Beautiful stitching as always. That biscornu was just gorgeous! Looking forward to more tutorial videos and I am one of those people who adores long videos. Best excuse ever to grab my stitching and sit down for an hour!
Hi Carolyn Another awesome video from you. So pleased your shoulder is healed. Biscornu beautiful and well done. The DVD you got, mine I use it often. Oh the Giraffes are delightful and the fabric you have chosen is gorgeous. Can't wait to see the first wip update on them. Looking forward to more tutorials from you soon. Take care Hugs Amanda from UK xxx
Amanda Williamson Thanks so much Amanda. That DVD is a great idea - I wish all the magazine companies would do this. It takes up so little room in my closet :) Happy stitching :) x
Hey Carolyn! So good to hear that your shoulder got better! I love the pink doorstep on your cottage! Your HAED is stunning!! I just love the soft colors. Needleworker is so pretty, I love that design. Your biscornu is so delicate and pretty! Your little life's a stitch pin cushion is so cute, you really were busy in May! Great prize, lucky you :) Oh my gosh you fed a giraffe!!! That is so neat!! And the pattern you found is perfect! Thanks for sharing your pictures of you meet and greet with a giraffe with us! :)
+Khristine Doiron Thanks so much for all the wonderful compliments Khristine ;) Feeding those giraffes was definitely a highlight and something we'll never forget. Their gentle, graceful nature is well depicted in Jayne's design.... must see about getting that framed this year. Take care and happy stitching :) x
So glad to hear your shoulder is better! That's great news. Every time I see your HAED I fall in love with it more. She is such a beauty! Thanks very much for the elaboration on tent stitching. Absolute perfect timing, as I'm doing some test stitching for my first HAED this week :) The way you explain continental tent stitch finally made it click in my mind. I never understood why simple half crosses caused distortion, but now I do. Looking forward to your next parking vid!
Darling Bluebell Thanks so much! Not too many stitchers talk about tent stitching or tent stitch parking for that matter, and I know a lot of people are considering it (anything to finish a HAED quicker is going to be a positive), so I felt the need to bring it up. Now just have to pull my finger out and get that video organised :) Thanks for watching and happy stitching :) x
Congratulations on your Biscornu FFO! Learned that stitchy term from you :-) I admire your dedication to your rotation and like you said, obviously it works for you. Also grats on the awesome prize win! The giraffe design you're starting soon is adorable, and the fabric you have chosen is perfect! Thanks for the photos from your zoo adventure and for another great video!
Jill Swank Thanks so much Jill. I can't believe how often I hear FFO now.... I feel like I've pioneered something, although I didn't make up the term... just shared it :) With the rotation some weeks are easier than others. Next week is the Blackwork Journey, and although I enjoy it, I don't enjoy it as much as cross stitching.... so there's always a little bit of trepidation when it approaches it's turn. But I don't want it to become a UFO, so I'll push through and get it done. Thanks so much for watching and happy stitching :) x
I'm glad to see that someone else has got Mini Bathtime. I have it in my stash and have been searching everywhere for pictures/videos of the finished project or any tips to go along with her. The fact that you mentioned that it is confetti heavy will allow me to plan out how to best proceed with stitching her when I get around to it. Great video!
A Rose I was surprised that I couldn't find anyone else stitching her either - she's so beautiful, and YES, confetti heavy.... but I love it! Thanks so much for watching and happy stitching :) x
Wow! So much for me to comment on. I don't know where to begin and I'll probably forget most of what I wanted to say! First of all, I am glad your shoulder is better. I love love LOVE the biscornou (not sure how you spell it!). I will never do one myself because I know I would mess up when putting it together. All the wips are coming along nicely. The giraffe pattern is gorgeous. I am so jealous that you were able to get so close to the giraffes in the zoo! I live your long videos and I will look forward to your tutorials. I have been stitching for 26 years but since finding You Tube I am learning so much! I can't wait for your next video!
