I can't believe Thriller came in 1982 and was STILL being nominated in 1985... that's how huge that album was. Just unbelievable.

    • @amedeo29
      @amedeo29 6 ปีที่แล้ว +153

Well, Thriller was released November 30th, making it too late to be an entry for the 1983 awards (held in Feb of 83)
Thriller the song was the final single from the album, and wasn't released until 1984, which is when the stunning music video came out, hence it being up for awards the following year.
The Grammy's are held every February, and the cut off for eligible albums is September 30th of the previous year. So an album released in October of 2017 won't be eligible for a grammy until the February 2019 awards shows. Weird, I know.
The album of course was huge, its almost always at the very top of every list for best albums of the 1980s, and best pop albums ever. But that being said, there are rules for when music is up for awards, and it has to have had release within a window of dates. And that is why this song was eligible. Otherwise, we probably would have seen all his albums up for awards all over again in 2010, with the awards that followed his 2009 death.

Micheal Jackson had (Vincent) Price. Did Prince have Price? Hell, no. Michael should have won, on that fact, alone, but, Prince did have "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan at his side, so, it should have been a tie, with the tiebreaker being Fred Armisen does a better Prince, than Prince, therefore, Michael (and Vincent Price) should have won. May whom the hell ever has died, Rest, In Peace.

I'm sure there are ground breakers out there right now but they aren't getting the attention the artist did back then. Keep in mind there was no internet, no social media, etc... EVERYONE got their music from basically the same sources and there were only a few media outlets at the national and global level. The different musical sounds from those eras had never been heard before and there were so many different kinds and styles. I grew up with soul train on television, again white people excluded and not our idea
Having awards for people in black entertainment was not the idea of white people to be racist. It was because black people in the industry wanted it. They wanted to have a category where they were not competing with other races in the music industry

Funny story though.. at the time artists that were born out of the 70s, like Joni Mitchell and Elvis Costello, often remarked that 80s music was garbage, and made similar "What the hell happened to music" comments. To this day 80s music has lots of haters. The 80s took rock and punk and made it more commercial with hair bands etc. The movement towards electronic music gave "real musicians" a bad taste in their mouth. A lot of great dance music came out of the 80s, and a lot of great pop. Singer/songwriters and guitar driven bands have long cursed the 80s for being too commercial sounding, and lacking any true talent. The truth is these people were trapped in the past, lacked innovation, and by the 1990s no one was talking about them.

I remember watching this award show as a child in 4th grade. It was very powerful and exciting, loaded with more epic talent than can be mentioned. Each artist creating their own unique style of music, not even mentioning the dance, fashion, artistic vision of their videos. I'm talking about even the Pointer Sisters seen in the audience, they had huge hits. Everyone brought forth their own talent. It was scary. I thank God I lived through this amazing time of experiencing nuclear explosions of art forms cascading on the radio and tv.
I look at music now for the most part in disgust, but moreso understanding the goal of what is promoted by the powers that be. What I mean is, when I see a modern artist with their "huge" pop song on YT with million + views, that's not actual people tally, those are bots. There is no hit. The industry went utterly corrupt mid-90s and fell rock bottom in 2000. The higher levels produced on CDs late 90s reduced sound dynamics, that is the wave form became less peaks and valleys. Then the computers made music artificial and too perfect, lacking human error, subliminal tempo changes, feeling.
cRap and shit Hop promoted over the past 20 years on purpose by the New World Order who worship Satan because much of it preaches recidivism, is mid-tempo lacking uplifting dance rythyms. The NWO understand the power of the metaphysical, the power of music on humankind. Oh they attempted to infilitrate music before with heavy metal and all the satanic push. It was rebellious music after all. But even rock was too rebellious to be weighted down by the devil horns. Now the NWO found the perfect medium to poison minds with "music" which really isn't even music. Useful idiots mumbling over repeated computer sounds. That's not creativity. Sure, cRap and shit Hop has their place in the music spectrum of talent, throw it in the narrow gutter where it belongs. You cannot tell me there is not another Whitney Houston level singer on this earth with inspirational songs. Not when we have tech that any person can reasonably purchase and have a home studio at their fingertips. Things artists only dreamed of years ago. You will not hear them because the powers that be will not promote them. When historically these pop songs are mega hits and monetary booms. So....the industry doesn't want this known hitmaking beloved talent and genre heard? No they do not. The NWO want the people disheartened, angry and downtrodden. Not uplifted, inspired. This is a battle of the spirtual. The music industry was destroyed on purpose, the past few decades since 2000 many of those who grew up in 80s can readily see that something is wrong. You will have to seek on other platforms raw talent.

1985 was a year especially busy for Madonna.
The video for "Material Girl" came out on 1 February, the movie "Vision Quest" in February & the movie "Desperately Susan" came out in early March.
Thanks to the "Vision Quest" soundtrack, especially the single "Crazy For You", Madonna got her 1st Grammy nomination.
Also during the shooting of "Material Girl" Madonna knows Sean Penn & married.

After The Virgin Tour end, made the Live AID in July.

+Gina Sousa Branco She should have done The Virgin Tour a World Tour. She was already famous enough to do it. Besides, I hate the change of look she took for Live Aid.

Sergio V That look change had a purpose / justification.
Madonna's was covered from head to toe - despite the enormous heat - in protest for her nude photos from 1979 published without her permission on the Playboy & Penthouse.

And Lionel Richie said that night, after hosting the AMA he rushed directly to the studio for recording We are The World along with Michael Jackson, Huey Lewis, Tina Turner, Cyndy Lauper and many more. They had been packed in that studio the whole night. A night so unique that cannot be replicated. Wow!!!
