Karl, since gamma radiation is around us at all times. My theory is that, Hulk absorbers the gamma radiation around him converting it to mass and strength, releasing it back into the environment when returning to Banner, assuming that levels stay within normal levels thus not giving radiation poisoning to everyone around him. That's my theory anyway, thoughts.

In a few stories the hulk get's much larger when absorbing gamma radiation. I remember an episode of the animated Avengers show in which he absorbed gamma radiation just by being near it, it was drawn to him. So maybe it's sort of like how super man gets more powerful when absorbing solar radiation. Hulk pulls in ambient gamma radiation. The result is not just a massive increase in power but in physical mass as well. The angrier he gets the more he pulls in and the bigger he gets.
I need a comic where the earth is falling into the sun because the Hulk has made too many massive jumps over the years. Just slightly pushing it out of orbit around the sun each jump little by little.

The Hulk applies a force to the planet, and the planet applies an equal but opposite force to the Hulk. That force compared to Hulk's mass is immense, so he goes very far into the air. The Earth is heavier, so that force only nudges it a tiny bit. The Earth's gravitational force pulls the Hulk back down, and the Hulk's gravitational force pulls the Earth back up with equal but opposite force. Both the Hulk and the Earth return to where they were, as the Earth isn't pulled very fast but it never went very far to begin with, as opposed to the Hulk who goes up really far and comes down really fast. As for jumping along the Earth, the horizontal momentum imparted on the Hulk and the opposite momentum imparted on the Earth make the Hulk move along its surface. Once he hits the ground, he's transferring that momentum back into the Earth in order to stop, and the momentum cancels out so in the end both objects stop moving relative to each other.

Loved the vid! Reminds me of my early teenage years spent trawling this very wiki... before TvTropes claimed me... oh man I should (definitely not) go back to those sites. Interestingly, as to the "always angry" thing, it's a trauma thing. Bruce has actual PTSD, flashbacks and all, with a complication something like (but obviously quite different in manifestation) from DID. Hulk isn't some monster that lives inside Bruce; he's a suppressed moment, a memory of anger and pain during Bruce's early childhood so he could survive the experience. That's why the best Hulks either have had a chance to develop as a person outside of Bruce and integrate with the adult self (Planet Hulk) or occur during a period of Bruce treating him as an angry kid who has every reason to smash stuff (but doesn't really understand the whole "ten foot tall behemoth" thing) rather than a monster, that has other emotions and shouldn't just be used as a weapon (presumably the 5-year-gap from Spoilerville). Hulk ends up seeing Bruce as a captor and abuser just like their dad was, and Bruce sees Hulk as an overbearing rage monster... just like their dad was. Both of them are wrong, but neither of them treat themselves healthily (and when they actually do develop as people the comic writers enforce the bloody status quo again). The Gamma powers were a convenient outlet for these personalities, and the whole immortality/strength/shapeshifting thing was claimed by Bruce's various suppressed selves (as far as I can tell). The Hulk did save Bruce, or rather was a coping mechanism, and Hulk exactly long before he was a ten foot tall green muscleman with irradiated blood and a massive atomic-induced headache. This is why Jen and the other Hulks don't have much of a rage thing outside of their own personalities or immediately post-powerup. Joe, the Grey Hulk, is actually a version of Bruce from his similarly-suppressed but much "calmer" teenage years, hence being a mob boss rather than a world-ender.
What I've always been curious about is, when they chose gamma radiation as the catalyst for all this, did they know alot about gamma or did they just think it sounded cool? Cause, for me, it's interesting that the strongest character, the one described as immeasurable was created way back then. When you consider that to this day, the gamma burst coming from supernovae, neutron stars, binary stars, and the occasional burst from the center of black holes, is the single most destructive force in the universe.
If I remember right, it's said there's like a parallel world or dimension or something that is just pure gamma radiation or some supernatural gamma force and that Bruce absorb's to then become the Hulk hence the change in size and it's also how the Hulk gets bigger the angrier he is as he just absorbs more energy from this other dimension.
There was an episode of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, where Hawkeye lays hulk out with one punch...by telling him that he is going to do it and making Hulk laugh so hard that he turns back into Banner and gets punched out.