Kerry Sayers Thank you so much Kerry! You know the biscornu looks more difficult than it really is. The key is to make sure you start with the same opposing stitches - if you do that and don't miss a stitch, it will match up. I enjoyed putting it together so much I used the same finishing technique for my Life's A Stitch pincushion - it's just a square shape but I added beads to the border of that one too.... a little time consuming, but addictive! Yes we were very fortunate to meet the animals that close up - they are such timid creatures, but if you've got food they'll meet you.... just like cats hey? Hope to work on the tutorials this weekend (as long as I don't get any interruptions!). Happy stitching :) x
Another great video Carolyn... I loved your biscornu - a friend of mine has a beautiful basket in which she keeps her stitched 'smalls' like pin cushions and biscornus. It is such a feature on her dresser that you can't help but peek to see if there are any new ones... I was stitching (well, listening and peeking occassionally :) ) and I had a giggle to myself when you were speaking about your preferred stitching style re your needleworker sampler. I actually choose to stitch each single stitch completely. I know it is a slower process but I find I don't get as lost as easily and I feel like I make fewer mistakes. I thought if only Carolyn could see me now ;) ;) Keep up the good work both your stitching and videos they are a joy to watch. I don't think that I shall ever make one as I am such a slow stitcher that I would be giving yearly updates not monthly - but I do love watching what other people stitch... Take care now x
a stitch today - the rest tomorrow Thank you so much! I have envisioned having a basket of smalls too one day, how lovely that would be :) I love that we all have our own way of doing things, makes our hobby interesting and even after stitching for so long it gives us new things to try. Full credit to you for doing those stitches individually - I will be thinking of you next time I'm trying to avoid it ;) Thank you very much for your kind words, they really are appreciated. Happy stitching :) x
Great stitching as always... But so loved that you shared your personal zoo photos with us. They are magnificent animals and your pictures were like beauty and the beast. 😊 take care!
Rena Furman Haha you're right - I didn't think of the animals that way! It was such an incredible experience to see them that close. Our zoos have very wide perimeter fencing that the animals don't get anywhere near too (like most zoo's would I guess), so to be able to see the fine details of things like eyelashes and even the grain running through the hippo's teeth, was a rare treat. I think maybe after I've stitched the giraffes I'll be on the lookout for a nice hippo design too. Thanks again for watching and happy stitching :) x
The biscornu is so beautiful. I'm sure your mum loves it. Needleworker looks great and so does the May cottage. Looking forward to seeing more of your tutorial videos.
Ladybird Stitcher She did love it and she said I timed it perfectly because she's about to throw her old ratty pincushion out :) Hope to get some tutorials done this weekend (it's a long one here), as long as I don't get any interruptions. Thanks for watching and happy stitching :) x
sara bounds Thanks so much Sara! I don't think of myself as knowledgeable at all... but I guess for those starting out I have picked up a few tips here and there, that I'm more than happy to share with you all. Anything that makes a stitching session more enjoyable is a plus in my book. Thanks so much for watching and happy stitching :) x
Beautiful finishes your biscornu is stunning and I can't wait to see needleworker framed. OMG love love love your giraffe project absolutely beautiful. Your photos are amazing I will have to show my daughter Robyn the hippo pictures as she has collected hippo since she was a little girl and still does and she is 28 now :) hugs, Patty BC Canada
Patty Smith Hi Patty :) Thank you so much! We were very fortunate to get up so close to those incredible animals. The giraffes were so stunning up close, and those eyes and eyelashes!!!!!! Brutus the hippo was VERY smelly and I was grateful he held his mouth open long enough for that close up photo. You just can't get photo's that close when they're in their normal exhibit at the zoo, obviously for protection of the public. It was a great day out and one we'll never forget. I hope your daughter enjoys the photo's :) Thanks for watching and happy stitching :) x
Beautiful finishes, I love your needleworker and your little life's a stitch; it is a really sweet design, I absolutely adore the giraffe pattern you are going to be doing, the fabric choice is going to look amazing with the giraffes,I can't wait to see that being stitched up!!x
Pearlinstitches Thanks so much! I'm so excited to start the giraffes that I'm almost ready to drop everything and just do it now... but I'm trying very hard to be patient. I hope it looks as good as it does in my imagination :) Thanks for watching and happy stitching :) x
Emily Chadwick It was certainly a day we will both never forget! They have the most amazing eyes and eyelashes :) Thanks so much for all your beautiful comments Emily - I truly appreciate them all :) x
Glad to hear the shots worked! May you continue to feel good. I think your addition to the needle with the blending filament was perfect. Awesome biscornu finish! And congrats on your win. Fun stuff! [Carolyn showed "the whole of Flosstube" her back side. *giggle, giggle*]
I absolutely love the giraffe design. I have been looking at that one myself lately and you may have just convinced me to make that my next purchase. They are one of my favorite animals. They are so absolutely beautiful. I am so jealous that you had that wonderful experience with them but am so happy for you! :)
+Melissa Derlein Hi Melissa! I cannot recommend that design highly enough. It was such a joy to stitch (even with the large amounts of confetti stitch) because it's just so lifelike. I'm so excited to get that framed this year and hang it somewhere that I can enjoy it and remember that experience. Not sure about where you live, but at our zoo you can purchase special tickets that give you 1 on 1 experiences with certain animals. You may want to enquire at your local zoo to see if they do that, if that's something you'd really like to do. Just so lovely to get up close and personal with them.... they're such timid creatures. Take care and happy stitching :) x
Everything looks so wonderful. I biscornus in my TBS (to be stitched) bag. I will get to them eventually. What an amazing giraffe adventure. Glad you finally found a nice pattern chart of giraffes to stitch.
