Interest rate is currently at 4.75%(8th rate hike since March last year) Inflation at 7% and mortgage rates is at over 7.5% but yet minimum wage remains the same and my retirement portfolio has suffered tremendously these past years, so my question is how do senior citizens retire and live off such unstable economy. The long term game is obviously not for me at this point.
My belief is that making a wise investment is a fantastic way to save money for the future as well as a way to generate passive income. Those who make poor mistakes early in life regret them later in life. But, if done alone, investing may be challenging and risky. For this reason, I suggest consulting experts for advice (financial advisors). The difficulty lies in effectively employing it, not just watching videos and reading investing books.

Erm, the problem with the UK's relationship with the ERM was that the UK joined at the wrong time at the wrong rate. Had the UK been in at the beginning or if it had joined at a more realistic rate then it would have been better able to resist the forces of the currency speculators. What was done to the UK was later done to various other currencies after they picked off sterling. George Soros was only one speculator amongst many, including many UK banks.

The US-Stock Mrkt had been on it’s longest bull-run in history, so the mass hysteria and panic is relatable, considering we’re not accustomed to such troubled mrkts, but there are avenues lurking around if you know where to look, I’ve netted over $850k in the past 10months and it wasn't some rocket-science strat. Shorting a position does not mean you are responsible for crash. It was going to crash anyways. All he did was sell at a price and bought back at a lower price. He was not the one that asked both governments to set bullshit economic polices. 🤷♂️
My parents had 4 houses at this point in the 90’s, my dad is a business man and the government of the time said borrow, borrow, borrow. The increased interest rate made mortgages go from 500 odd a month to 2000 overnight, I think the guy is a monster.

@@hunchanchoc8418 It wasn't the start of Brexit, but it did make the British extremely sceptical of joining a single currency. We were clearly damaged by the Exchange Rate Mechanism but managed to escape because we could devalue the currency. The Euro offers no such escape (as Greece and many other nations have discovered to their detriment). The belief that European projects were the path to prosperity was probably also mortally wounded, with the 2008 financial crisis and subsequent Eurozone crisis being the final straw. Why give up your sovereignty if you don't benefit financially from the new arrangement?

I can't see it ever happening but if I ever start to question my support of President Trump I have only to remind myself of how much George Soros hates him and my support will be renewed. Well with the economy and stocks at where it is now, I'd be disappointed if people weren't making any error on their portfolio at this time, it was much easier to navigate during the bull-run, regardless I still see and read articles of people pulling over $225k by the weeks in trades, how come?

Soros bet "short" not only on the Pound but also on the Lira, sending Italy to the brink of bankruptcy. But this thing Soros and the other speculators could not do with ľ Euro because ľ Euro is a strong and credible currency and because the head of the ECB Mr. Draghi sent a strong and clear signal to the speculators that the Euro would be defended "whatever it takes ". This could not have happened if Italy had been out of the Euro with a weak and continually devalued currency.

Agreed! That statement rings so true, and before the Euro was ratified, there was much opposition to it, especially from the lesser European countries who knew they would take the hit when it failed. Many here in America were bewildered as to how this would work, and doubted its success.

Simply put, England backed their pound by buying it even when it doesn't make sense; everybody knew that the currency had to devalue eventually. The British government was propping up a disingenuous exchange rate, hoping to be right. It would've happened regardless. Soros was the biggest player, but he was far from being the only player. There are a lot of currency arbitrageurs in the world today who bet against fixed exchange rates. It's not immoral so much as verifying the claims of the government.
