2020, and I want to point that XZ Premium is miles ahead in dynamic range.. with the right camera app! Use open camera, turn a log profile on, then let's talk about dynamic range. It's all about what camera app you are using. XZs premium stock app is very limited. Download open canera and in opens a whole new world of features the stock camera app just doesn't have. 4k video with the front facing camera? Yes Way more resolutions with the front facing camera? Of course. Actual HDR photography that's obvious? Yes Professional log profiles and manual focus in video? Yes Options to change bitrate up to an astounding 200000 bitrate, and the phone supporting it in 4k, with log profile on for super dynamic range? Yes It's all down to the camera app. XZ Premium has a really crazy good camera, being hold back by it's limited stock camera app. Seriously high contrast that ends up hurting the image with blown highlights and crushed shadows. Absolutely no manual video options, other than a simple adjuster for colour temperature. No locked exposure and colour temperature, no manual focus, no manual iso, no manual exposure time, no this, no that.. it's garbage! The only thing it has better than open camera? The stabilisation. But it's nothing that can't be fixed afterwards. Nothing can fix crashed shadows and blown out highlights though. XZ Premium owner here.. long time XZ Premium owner. So i know it's capabilities
i think sony win this job cus both of picture and video does not washout, natural color ,more stabilized , do not try to increase iso or something it make picture or video weird color , smoother in term of focus and change exposure, more dynamic range (good for post processing), wind noise reduction , slow motion at 960 fps, predictive hybridge auto focus and predictive capture . all of they will make your video job to be better.
The Sony is better as others have noted, the slightly increased contrast gives a better overall image and clarity, you can see in most of your clips there is greater details and colour correction. The Samsung image is washed out, which is why details seem to be more apparent as opposed to a stronger overall image, plus there is a nasty pink hue. Bit disappointed you mostly appeared to prefer the Samsung image for most of this video when most people especially professionals will tell you the Sony is the superior image.
AuthenTech - Ben Schmanke I saw you have a massive dslr camera in a video, why you didn't use it to compare both cameras to it, then we see which is giving more realistic colors and exposure....
everyone forgets this is the only phone with 4k hdr screen and memory stacked sensor which can do more than just slow motion such as reduce blurr, and predictive capture.
4k hdr screen is pretty much meh at this time its a gimmick the phone always is on fhd 1080p plus resolution unless your viewing 4k content on the phone which is pretty limited right now
You are wrong. The native display of the screen is in 4K HDR (unlike the Z5 premium, which did not have 4k HDR native display). It has a 810 pps pixel density at all times.
I doubt you're gonna read this comment giving how long it's been since this video was uploaded, but I wanted to say this. *When you were showing photos taken by both phones, I don't know if you were aware of this, but if you take a picture with the XZ Premium and there's an area which's pretty dark, you can make the dark/shadowy areas look brighter using Photo editor; just go to Album, click on the picture, and click on the middle icon that looks like a small rectangle with a pencil in it, click Photo editor, and click on the circular icon which's half black and half white with a plus and minus sign on, click Shadows and and with the scale from 0-100, edit it as much as you want.* *And there's only slight difference on both phones in dark areas.*
Dude the xz stabilization is best of its its kind the EIS proved that sony and out match OIS in videos you still see random shake on s8 where as there's little to non on the xz premium i think you're being just a tad bias
Indiappa yeah dynamic range is not that good but not the worst and the weaker low light photos are not because of f2.0, there is no OIS in camera. why I choose XZP as the best camera is because of the natural colours. No point of having even a DSLR if colours are over saturated.
You can fix the saturation by selecting the basic display in the settings menu. Also, OIS is for controlling blurry images not for brightening the scene. It is the aperture size. Bigger the aperture, more the light.
Sony struggles on over exposed whites, there are a lot of flaws on xz P but u can't deny the fact that it really works like a full frame camera, sony's marketing sucks that's why camera and other features are poorly marketed
0:15 look at the upper left corner with the Samsung showing color fringing (teal/purple), not so with the XZ Premium. The S8's sky looks almost grey, whereas the XZ's sky is blueish. Look at the detail in the grass. Check the buildings in the back, all shadows in the S8 picture, nice highlights and contrast in the XZ picture. Funnily, the author doesn't comment on this picture at all, yet praises how much better he likes the S8 camera going forward. I'm getting the XZ Premium, it's a no-brainer for me.
manual mode gives your better result in xperia devices im sony user and auto is really not good if you know how to take photo in manual mode you can kill every smartphone in the world
Hamid Reza thats right. I have the S8 and yeah, manual is better in most but some times you just need the HDR (in manual mode you can not use it, if you can pls tell me how 😂). But the auto mode in day time on the S8 is just so nice.
to use the HDR in manual mode you need to switch the resolution to 8MP (16:9). Or at least in my Z3 works that way. Any other resolution will block the HDR option in manual controls. Try it and give me the feedback :D
Cedric Carlier and if you want best quality of camera in the phone first iphone sec Lg and smasung sony has 3rd camera. Samsung capture more light than sony. By the way toshiba gonna sell their one company SK technology. And sony ganna sell company to america. Because all electronic and car manufacture company invested alot on nuck powerplant.
I prefer Sony but mostly because of the screen ratio of the S8. I bought XZ premium for my wife and we are really satisfied with this purchase. The pictures are really comparable to my SLR camera (also Sony btw :p). Didn't have the time yet to try out the 960 fps mode, so thx very much for your effort. While you were driving the scooter at 1:30, the sound of the S8 looked bettet (less noise). Also - stabilization of the S8 was better at video at 2:10, but the last video showed, that XZ makes it good as well. Great video - short, contentfull and no bs.
Sony uses their dedicated camera processors in their phones named Bravia and a couple other names. It's hardware accelerated post processing. Saturation and contrast with Bravia and they do sharpness with their later engines. It doesn't help purple fringe, soft edges, low light exposure, or grain in any of the cases though. Any of these phones need the free version of Lightroom for noise reduction and colors. If you are in the dark you have to go manual and drop ISO and tune white balance. You can't actually tune physical aperture and exposure on phones apps that claim to, fake it.. Hence white balance in place of aperture and exposure tuning. ISO usually takes care of it though..
When I watched the comparison video on SuperSaf it seemed like the S8 won easily, but on your video I liked the Xperia XZ PREMIUM more often. Very surprised by this.
OIS (in its current implementation) is the enemy of smartphone videos. In fact, even the best OIS cameras like that of Galaxy S8 make picture wobble, while EIS (Google Pixel and OP5) make rock-solid videos.