Palette PC Thanks Bev - there's something very addictive about putting them together. It took quite awhile but it was really enjoyable.... so much so, that I put my Life's A Stitch pincushion together the same way (but just as a square, not the irregular shape). It was really amazing getting so close to the giraffe's - I loved them before but now even more so :) I might have to look for a hippo design next :) Happy stitching :) x
Beautiful finishes. The biscornu and Needleworker are my favorites this time. Giraffes are so precious, aren't they? I have been fortunate to touch a young one's face (he licked my husband's cheek, lol). I think the giraffe cross stitch will be lovely. Glad your shoulder is better. Looking forward to more videos. Cheryl
Cheryl TheWaysideStitcher Thanks so much Cheryl. Aww that's so sweet about the Giraffe :) I'm really looking forward to starting that one.... and counting the days! Happy stitching :) x
Another great video!! Your finishes look so good and the biscornu!! I want to do one so badly and love how that came kitted up already. Can't wait to see your giraffe stitched up they are one of my favorite animals :) happy stitching!!
Cassandra Martinez Thank you Cassandra. There are loads of freebie biscornu designs on the internet, in case you don't want to purchase a kit just yet. I highly recommend giving it a go. I'm looking forward to doing my next one :) Happy stitching to you too :) x
Great video! Congrats on all of your finishes so far this year! Your biscornu is beautiful! Funny you had this is your update video because I just picked up two sweetheart tree biscornu patterns at my LNS today! She had them price 1/2 price and I have wanted to try one! Can't wait to see your tutorial! Needleworker turned out lovely!
it was a pleasure to watch this video )) thank you so much )) a LOVELY design with giraffs !!! i love it )) i like listening to your plans ... i enjoy making plans .. unfortunately i don't fullfil most of them (( i am glad you do !!
Yulia Bardo Thank you so much Yulia. Don't worry, not all my things go according to plan - but I do like to try. I find that if I make plans ahead of time it's easier for me to not get off track and get distracted by something else. Thank you so much for watching, and happy stitching :) x
Carolyn, love the biscornu. Someone may have already mentioned this - or you may have figured it out by now, but you can stitch variegated threads using your preferred stitching style. To do this, thread your needle keeping track of which end you thread it with. Stitch the first half of the crosses. Stitch as many of the half-crosses as you can (preferably using up that strand of thread - if possible). When you're ready to come back the other direction, re-thread your needle with a new set of the variegated threads - but this time, thread the needle with the opposite end. Then start stitching the top half stitches. If you don't use an entire strand for the bottom half stitches, you can still use this method - it will just take a bit more effort to be sure to start stitching the opposite direction at the correct "color" point of the strand. I only use this method if there are a lot of stitches for the variegated stitches, otherwise, I either cross each stitch as I go to get the variegated look - or simply stitch normal - getting a muted colorway. Hope this helps :)
Abecedarian Stitcher Oh wow, thanks so much.... that is indeed very helpful, and I had no idea! I was just looking at kitting up a Lizzie Kate design that I've had in my cupboard for way too long, and looking at the suggested hand dyed threads, then looking at the large blocks of squares that needed stitching.... all the time thinking ugh I have to do each one individually.... then thinking maybe I'll just use DMC instead. Thank you SO much, I can actually get excited about this design now :) OK so I'd like to share that in my video when I discuss that project and I'd like to credit you for that information (with your permission), but I'm wondering how I actually say your name??? Does the "c" in Abecedarian have an "s" sound or a "k" sound? I'd like to pronounce it correctly :) x
I know you get tired of hearing the same old words, but I love your videos. After watching one I feel like I can do anything. Hope your life Is treating you well
Pam Ford Awww that's so sweet of you Pam.... thank you SO much! You CAN do anything - as I tell my children, some things just take a little more practise than others, but you can do anything you put your mind to. Thanks so much for watching and happy stitching :) x
Hi Carolyn, good job another success video. I really love watching your updates every now and then, so when i saw your post to instagram that you are uploading a new one after I dropped kids to school i watched your video straight away. Again well done..and yeah i just uploaded my very first video as angelstitch..but not as good as yours though..still working on it ;)
angelstitch Thanks so much! I've just subscribed to your video (thanks for letting me know) and I've put it in my 'watch later' section because I'm just about to head off to work. I look forward to seeing what you have to show. Happy stitching :) x
Lovely video - I look forward to them since I'm always learning something new, whether it's how to do something or a new tool to add to the wish list. Apparently, my natural bent is to alternate between regular & continental tent stitch. I wonder if that has any effect on the fabric - I haven't noticed since it's my first time tent stitching & this project is on Aida... Glad to hear your shoulder is on the mend & thanks for sharing your zoo pictures!
