Quick Change Tool Holders too tight? See what we did to fix ours | Part 13

In this video, we decided to experiment with some low-cost quick change tool holders we purchased from overseas. We noticed that some of them had a tight fit, making it difficult to slide them on and off the tool post smoothly. To address this issue, we attempted to use valve grinding compound, also known as lapping compound, on the tool holders.
Throughout the video, we mistakenly refer to the tool holders as "bit holders" instead. We apologize for any confusion this may cause and would like to clarify that we are indeed referring to the tool holders.

I had the same problem; Out of desperation I tried using, rather gently, a triangle file against both sides of the tool holder's dovetail, pressing it so to be as flat as possible, and cyclically reversing the toolholder. Not so professional as using a lapping compound, but it worked a charm, and (alas) I had to fix several of them... :)

Thank you for sharing! we're glad to hear you've had success manually filing the tool holder! We do have one that is extremely tight fitting and we may try your method on this one, at least to get it started before we finish it with lapping compound!
