As an electrician that does strictly remodels this is an absolute essential tool. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0vyBwjtx9GGOuiqUVT2sRoYqmDoNT_RI Being able to precision cut any material with a light weight tool is priceless.I upgraded to this Dewalt 20v from a competitor's 12v. The Dewalt 20v is just as light as the competitor's 12v. I am extremely pleased with the overall performance and battery life of this tool. As far as oscillators go, they just aren't very ergonomic tools. The dewalt oscillators have an offset handle that do make them somewhat more ergonomic than the competitors' oscillators.
Excellent video for an excellent tool. I want one! Lol. Those look fun to use. I like that it oscillates rather than spins. The cordless 18v is going to the front of my wish list. Great job Alan Holtham!
"...for when you upgrade to a Makita." Ha, nice. Have a little pile of Makita tools so far and none let me down. Great products. Its the old school Craftsman brand of today :)
My makita multi master broke the other day... and I had to work without it.. I started to think... what the fuck did I do before the multi master came along..... answer... chisel.... no where near as good... I fucking love this tool👍 brought another one.. totally worth it 👍
Nice to see that Makita is going for standard blade fixings - i think fein is beginning to loose out because theirs is so costly. Cheap power tools are bad economy - i have 30 year old makita power tools still going strong.
Fein makes excellent blades. IIRC, the adapter for the Makita lets you use Fein blades. It's one trick for those without the huge budget who don't need a tool that they will use every day; buy a lesser tool, but use the best blades.
Although I like Makita tools, I have to say some companies have had quick release for the past 4 years. you drop that screw and lose it you've had it on a job.
Fein Multimaster is the king of the multi tools, longest cord and the most power.Put that Makita against the Fein changing attachments, the Fein Multimaster wins hands down.Fein Uses a lever you flip changing attachments instead of the allen wrench.
Fein multimaster is for tradesmen that use their tools a lot. YOu can get the makita for half the price if you shop. Fein is the standard of the industry, and is priced as such. Everyone else is second best. The newere makitas use toolless blade replacement.
It has been twice on warranty repair, first time they cleaned the head and said, I am applying too much pressure, so I have let the machine just sand it the second time with its own weight and you guessing right, same thing again! it twists by approx 15 degree of the pad and then, when you take it off you have to clean the head from the loops of the sand paper, very annoying. Tried several different sand sheets all the same result, so it is the head with the micro hooks that is the issue!
So how much power does this cordless too actually output? I mean, how does it compare to corded tool? Why no manufacturer is giving these numbers? What the hell?
Then you would just have a mains operated tool with the power of a battery operated tool, which is not something people want. Also, if you have access to mains, you can just charge your battery instead. Mains operated tools are also cheaper than battery operated. So I don't quite see the purpose here, seems to cover very rare scenarios.
In my opinion, Bosch tools are not professional tools. That's probably why not many tradesmen use them. Makita though, is being used all over the world. In my world, Makita tools are the best choice for any professional use, with tools that are aoutperforming Boschs equivalents on virtually every point. Bosch tools are for DIY'ers at best.
And it doesn't have to be made in Germany just because it says so on the tool. It may be engineered in Germany but manufactured elsewhere to keep the cost down. A lot of companies does that. The engineer the Products and let others manufacture it. The quality is the same no matter where it's being made. On the other hand, China makes a lot of no name shit that's being sold on the market but that is a whole different matter. We're not talking about branded stuff in that case.
Hello, as much as I love Makita, have quite a few power tools, Drill, Hand Circular saw, Cordelss Drill and Drive set, I am very disappointed with this multi tool sanding head to which you attach sandpaper via velcro hook and eye system. The Actual sandpaper (loops) is working on any other sanding machines I have, however this head (hooks) doesn't hold sandpaper properly, as it slides off after 5 minutes of sanding with minimum pressure applied. IT has to be redesigned, drives me crazy. Help!
makita has always put out a decent product. i will continue to use their tools. Nice vid. I subbed liked and obviously commented. lol. Check me out, i just started a tool review channel myself. just to take a look at the tools me and my buddies beat on day in and out on a commercial electricial crew. M.W.Electric, thanks
jaffar gamerr: Well, if you're going to bash anything, at least you can keep it objective and true? Nothing you say can be further from the truth than what you say here. Makita is shit huh? Yes, they make some of their tools in China but that can be said about almost every brand in the world nowadays so that's not unique to Makita. If you didn't know, Dolmar is now owned by Makita. And fact is that Makita manufactue their Tools all over the World, not only in China.
Another fact is that just because something's made in China, it doesn't make it shit. China manufacture a lot of shit, yes, but they also manufacture a lot of top quality stuff. Regarding Makita, the quality is the same no matter where it's being manufactured and that's because Makita's high quality demands. They control the manufacturing process you know. Use whatever you want but don't lie. Nothing wrong with Bosch but FACT IS that Makita is just as good, in my opinion a lot better than Bosch
Terrible design if you have to use a hex wrench to change the blade. I wouldn't buy this because I am always changing blades on my multi-tool. I thought we had advanced beyond the slow and tedious changing of blades on tools.
XMT03Z loses the light but gains the quick release blade locking (in place of the light). Home Depot has both the older version with the light (needs hex wrench) and the newer quick release tool change. I finally picked one up this afternoon for back yard works and it's the most awesome multi tool to have. $119.

beautifully designed tools. i love when people make tools to fit about every possible situations.
excellent demonstration for beginners like me well done alan
Excellent video for an excellent tool. I want one! Lol. Those look fun to use. I like that it oscillates rather than spins. The cordless 18v is going to the front of my wish list. Great job Alan Holtham!
I own the cordless version, and it work great. Super handy in awkward situations
Can you sand rust off metal with this tool? Does it work well?
"...for when you upgrade to a Makita."
Ha, nice. Have a little pile of Makita tools so far and none let me down. Great products. Its the old school Craftsman brand of today :)
Really excellent presentation. Thanks
Thanks for the detailed review. I ordered one.
Just one correction to the video, it has a 3.2° oscillation angle as far as i know.
I think he mentioned 1.6 degree to either side of center, which equals 3.2
excellent power tool so versatile i love it.
0:59 Don't think I've ever seen galvanized "non-ferrous metals" before
First time heard about its name. Super & Unique.

getting one today thanks
So how much power does this cordless too actually output? I mean, how does it compare to corded tool? Why no manufacturer is giving these numbers? What the hell?
the new model is about 350-390 w (Makita Multi Tool 18v DTM51Z Cordless Multi Tool )
Why not have an adapter that allows the use of the battery model to be run form the mains? It would be cheap to produce.
Then you would just have a mains operated tool with the power of a battery operated tool, which is not something people want. Also, if you have access to mains, you can just charge your battery instead. Mains operated tools are also cheaper than battery operated. 2nd warranty return, they have changed the whole sanding head, and yes again, same result. Has anyone else had the same problem?
Dayscope yes mine 2 months old head spins I’m returning for refund this is a flawed tool many others with same problem🇨🇮🇨🇮🇨🇮☘️

Really don't like that I have to use the Allen wrench. If I'm on a job I want to be able to move quickly.
But over all the Makita multi tool is pretty nice.
The truth is that any multi tool never does a single job well. If you doubt it for a moment, go see Alans Bosch sponsored vids;}

jollyandwaylo The "New XMT03Z" models ARE tool less blade change www.makitatools.com/en-us/Modules/Tools/ToolDetails.aspx?Name=XMT03Z
Aron Hadleigh That's good. Tool manufacturing is so competitive that any good idea usually gets passed on quickly to all brands.

You mean when you downgrade to makita? You could never upgrade to it!