+mleung25 Thank you so much! I think we're continually learning with this hobby - there always seems to be something new or a new trend :) Hmmmm not sure, but I think Aida would definitely help in not distorting the fabric.... something that is more and more evident with my current HAED :( Still having shoulder issues... I think it's an ongoing issue now. But that's life and there's no point complaining about it. The cure would probably be to stop stitching, and that's not going to happen!!! Take care and happy stitching :) x
Love the video, as usual. I have a Sweetheart Tree kit as well but wasn't ready to start anything that required too much thinking! Your beautiful finish has inspired me to take a look at it again. I was glad to hear that I'm not the only stitcher having the issue with blocks of white - would be curious to see if others are having the same experience. My Mirabilia is all blocks of color but only the white is a problem and it drives me nuts! Looking forward to the tutorial, you're a great teacher.
longtimestitcher Hi there! I recognise you from Instagram :) I really hope you get that kit out and give it a go - I'm sure you won't be sorry. Something as pretty as their designs are too nice to be sitting in a cupboard out of sight. Ugh white!.... I guess we all have something we don't like with a passion, and white stitching is mine. I'm hoping to reverse that thought one day because I've refused beautiful designs because of it, and that's a shame. I'm also not a fan of really large blocks of any colour (and by that I mean big square, or rectangular boring blocks). I don't mind when it has a shape to it (like my Celtic Autumn) and I have to keep track of the design, but the thought of stitching 10 rows of one colour from end to end just bores me! LOL Thanks so much for watching and happy stitching :) x
Two Purple Threads Thank you. I love that it was a super quick design too - it's a great feeling getting those finishes out of the way. Happy stitching :) x
Milda V. Z. I stitch on average around 4-5 hours every night and sometimes I can sneak in an extra 1 hour in the afternoon... so yes I do get a lot done. I've actually become quite a hermit and would prefer to stay home and stitch than go out! Mum absolutely loved the biscornu... so I'm very happy. Thanks for watching and happy stitching :) x
Carolyn Mazzeo Now I understand where is my problem: I have so less stitching time. Usually I have no time for stitching in the weekends and in working day I have a lot of things to do... Thank you :)
I love your biscornu it is just gorgeous. I will definitely have to get one of those kits myself. I laughed when you talked about your stitching style and not liking completing each cross at a time when using hand dyed threads. I used to be exactly the same but I have now spent so much time stitching with hand dyed threads that I do it with everything even plain DMC. It's funny how you adapt to different things :-) Oh I am way behind with my floss tube videos so apologies for the late comment.
+Nicola Maltby My apologies for the late reply! Somehow missed the notification for this one (and a few others it appears!!), so I'm so sorry. The biscornu kits are adorable and I love how everything is included. Nothing worse than having to buy full skeins of hand dyed floss, only to use a couple of strands of it. Yes it is funny how we adapt... I find individual stitches take me longer than running stitches. Every now and then I attempt to do a running stitch with the hand-dyeds and then have to frog lol! Take care and happy stitching :) x
Hi Carolyn---just discovered your videos a few weeks ago and enjoy them immensely! I have returned to xstitch after putting it away for good some 30 years ago! lol. I guess the pendulum has swung back and I have been working on a few projects. My goodness, cross stitch has certainly changed in those intervening years! Hoping to begin Serenity Harbors soon...very ambitious project (not like HAED) but a big project for me nonetheless!!!!! Judy
Judy Gvili Thanks so much Judy. Yes it certainly has changed a lot. I was lucky enough to purchase a large stash of cross stitch magazines dating back from the 90s and a lot has changed, even from then! I just looked up that design and it's really lovely.... 12 parts in the series.... that should keep you busy for awhile :) Thank you so much for watching, and commenting :) Happy stitching :) X
Thanks for your help. I also have a 22 count around here and am sure I have a piece of 18 count to practice on. I would like to do full crosses as that is what I am used to doing in most of my stitching. I will test it out and let you know what I choose to do. I plan to start this piece on the day of the summer solstice here in No. America - USA. June 21st or so. I watch all of your videos, but haven't ventured into doing any myself. Thinking about it though.😘
E.F. Bauer I wish you the best of luck with whatever you choose. Make sure you're completely happy with it because you will be stitching it for a very long time. You definitely should do a video... it's lot's of fun, and the community here is awesome! Everyone is so friendly and helpful... I love it. Have a great day and happy stitching :) x
I never liked white either. I had someone tell me they use anchor for their white and they prefer anchor white and i have substituted anchor white for dmc and i think i do like their white floss better. Maybe give it a go sometime and see what you think Carolyn. Great video, great projects. Still binging my way to the present and loving it. Your the 4th stitcher i've enjoyed binging. Laughing about still in 2015! But loving it. Can't wait to catch up. Patty.
