One thing you didn't mention was that Standard Oil standardized refined products, hence the name. Refined products were all over the map as far as quality and grade, Rockefeller developed the proper grade for Automobiles, for example. The standardization was a big part of his success.
Time will only tell that this ad transition and promotion was one of the best of its time...If Rockefeller would have seen this ad he would've bought the entire company and add it to his empire.

Funny how although Standard Oil had a monopoly, it was the most efficient and cheapest way of extracting oil, transporting it, refining it and distributing it. During this, he paid workers more than the competition and continued innovating. I believe government broke up Standard Oil before there was a legitimate reason for it.