I prefer the color on S8. And I think the S8 is a bit sharper... On video both are smooth and I was surprised on Sony considering that it only use an EIS. Front facing goes to Sony and man that 960fps Slowmo. Great comparison Sir. Wish for more photos on your next camera comparison. Subscribed
Good video comparison, in the beginning it was tough but the Samsung looked better until you did the selfies at the end and the Sony looked way better. I was shopping today comparing to my LG V30+ and this Sony phone had way better screen and camera... Bought it on the spot from BB. I do like wireless charging though on the Samsung. wish Sony would incorporate this tech into their phones.
video Stabilization - S8 Focus - S8 Sound - S8 camera features - Sony video quality - Comes down to preference IMO Saturation/contrast/color reproduction - Again comes down to preference, I preferred sony's color but felt samsung had better saturation and brightness in the shots Front camera - Sony Verdict - Both or excellent cameras. There's no need to hate or bash the other, just be happy that either phone has a better camera than 95% of the competition

Although the stabilization is a little better on Sony's side, I would choose the S8 being the fact that I don't move around much during filming. I prefer better picture and quality.
It depends on how the actual footage is. Who's closer to the real condition is definitely the better. Why didn't you add samples from big cameras to the comparison?

Inma media So true
XZ Premium Selfie Cam is incredible, it's better than many back cameras of other phones, lol
Marc Moore Agreed, impressive!
Marc Moore seems like they messed up with the camera connections, and wired the opposite way 😁
*THE SONY XPERIA XZ PREMIUM IS THE BEST* 💪
Yeas
And Still!
Written with XzPremium 😀😂
The front facing camera on the Sony is freaking amazing, wow.
Xperia XZ premium Definetly Does Great Job 👌
...at crushing the blacks and reducing detail?? Agreed.
Sony has more accurate colors. Sgs8 has a purple tint which I dislike
Watching in 2019👈.
I love _SONY!_

Sony is crushing it

love the pictures and video from xz premium I just bought a xz1 phone can't wait for it to arrive.
xz premium!
the xz premium has a higher megapixel camera and its hdr look more realistic than cartoony.
XZ Premium
But did you see that sony back cam looked darker...whys that...and in low light, selfies wont be that good...its only a f2.0 lens

in daylight sony is unbeatable.
for low light you need to just use manul mode and adjust settings.
Thariq Mohammed but Samsung Galaxy s8is much better than sony

First time with a Sony cellphone and i love it, i have the Xperia XZs. That 960 fps videos will be hard to beat for a long time.

Sony Xperia XZ premium 😍😍😍 winner
I Recorded a night clip with a cinematic feel around the fire with the S8+ and it looks amazing.
i love xz premium . . . .can u tell me how long sony can record that slowmotion videos at 960 fps that's amazing
I'm using the XZ premium it's literally a split second although you can do it multiple times in a video by repeatedly pressing the button
When I watched the comparison video on SuperSaf it seemed like the S8 won easily, but on your video I liked the Xperia XZ PREMIUM more often. Very surprised by this.

Why don't you do reviewing smartphones? i think the way you review is very detailed

Great review. Thanks!
Just received my XZP yesterday in luminous chrome and these are my first impressions:
Fingerprint scanner: Awesome! Absolutely no problems. Opens the moment I touch it, even from different angles.
Screen brightness: Much, much better than the Z5. Perfect even outside in sunshine (which in fact we have in Denmark right now)
Design: Beautiful. The square design works really good with the improvements to details.
Speed/responsiveness: Crazy :-) Apps open at least twice as fast compared to my Z5.
Battery life: Still running on the charge from yesterday.
In Denmark we get a speed charger and a charging dock included in the package.
XZ Premium overall for me, and im an Nexus/Pixel owner/fan

The colours of s8 are a lot of more beautiful
Watch again; they are washed out.
Samsung's camera is Washed out, and sometimes too saturated lol.
video Stabilization - S8
Focus - S8
Sound - S8
camera features - Sony
video quality - Comes down to preference IMO
Saturation/contrast/color reproduction - Again comes down to preference, I preferred sony's color but felt samsung had better saturation and brightness in the shots
Front camera - Sony
Verdict - Both or excellent cameras. There's no need to hate or bash the other, just be happy that either phone has a better camera than 95% of the competition
You're right, BOTH are excellent and can't go wrong ;)
Sony ♥
Watching on my sony xz premium and i love it 😃

Beautiful landscapes.. in which place of the world is it buddy?