All of your projects are so lovely! I love that biscornu pattern. I'm doing the When Barnabee met Bella biscornu by Just Nan and I've been loving it :)
khricket That's ok... I know a lot of stitchers use Instagram, so I just thought I'd ask. I don't actually think I have any Just Nan designs in my stash - and I know I haven't stitched any.... yet hahaha
Hi Carolyn, I was happy to have today off from work so I could do a tiny bit of stitching and watch you and listen to you talk about your work, your love of this art sure shows through your presentations to us. The more I watch you, the more I want to try different things in the embroidery world. Quilting had been my passion for years, but I'm getting swept away to cross stitch right now. Waiting for a delivery today for a pattern from "Scarlet Quince" Have you done any of those patterns? Lots of blended threads, but I'm determined to make it. I'd love any tips you may have on them.
Pamela Nesler Oh that's so sweet Pamela - thank you! I do love cross stitch and I'm so happy that I have such wonderful people I can now talk to about it. I know you all will never get sick of hearing what I'm stitching and why I like it and why I need this fabric and cotton etc etc.... my family on the other hand don't really understand my obsession LOL! I adore Quilting! When I go to expo's and stitching shows I make a beeline straight for the quilting displays and I really enjoy looking at them up close. Sometimes I'm lucky enough to meet the designer and ask them questions. One day I guess I'll try it myself, but for now cross stitch consumes all my free time. I have heard of Scarlet Quince only because they have a page on the internet discussing stitch techniques.... in fact I looked at their method of Pin Stitch! I had no idea they made patterns so I won't be able to offer any advice on their designs, sorry. I do love designs with blended threads though - I just love the colour effect they give. Pin Stitch would be a great way to secure the start of your stitching with blended threads because you won't be able to use the loop method - that's probably the only tip I can think of right now. (I have a video on Pin Stitch, if you didn't already know). Thanks so much for watching and for your very kind comments. Happy stitching :) x
That biscornu is gorgeous!!!! Thank you so much for discussing continental stitching! My Butterfly Forest had so many half stitches in the background and I was wondering why my finished piece is soooo distorted. Wish I would've known this sooner :(
Calico Thanks so much! Oh no.... will washing and stretching fix it? I've done plenty of larger designs with tent stitching for the background effect and never had it distort before. I really hope you get it sorted out. Happy stitching :) x
Washing and stretching helped a lot but it's still not the greatest. I will have to do some creative finishing ( another cushion!!) I forgot to say how much I enjoyed your animal pictures
Calico Hmmm that's a shame, but I'm sure you'll figure something out :) Thanks, I'm not the best photographer in the world, but I do really like that photo of the hippo with his mouth open LOL! Take care :) x
Another wonderful video! Thank you for all the effort you put into them. Your CCN Cottages of the month are really pretty. I remember when you did your first one you said it had turned out bigger than you expected so you were undecided how to finish them, but that you had some ideas in mind. Would love to know what you came up with.
Tara Ward Hi Tara, I think I've decided to turn them into flat folds. I don't want the walls in my house to be completely covered in frames, so the idea of being able to put something out on a table or dresser and change it each month, sounds like a good plan. I have a few other things to get out the way first, and then I'll make one and do a tutorial on it. Thanks so much for watching and happy stitching :) x
What fabric count are you using on the HAED Bath Time? And is your tent stitch 1 over 1 or 2 over 1? I am preparing to start a small one later this month. I am contemplating using the tent stitch on 28 count even weave 1 over 1. Also wondering since it is my first HAED maybe I should use a larger count fabric with 2 strands. It is only a 10" x 10" design on recommended 25 count fabric. Ant suggestions are appreciated.
