1200R that I have as a modular. When it is in its commuting or touring form, it is probably 90% as good as an RT. But BMW put a lot of R&D into the RT to do what it does well. If your application is modular, go softail. If your application is mileage cruncher, go Street Glide.
The windshield is from Klock Werks. The only thing I never got used to on my Road King was the late engagement of the hydraulic clutch, supposedly it has been changed in the newer bikes. Remember they make bag inserts for the touring bikes so you can just pull them out and go.
When I heard on the previous video that you didn't want to a bigger bike that you were not ready I thought: just don't 😅 a bagger seems too much for the purpose... Maybe a sportglide or something smaller than a bagger would be the perfect choice!! I would stick to your motto If you don't look back to your bike when you park it, you own the wrong bike! 👏👏👏 so wise!! Whatever you choose this chanel will still grow 🤘
On the windshield: test the Harley Windsplitter version with the 1” higher size than the standard SG windshield. I ride it comfortably at Highway speeds.
Blockhead no matter which bike you ride you will still be Blockhead, for cost wise the Street Guide is better, even an E.G. Standard has everything fairing and bags and cruise control just without the radio for 18900 but for a bike out the door with it all than the Street Guide is the way to go.the Fat bob is just a baby FXDR and would not be a good traveling bike and you would still be wishing for more storage.I have a Lowrider with fairing installed and hard bags with sissy bar for bag I commute about 70 miles around trip to my job at the Ambulance service and ride it every day even in the winter time and still wishing I went with a street guide instead of building the lowrider now looking close at the electric Guide standard and installing a sound system in it myself because of it's low cost. But go with the street Guide that's my two cents.
My first Harley was a Nightster which I rode four years then Iooked to upgrade Spring of 2019. I liked street glide from past years, then the sport glide came out and I liked the looks. I was really on the fence about the sport glide and street glide. In May I bought a lightly used sportglide during Myrtle Beach spring rally. I rode it about 3000 miles, which included and 1100 mile rode trip to the Tail of the dragon with my wife. Though the trip went very well and we had a blast, the sportglide still wasn't what I really wanted. I decided to trade in on a new 19 Street glide special in barracuda silver ! So glad I did move up to a touring bike. It's so accommodating, smooth, powerful and requires less effort to ride highway speed. My commutes are more enjoyable and easier even. I rode several rode glides at the demo truck and I really prefer the street glide. Overall the SG will keep you happy and comfy on your long commutes. Its money well spent !! Great videos Blockhead, keep up the good work ! 🤘
I'm a streetglide/ batwing of the Rushmore styles. The maneuvering seems more fluid than on a newer RGs, just me. Either way you go they are built for distance, and also in town shitn' gitin' . I use both my FLHC and SGS as my daily commuters, so I understand your delima in fun but function.
You can't become a bagger bro without test riding a Goldwing at least once so you know what you're missing. While you're off the HD plantation, check out a Valkyrie too.
i like the idea of customising the fat bob, i love the light bar and i think with the right mods would look badass and be comfortable enough to make the commute
I'd go with what you like the look of the best, I have 37k miles on my 17 street glide and distance isn't a problem. Set cruise on 85 and haul ass, sit side saddle and one handed at times to stretch etc, put a seat (I put a mustang super deluxe and love it) and highway pegs on it if you need more comfort for distance. Again I'd go with what you like the look of the best.
Ride them all get what you like I have a RGU with detachable tour pack and solo seat etc etc headed to the Bring it Home Rally put the the factory seat and tour pack back on . I actually work off the bike carry tools do some farm tractor repair...... I do it all on this bike , work , play , mental therapy.
Street glide with memphis shades curved windscreen only way to go for distance riding. I put one on my ultra limited and it is perfect. I got the six inch windscreen.
I think you should try one of the softails so you can remove the bags and fairing as needed. That way you can ride around town and still be able to commit to those long rides to work with your gear.
I used to have an Electra Glide Classic and now ride a Road Guild Ultra. I would choose a Road Glide for distance because you don't get any handlebar movement from the wind. But you have to buy what makes you happy. Ride Safe
I just sold FXR and bought street glide. Only to relieve my back. Miss the hotrod of FXR, but am in love with being able to ride more than 60 miles without the excruciation 🤷🏻♂️
Bring all the things you mention to the dealership and try the fit in the bags. You would be surprised how fast those bags fill up. I feel like the Road King Special is more what you are looking for.

StreetGlide 100%. I have a 2018 StreetGlide standard with the stage IV upgrade and i LOVE it!!!!
I bought the 19’ street glide 107 and have zero regrets.
I have a 2016 street glide. Installed V stream 7.5" windshield. Helps a lot with wind buffeting.
I think you'll be better of with the road glide it is a big shift for you but your instincts for it are spot on.
Also 12 inch bar install is pretty easy to do. Will make a huge difference in comfort
You do whatever feels right, these bikes are not inexpensive. Be sure, then enjoy it, you deserve to be happy
Get a Road glide! 😏
I have a Road King and Street Glide Special, you really can't go wrong with either one.
build out a softail, it's what I did and don't regret it at all. Fatbob with the fairing and sissybar does get a lot of strange looks though.
Yes get the FAT BOB, if ur not 100% committed to a bagger, build the fat bob for what u need. I ride my Fat bob to work every day and I love it
Have you put any kind of a fairing or shield on your f bob?
The street glide is one of the best bikes in my opinion and I’d like to see you do a build on a street glide
I went from a 48 to SGS. The only thing I don’t like about the SG is the buffeting. Haven’t quite solved it yet but a taller screen has helped
Personally, I would go with a Roadglide for distance.
Street Glide or Road King Special
You can't forget about the music! I can't live without music. Street Glide all day!
Had a soft tail fat bob and it was nice just wasn’t that great for distance. Now I have a road glide and feel like I can go anywhere
Traded my Boulevard in for a Street Glide for the same reason, i needed to go distance. Enjoy the heck out of it.
Awww, that sucks. I kept mine and got a Road Glide, best of both.
@@Infinitiwpb Definitely wish I could've done that, but I'm still happy.
Bring all the things you mention to the dealership and try the fit in the bags. You would be surprised how fast those bags fill up. I feel like the Road King Special is more what you are looking for.
Sounds like what your really looking for is all in the Heritage, more basic and still comfy for the long drive. Great channel man!
I love my streetglide personally great bike and I fit in with most crowds