For what i remembered there was a convoluted explanation about how The Hulk absorved Gamma radiation acroos the universe and converted that radiation in mass.
From what I can gather, the way Bruce's transformation into the hulk works (for the most part) is as follows: - the transformation is triggered by either A: a reaction in his nervous system, or B: due to overwhelming psychological issues. - when triggered, the transformation causes a chain reaction in his body. Similar to how when certain things, like exercise, exertion of force, or stress/nervousness cause the average person's heart rate to increase, when something like this happens to Bruce, that increase in heart rate, and by extension the increase in blood pumping through him, causes his cells to react to the gamma radiation that lays dormant inside his body, and said gamma radiation causes his blood cells, muscle tissue, and organs to expand in size and change color.
Badass Hulk Moment; One time Hulk was fighting Black Bolt, whose mere whisper can obliterate mountains. So the two faced off, Black Bolt whispered and leveled the entire area in front of him including the Hulk. Just as BB turned around to do his victory walk-off, there was a voice that said, "I didn't come here for a whisper. I wanna hear you scream." And the Hulk shot out from the rubble and beat the holy bejeezus out of Black Bolt.
Hulk also acts as a shield for bruce. If he's in a hostile environment that banner cant survive in, he'll stay the hulk, calm or not. Planet hulk is a great example of this

Interestingly, as to the "always angry" thing, it's a trauma thing. Bruce has actual PTSD, flashbacks and all, with a complication something like (but obviously quite different in manifestation) from DID. Hulk isn't some monster that lives inside Bruce; he's a suppressed moment, a memory of anger and pain during Bruce's early childhood so he could survive the experience. That's why the best Hulks either have had a chance to develop as a person outside of Bruce and integrate with the adult self (Planet Hulk) or occur during a period of Bruce treating him as an angry kid who has every reason to smash stuff (but doesn't really understand the whole "ten foot tall behemoth" thing) rather than a monster, that has other emotions and shouldn't just be used as a weapon (presumably the 5-year-gap from Spoilerville). Hulk ends up seeing Bruce as a captor and abuser just like their dad was, and Bruce sees Hulk as an overbearing rage monster... just like their dad was. Both of them are wrong, but neither of them treat themselves healthily (and when they actually do develop as people the comic writers enforce the bloody status quo again).
The Gamma powers were a convenient outlet for these personalities, and the whole immortality/strength/shapeshifting thing was claimed by Bruce's various suppressed selves (as far as I can tell). The Hulk did save Bruce, or rather was a coping mechanism, and Hulk exactly long before he was a ten foot tall green muscleman with irradiated blood and a massive atomic-induced headache. This is why Jen and the other Hulks don't have much of a rage thing outside of their own personalities or immediately post-powerup.
Joe, the Grey Hulk, is actually a version of Bruce from his similarly-suppressed but much "calmer" teenage years, hence being a mob boss rather than a world-ender.
What I've always been curious about is, when they chose gamma radiation as the catalyst for all this, did they know alot about gamma or did they just think it sounded cool? Cause, for me, it's interesting that the strongest character, the one described as immeasurable was created way back then. When you consider that to this day, the gamma burst coming from supernovae, neutron stars, binary stars, and the occasional burst from the center of black holes, is the single most destructive force in the universe.
I feel like this is the perfect format for you to finally gush about the Metroid series :D
If I remember right, it's said there's like a parallel world or dimension or something that is just pure gamma radiation or some supernatural gamma force and that Bruce absorb's to then become the Hulk hence the change in size and it's also how the Hulk gets bigger the angrier he is as he just absorbs more energy from this other dimension.
I mean, Scott Summers fires punch dimension lasers, maybe there's a gamma dimension he bulks up from, lol.

There was an episode of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, where Hawkeye lays hulk out with one punch...by telling him that he is going to do it and making Hulk laugh so hard that he turns back into Banner and gets punched out.

For what i remembered there was a convoluted explanation about how The Hulk absorved Gamma radiation acroos the universe and converted that radiation in mass.
From what I can gather, the way Bruce's transformation into the hulk works (for the most part) is as follows:
- the transformation is triggered by either A: a reaction in his nervous system, or B: due to overwhelming psychological issues.
- when triggered, the transformation causes a chain reaction in his body. Similar to how when certain things, like exercise, exertion of force, or stress/nervousness cause the average person's heart rate to increase, when something like this happens to Bruce, that increase in heart rate, and by extension the increase in blood pumping through him, causes his cells to react to the gamma radiation that lays dormant inside his body, and said gamma radiation causes his blood cells, muscle tissue, and organs to expand in size and change color.

One time Hulk was fighting Black Bolt, whose mere whisper can obliterate mountains.
So the two faced off, Black Bolt whispered and leveled the entire area in front of him including the Hulk.
Just as BB turned around to do his victory walk-off, there was a voice that said, "I didn't come here for a whisper. I wanna hear you scream."

Hulk lands on Venus, calms down, turns back into Bruce, brain melts out his ears.
Hulk also acts as a shield for bruce. If he's in a hostile environment that banner cant survive in, he'll stay the hulk, calm or not. Planet hulk is a great example of this