E.F. Bauer Hi! I'm doing it 2 over 1 on 28 count. I have enjoyed it so far but now that I've done quite a bit I feel it's a little too bulky for my liking. I would like to try my next HAED on 25 count 2 over 1 and see if I feel happier with that coverage. The best advice I can give you is to try some test stitching on different counts to see what you like best, as well as different types of fabric. I did start my Dragon on linen initially and hated it but I've noticed a lot of stitchers use evenweave, such as Lugana. It's a personal preference really. Some people like it to be quite bulky and full and others are happy with a little bit of fabric showing through. I'm trying to find something in-between. This is my second HAED and my first was done on 18 count Aida 2 over 1 full crosses, which I absolutely loved. I wanted to reduce the finished size of this particular project and also reduce the time to stitch it which is why I'm trying it this way. The tent stitch is definitely quicker, but as I said in the video you need to be a little more careful with how you complete the stitches. If you haven't already, I also suggest joining the HAED bulletin board - the link is on the left hand side of their home page. On there you will find a huge forum where all the HAED questions have been answered and you can view progress and completed designs with all different counts and stitches imaginable to help you make up your mind. Should you have any questions they will answer them on there too. The members are all experienced HAED stitchers and I would trust their advice over mine, as I feel I'm still learning also. Hope this all helps a little and you find something you enjoy stitching on. Happy stitching :) x
Love your video Carolyn! And I loved doing the sal with you and the crafty curator!! We will have to do another sometime. Sallie is not an ffo yet, still waiting to find a pretty frame. I can't wait to watch your tutorials! Especially the one on tenting for haeds. I would like to know if you have to make 4 stitches to match one block on the pattern? Or do you just do one tent stitch to match one pattern stitch? Your projects are beautiful as always! Bonnie certainly was generous as you say! Your prize was beautiful!
Tina Healey Hey Tina! It was great stitching along with you both as well - I agree, we'll have to do it again sometime. For the tent stitch I just stitch as I would for a normal parking technique working from top to bottom in the direction of the continental tent stitch diagram - I just take note of whether I'm stitching an odd or even row at the time and what direction that row should go in. For solitary stitches on a row - again I take note of whether it's an odd or even row and which direction that stitch should be placed. Does that make sense? It's so hard writing what you actually do, that's why I like to do tutorial videos and show it instead. I don't even know if the technique I use is correct, but there's no more distortion, so I'm happy with that. Bonnie was very naughty! Stitchers really are the BEST kind of people in this world. Thanks for watching and happy stitching :) x
I have just had to go and find the issue of Cross Stitch Collection with the giraffes in and download it as I just love that chart. I just hope I don't find it hidden away somewhere if I bought it previously :-) Thanks for enabling x
I have to agree with giraffe's being one of the most majestic fascinating animals on this earth, they are my favorite exotic animal (I love bunny's too) and I have had a screen saver of a similar picture of a momma giraffe and her baby on my computer for a year, my daughter just put up her own screen saver and I have lost it, but it was almost the same position, and am wondering if the designer used that picture to recreate her stitching design. I look forward to your tutorials, as I am pretty new to all this, I dabble in cross stitch and have never done specialty designs. I just ordered my first specialty threads and hand dye'd cloth from Mo, never done anything like THAT either, pretty much stuck to what I could find at JoAnn's. Thanks for the updates, fun to watch your progress. Keeping us motivated!
Tina Fisher Hi Tina - Hmmm I wonder if that's where she got the design too. I only discovered her from the Cross Stitch Collection magazine, but she also has many books on Jungle, Safari, Animal Collection and even flowers. There are quite a few talented animal designers out there, but she's by far my favourite. I can't wait to see this design stitched up and I hope it's even better than I think it will be. I'm so glad you find the tutorials helpful. This community is amazing for introducing new ideas, techniques, and supplies. I remember seeing the hand dyed fabric for the first time too and thinking "Oooh I have to get me some of that!" LOL. Thanks so much for watching and happy stitching :) x
Great video once again!!! Love your biscornu. I look forward to that tutorial.. Did you hand sew it??? Stupid question I know!! Lol... Love the pictures at the end!! Those giraffes are adorable. Is that the late great crocodile hunters Zoo??? Sorry I don't know the name of his Zoo.
Dee Stitcher Thanks so much Dee! Yes I did hand sew it, using little whip stitches which I found strangely addictive! At least I had the stitches there to guide me - without stitches or holes my hand stitching skills are otherwise very dismal LOL! Steve Irwin?... no, his zoo is in Queensland, but I have been there and it's pretty amazing. These pictures were taken at our local zoo in South Australia and it was a prize I won in a competition. I think you can actually purchase tickets to these types of encounters too. It was really awesome getting that close! Happy stitching :) x
Love your videos! I wish I could stitch as much as you do! I had a quick question - when you do tent stitching on your HAED, do you increase the number or strands you use? Or do you still do 2 over 1? Thanks in advance!
