    Ryan - add a 25 or 35 lb weight plate to the removable pin to keep the weight lever arm at 45 degrees at the bottom of the movement. Simple fix.

  • @zauche81
    @zauche81 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    @Ryan Treadaway: Use the block pin and hang a little weight disc onto it which prevents the lever from going to the 0° hanging position. This changes the whole resistance curve ... and you do not need a "fancier" machine.
    Just found this hint on TH-cam today ... It's a "GameChanger" ! :D

    The 2 cons you mentioned about the instability of the machine & the vertical moment arm can both be simultaneously fixed by just resting the plates on a low stool to create a more horizontal lever arm at the start of the range of motion. This hack also decreases the need for so much weight.
    You're welcome. 😊

    Hey Ryan love the channel! Quick tip what you should try is adding resistance bands or connecting it to your diy pulley system it’ll works wonders. If you decide to go with the bands Connect them to something that’s solid and won’t move which will help you get resistance of the start and a stronger resistance at the top.

    • @RyanTreadaway
      @RyanTreadaway  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This helps in a way, but also exacerbates the original problem. It adds resistance at the top with much less resistance at the bottom.
      And thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you're enjoying the channel, Oliver!

    Thanks for mentioning the instability of this machine. Ive seen so many reviews and no one seems to mention any of this. Home gym equipment has to be safe and details like this are very important to me considering id likely be lifting at home and by myself. I know Body Solid has a version of this machine that appears to have a larger footprint, possibly for the reasons you mentioned.

    Excellent review, thank you. I just purchased one and put it together, yesterday. It is very well constructed. Great advice to remove that pin! I also use some white paint to mark my preferred holes for Extension versus Curl. Regarding the ROM/Gravity issue, I find I get the best pump using lower weight and more reps (20-30).

    Put the pin back in and put a 35# plate on it now your initiation is further into the moment arm. You can do it for both exercises.

    Been looking to buy this for a while, from what I've seen some people do to fix the leg extension ROM issue is swing the weight plate forward, then pop the pin. This allows to have tension throughout.

    • @RyanTreadaway
      @RyanTreadaway  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's what I was trying to describe when I talked about adjusting it so that the weight arm didn't hang straight down. That does help but doesn't completely fix it.
      Even with that drawback, I'm still very pleased with my purchase and would do it over again.

  • @wread1982

I have a bells of steel far cheaper rack mounted leg curl/extension but want a stand alone model but before I get it want to be able to have a more full range of motion. How important is the minimal range of motion on these types of devices and what are you missing out on by not getting the full range?

    • @RyanTreadaway
      @RyanTreadaway  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are missing out on a little bit of results by not having full range of motion. You'll have this issue with basically all plate loaded leg ext/curl machines though. If you have a cable machine, you can fix this by hooking this machine to a cable.
