this reminded me of the Winged game between hera and vinch in TCI where Vinchs cataphracts got wrecked by Heras shotels
Catas are expensive, they can only capitalize with logistica outside of armor upgrades. Ignoring armor is the best advantage against that much armor.

well I think Cataphracts are too expensive for what they offer, (and Urumi are quite good)
but they number of Catas were nowhere close to what they should to make a difference. If there were more I think the result will be much different.
obviously, but the thing is its very difficult to do so. Every single one of Cataphract upgrades are way more expensive then Urumi swordmans, and even the unit itself gold cost wise cost around 4 times more.

At multiple points he could have just galloped all his Cataphracts into your eco to be fair.
Well, it was more about how matador expected better result so he did not mass up.
20 cataphracts will still probably smash 40 urumis EASILY. But what happened is that matador never massed them as he expected 10 more or less to clean house.
That said it is only natural to tun out of gold faster if you spam catas. That's why we mass, attack with a big pack/punch and end it in one sweep if we use heavy cavs.
Definitely Red played too passive, in some moments he could have snowballed and stall Viper's economy... As he said, catas are stronger in low numbers... And skirms are low damage output but hard to clean....
@@ryanforgo3500 Not easily. Catas without logistica will lose to wootz steel elite urumis. Even FU catas aren't great against urumis because they burn so much more gold. Seriously, there is a reason Viper likes them. They so strong it's not even funny.
If you want to take on urumis in melee, you need elite battle elephants or war elephants. Or, just make arbs. Arbs with trash in front will melt urumis.
@@souloftheworld9810 He had logistica, but issue that most of gold was burned trading catas vs halbs and no gold left to deal with urumi transition. With ratio 1 to 2 catas should do well vs urumi.
True that in melee only elephants, samurai, catas, leitis, poles cav can beat urumi.
@@valger3652 @valger3652 He took too long and burned too many resources by the time he got FU catas. Catas will kill urumis when you have 1 cata for 2 urumi. But it's not overwhelming, and it's worth it in terms of gold cost imo.
Also, samurai will lose to urumi when you consider everything, and leitis are only good once you have 4 relics.
idk about pole cav, but just mix in halbs in the worst case.
All this is to say, don't try to take on dravidians in melee in late game unless you are one of like 3 civs.

To be fair, I don't think Matador had Logistica. I tried to look really closely the final battle and in my opinion his cataphracts didn't do any trample damage. Would be interesting to see if that changes anything.
He did. Look at 39:10 in 0.25 speed, an urumi in the front had his life slowly decreasing

to be fair even 200 villagers will overwhelm 20 catas, specially when viper is playing the vills. i m surprised that 80 urumi almost died to skirms so badly ... hera was right about these urumi boys 😅
he never really was able to answer to your trebs either ... loosing castles, tcs will always set you back no matter who you are and what civ you play.
Try any infantry against catas, hand cannons and Skirms.. you’ll see the different result

I think the next evolution in micro should be better villager usage: walling friendlies, walling enemies, blocking flanks, influencing movements, forward buildings, repairing siege, and collecting resources when necessary. It might cause more usage of ranged units, but I think it would be interesting, especially with Inca (or whoever gets the armor upgrades.) I should try it myself, but I’m not skilled enough to do it well.
yeah the number of games where a archer player get caught by cavalry in open field and got no villagers to build choke points

Any unit will win if you spam enough of them. This only proves that most recourses win. And how come trebs sudenly counts as infantry😎
Many units possible because urumis are cheap.. did you ever thought about that.. try that many units for other infantry.. you will spend 3x gold more
@@VickyCruz Of course the prize matters Don't be silly. But sometimes you have lots of gold and then it matters less than the number of units you can train. Mostly but not always resource management is important it's a big part of the game. 😎

Uh oh. Hope Hera has the maturity not to respond in kind which could result in a feud. This is kinda nasty. Unusual for the aoe community. You guys all get along and we like that. Different from other esports games. This could force pro players to take sides. Make your point ok. De-Face someone else multiple times? Mmm. Unnecessary. A bitter champion seeing his throne slowly changing hands? Tarnishes the legacy and retirement. Don’t get me wrong. Viper is *far* from finished. But the writing is on the wall we can all see.
