5:26 ... used this tending grunt to call in and kill my best. Learned this years ago as imagining "a slow rusty gate being opened or closed slowly." Using it cold can bring in a dominant buck thinking someone is in his bedroom. Little bucks and most does will not be seen though! Use sparingly. My best and numerous others have been brought in.

In the hunt brake downs it would be nice to see more calling on how you got the buck to come out

What state were you in when you shot it? Just curious. I am in North Carolina and I have seldomly. Had any luck with calling?

What part of NC? I’m also in NC and it will mainly depend on the terrain. I know some of these young planted pine thickets, or thickets in general, around here cause a problem. Not because the deer don’t react, but you just never see them. I always thought calling wasn’t worth it when i was younger. Until i gained more access and hunted different types of properties. Even seemingly open oak ridges or timber, they can sneak around. Very few places in my part of the state, can you see far enough in the timber (80-100yds) clearly enough, to pick a buck up trying to move down wind of your call. Especially when you’ve positioned your stand in a down wind location of your expected movement. Rarely does that leave a 360° field of view with enough distance to catch the movement. But calling DOES work in NC. Stand placement has to be nearly perfect though. I shot a 128” 8, 2 years ago in some of the thickest woods i have, overrun with holly trees, at 7 yards only about 8ft up. I did a hang and hunt, but my stand was where if a deer tried to skirt down wind, he would HAVE to come within 20 yards of me in either direction.
Clear cut, thinned, and Ag Land, work the same for me. Cut timber that has pigweed all through them make it easy for a buck to skirt you. AG fields with pinches help a lot, they’re not gonna cross a 100ac bean field or cow pasture to get down wind of you, typically.
Also, we have a lot of hunters around here that just arbitrarily call to deer, at the absolute worst times, and sound like dying calves in a hail storm when they do. So a lot of the deer can easily be over-called to.
Think of it like a Tom in late season, you yelp to him, he gobbles back once or twice but doesn’t respond to your 3rd yelp. Dont call again, he’s heard you and he’s coming. That extra couple yelps could turn him off real quick.

*** you obviously won’t hear a buck generally return your call, but just trust in your call, and trust that if he heard you, and he’s in a mood for calling to get him going, he’ll come.**

I called in a big Muley using a grunt tube by sucking and blowing rapidly like a buck breading a doe.I was on the ground still hunting and the cranker of a buck came directly too me with the hair on his back all the way up his neck standing on end.As he approached he was slapping his antlers against the bushes. He meant business and wanted to fight.I stopped him at 20 feet with another grunt.Game over.

I’d like to see blind calling videos I hardly ever see any. If I do it’s usually rattling
