You put my photos at 35:20 and 49:08 to good use! My hobby is gathering photos for rcdb of coasters in China currently without photos and also "discovering" Chinese coasters not currently on rcdb. Thank you for this extensive overview and for giving me ideas for more parks I need to visit on my next coaster road trip!

I heard from other enthusiasts in China that coasters in China are very underrated. I also heard that operations are horrible and can take up to 15 minutes for a dispatch, I also heard that the maintenance is not nearly as good as other parts of the world such as Japan or the States so coasters can be really rough. Since I travel to Asia a lot, I may take a trip to Shanghai and Hong Kong once all the drama there clears up.

I've been to Ocean Park in Hong Kong and Hong Kong Disneyland and rode the coasters there. They seemed to be well kept and had smooth rides and acceptable operations. One of them had a VR component so I give them some leeway dealing with fitting all those screens to peoples heads. I really enjoyed the Big Grizzly Mine Train at HK Disney. This was in 2018 so not exactly recent.

I also obsess over RCDB data and was aware of all of this, but youtube definitely needs more content about the Chinese parks and coasters. Hopefully this will encourage the creation of more such content, and better yet if it's from actual trips there with ride reviews.
By the way, they also have some really appealing flat rides around too, especially at the Happy Valley and Sunac chains, if I recall correctly.

I suggest a follow up video with specific travel suggestions... Like a Shanghai area, Hong Kong and Bejing. Covid has limited China travel so and update on travel restrictions. Note, Theme Park Worldwide had a great trip in 2018. Disneyland Shainghai and Universal Beijing should attract more people in the coming years... great video, thanks!

  • @coaster420

As someone who understands just how much RCDB research you had to do to compile this video, holy shit. This is outstanding. I straight up took notes.
I was going to do this myself, but it seems you're more qualified for it: making a playlist of all of these essential coasters' POVs so that we can watch them all together, perhaps following your rankings, even going beyond top 25.
This is the first channel I've seen that goes truly in-depth about Chinese coasters, and getting a curated playlist of what's in China through you could get some serious numbers to blow up your channel. I want to see them, but when 7 rides from my favorite manufacturer are called "Jungle Trailblazer" or whatever, it gets so confusing.
On another note, I really hope that the majority of these coasters don't become permanently inaccessible for tourists as a result of the government becoming more and more, well... insane.
Do you know about that weird issue where every Chinese coaster legally has a strict shelf life and expires after like 20 years, literally having its operational license permanently rescinded? That could be a video topic as well. Apparently it's a gimmick to induce parks to spend more money on more shit, and could directly be correlated with why most parks have so few coasters and why so many of them are neglected.

Went to Glorious Orient last week in Ningbo, very well themed. Its also located next to the Oriental Heritage park in Ningbo, the entrances right next to each other. The dispatches on Fighter Jet were terrible, they had two trains but only loaded one at a time, waited until that train finished the layout, and only then would load the next 8 riders, but the park is very well themed

I understand the importance of China in the amusement industry. China's market is more competitive since there are over a billion people there and many, MANY provinces. Several manufacturers depend on the Chinese market for sizable income, which leads to bigger attractions here in the west. By comparison, the western market can only expand so fast with a fraction of China's population and local building restrictions (China has more open space and officials can sadly evict people from their homes to build a new theme park, as was the case for Shanghai Disneyland).
The reason China's rides are rarely covered is that it is extremely difficult for many western enthusiasts to visit their parks and take footage. There is also a lack of rider testimonies since not many Americans can afford to take Trips to China. And as for me, I don't want to spend thousands of dollars to visit a Chinese park only to find out their rides are not operating. I also wouldn't know how to navigate the country and am unable to speak, read, or understand Chinese.
China is a country where services like Google and TH-cam are banned, so there isn't a lot of usable footage except from Roller Coaster Dream (who I will say has been very helpful in allowing me to use his footage; he's awesome). For this reason, the coasters there are often overlooked even though they are of high quality.

I grew up in China, but I don't really live there since 2016 and haven't been back since 2020. So the below are just my personal opinion/observations.
You hit the nail on the head with the coaster density in China. If you filter out all the knockoffs, every major park pretty much has only 1 or 2 coasters worth riding. How much the major coasters are spread out makes a coaster trip in China a huge ordeal.
IMO China has a lot of A-tier coasters but very few S-tiers. What I mean by that is we have a lot of solid good coasters on the level of Fahrenheit, Diamondback or Cheetah Hunt, but very few elite coasters like Fury, Iron Gwazi or Hyperion that are worth travelling internationally for. In fact I think there is only a handful of coasters in China that are "world-class", but hey we have 8 wing coasters and 10+ new gen Vekomas!!
On that topic, I really don't like Chinese parks' tendency to keep adding the same attractions across the industry. It used to be B&M wings and GG woodies, and now it's new gen Vekomas. Parks in general are less willing to take risks and get attractions that are new to the country. And in the future it might get even worse as the domestic brands figure out how to knock off things beyond early Vekoma SLCs and loopers 🤣
Finally, ooh the operations. I think Chimelong is the only chain in China that tries to run their coasters at the same standard as the western parks. Other parks (especially OCT and Sunac from my experience) commonly run 1 train on busy days and don't really care about the long lines.

I appreciate the presentation of your opinions, brutally honest when a feature/attraction is a pile of steaming turds, contrasted with stoic appreciation when the opposite is the topic at hand. Too many opinions seem sponsored, coaxed out with an incentive package or other sellout swag that I wouldn't be above producing a series of 'favorable' reviews to get my hands on, especially if it involved getting to tour the European parks for free/while being paid. I'll likely have to do this or similar to ever even get to see some of the parks here in the States, yada yada. Thanks for the no-frills content. Subbed and liked!

Big population yes, lots of brand-new coasters all over China, it's a miracle place for them. It's wondrous to see many complete, opening soon even. But there's always another, even better coaster just down the road, the coaster that's all the rage, when will it open? And there's the problem.

I’m aware that lots of people are impressed with this ride, but it doesn’t look that special in my opinion. It’s probably something that needs to be seen to be appreciated, and I probably should have given it more attention in this video.