Sarah Wright Hi Sarah, If you're asking if you increase the number of strands compared to stitching it full crosses... then the answer is yes. So for 25 count the suggestion is to stitch it 1 over 1 full crosses, but if you wanted to do tent stitching then you would stitch 2 over 1. Obviously the number of strands you use is personal preference and there is no right or wrong number to use. Some people are fussy with fabric showing through (I know I am) but I've seen other HAEDs stitched with a lot of the white fabric showing through - and they're happy with that so that's all that matters. The best advice I can give you is to do some test stitching to see what YOU like and what YOU enjoy - that's all that matters. It has to be fun and enjoyable for you otherwise you won't see it through until the end... and that would be a shame. Thanks for watching and happy stitching :) x
Thank you! I am just about to start my first HAED and I think I want to do it tent stitch, but I wasn't completely clear on how to do it, so thank you so much!
I'm exactly the same with white! And a few other light colours. Great to know I'm not the only one :) I'm still binge watching your videos - apologies for appearing as a creeper who comments everywhere where possible ;) I love your videos! And I want to stitch, stitch, stitch. During last 2 days I had far too many starts and plans - and I love it! @dobbyak
Angelia Batson Hi Angelia - I make time LOL! I stitch every night after dinner, until bedtime. It relaxes me and helps relieve my stress. I'm not very good at dealing with stress and I suffer from PTSD due to a past incident in my life. Stitching keeps the stress at a manageable level. If I can't stitch one night, because I have to go somewhere for example, then the following day I can feel the extra stress building up inside me. So basically, stitching keeps me happy and while I'm happy so is everyone else in my house LOL. I have never been more serious about my stitching than when I started Blue Dragon.... from that point on it has become a regular thing in my life and I hope to be able to continue until I can no longer. Thank you so much for watching and your kind words - it means a lot. Happy stitching :) x
I think that the Blue Dragon is beautiful. I will have to make stitching a priority...heaven knows I can use stress relief. I just started HAED Old World Map. Maybe I can get it done before I retire!
Beautiful stitching as always. That biscornu was just gorgeous! Looking forward to more tutorial videos and I am one of those people who adores long videos. Best excuse ever to grab my stitching and sit down for an hour!
Chloe Crawford Aww thanks so much Chloe - I tried to pack a lot into it to keep it interesting :) Thanks for watching and happy stitching :) x
Take care
Hugs
Amanda from UK

Full credit to you for doing those stitches individually - I will be thinking of you next time I'm trying to avoid it ;)
Thank you very much for your kind words, they really are appreciated.
Gorgeous finishes as always! Glad to hear your shoulder is on the mend. Beautiful biscornu! Thanks for making videos, you are a wealth of knowledge!
sara bounds Thanks so much Sara!
Your photos are amazing I will have to show my daughter Robyn the hippo pictures as she has collected hippo since she was a little girl and still does and she is 28 now :)
hugs, Patty BC Canada
Patty Smith Hi Patty :) Thank you so much! We were very fortunate to get up so close to those incredible animals. The giraffes were so stunning up close, and those eyes and eyelashes!!!!!! Brutus the hippo was VERY smelly and I was grateful he held his mouth open long enough for that close up photo. You just can't get photo's that close when they're in their normal exhibit at the zoo, obviously for protection of the public. It was a great day out and one we'll never forget. I hope your daughter enjoys the photo's :)
Thanks for watching and happy stitching :) x
Beautiful finishes, I love your needleworker and your little life's a stitch; it is a really sweet design, I absolutely adore the giraffe pattern you are going to be doing, the fabric choice is going to look amazing with the giraffes,I can't wait to see that being stitched up!!x
Pearlinstitches Thanks so much! I'm so excited to start the giraffes that I'm almost ready to drop everything and just do it now... but I'm trying very hard to be patient. I hope it looks as good as it does in my imagination :) Thanks for watching and happy stitching :) x
Giraffes!! That must have been so amazing. They're beautiful animals. :D
Emily Chadwick It was certainly a day we will both never forget! They have the most amazing eyes and eyelashes :)
Thanks so much for all your beautiful comments Emily - I truly appreciate them all :) x
Because of your video on parking HAED I have returned to x stitching with my daughter. 💕
Can't wait for tent stitch video with parking.
Organic Granny Thanks so much! Haha my first laugh of the day! :)))))
Fantastic finishes as usual, Carolyn. Love all your instruction videos and can't wait for the biscornu video.
Febby Marsh Thanks so much! I hope to work on 2 tutorials this weekend - the biscornu will be one of them :) Happy stitching :) x
Beautiful stitching ! Glad your shoulder is better .. Love all your videos!
priscilla blain Thank you so much Priscilla and thanks for watching :) x
It was really amazing getting so close to the giraffe's - I loved them before but now even more so :) I might have to look for a hippo design next :)
Happy stitching :) x
Jodi Schell Half price!!! OMG - you lucky thing you! Now you have no excuses to stitch them up.
Thanks so much for watching and happy stitching :) x
it was a pleasure to watch this video )) thank you so much )) a LOVELY design with giraffs !!! i love it ))
i like listening to your plans ... i enjoy making plans .. unfortunately i don't fullfil most of them (( i am glad you do !!
Thank you SO much, I can actually get excited about this design now :)
OK so I'd like to share that in my video when I discuss that project and I'd like to credit you for that information (with your permission), but I'm wondering how I actually say your name???
Thank you for subscribing..still need a lot of work in there. Enjoy your day.
angelstitch Will do - you too :) x
Lovely video - I look forward to them since I'm always learning something new, whether it's how to do something or a new tool to add to the wish list. Apparently, my natural bent is to alternate between regular & continental tent stitch. I wonder if that has any effect on the fabric - I haven't noticed since it's my first time tent stitching & this project is on Aida...
Glad to hear your shoulder is on the mend & thanks for sharing your zoo pictures!
+mleung25 Thank you so much! I think we're continually learning with this hobby - there always seems to be something new or a new trend :)
Hmmmm not sure, but I think Aida would definitely help in not distorting the fabric.... something that is more and more evident with my current HAED :(
Still having shoulder issues...
LOL
Thanks so much for watching and happy stitching :) x
I've never done Parking. This is the first time I've heard about it. I will have to do further research on it.
Great update - love the needle worker pieces 💜
Two Purple Threads Thank you. I love that it was a super quick design too - it's a great feeling getting those finishes out of the way. Happy stitching :) x
I so enjoy your videos and learn so much from you
Sheila Cagle Thank you Sheila :) x
You do a lot of stitching in one month. That biscornu is so nice, lovely present.
Milda V.
I love the biscornu, I am going to have to do that one, just beautiful!!
Coleen Perkins Thanks Coleen - it was an absolute joy to stitch and I highly recommend it. Thanks for watching and happy stitching :) x
I love your Biscornu! The colors are so cute. I have been wanting to stitch one of these but have not yet had time
Rachel Morris Thanks Rachel - it really was a delight to stitch and I'm so happy that I didn't stuff up the assembly LOL! Happy stitching :) x
Oh wow the biscornu is amazing ! Love the video !
A Needlepoint In Time Thanks so much Valerie - I'm just happy I didn't stuff up the assembly LOL! Happy stitching :) x
Loved this video. Wonderful explanation.
Donna Ross Thank you Donna :) x
Wonderful video ! many thanks for this moment....have a nice day
Sebastian Vestae Thanks so much Sebastian :)
Patty.
Gorgeous finishes - Thanks for sharing. As feedback, I don't mind the long videos :)
***** Thanks so much Joanne :) x
All of your projects are so lovely! I love that biscornu pattern. I'm doing the When Barnabee met Bella biscornu by Just Nan and I've been loving it :)
khricket I just looked it up....it's gorgeous! And I love the buttons!!! Are you on Instagram?... I'd love to see a picture of it stitched up. :) x
Just Nan is one of my favourite designers. Sorry,I don't have instagram; I don't really have time to update things like that ;)
khricket That's ok...
Nicola Maltby Always happy to enable :) I hope you don't mind confetti stitches, because that design is full of it! Enjoy :) xx
Sarah Wright My pleasure Sarah... best of luck with it all :) x
opps forgot love the pictures at the end wonderful animals
Sheila Cagle Thank you :) x
Just watching this as I am battling my way through loads of snowflakes! White, off white, ecru....😫
@dobbyak

Kenneth Pasion You're welcome Kenneth - I hope I answered your questions. Happy stitching :) x
I wish that I was as disciplined as you are about my stitching. Your work is incredible. How do you find the time to work on all of your WIPs?
Angelia Batson Oh that's one of my favourites! As I tell people - it's just like counting sheep, only you're counting stitches :)
Very true!
I just love your biscornu, it came beautiful ?
Kathy Baker Thank you so much Kathy - Mum and I are VERY happy with it, and I can't wait to do another. Happy stitching :) x
