Just made my skirt - and I used material that my mom (who has passed) had kept - so it is extra special! The video and your instructions were both excellent. If I can do it - anyone can! Thank you so very much! I will wear it proudly and pass on this video.
I had been thinking on doing this one for a while, today I finally Made it and I'm so glad I did it! For the first time I actually like something I sew. Thanks u so mucho for sharing. Greetings from Argentina.
I used this tutorial to make the cutest skirt just now! I added a little button-hole on the side to put the tie piece through so the waist would lie flat all the way around.
Lisa from And Sew On wanted to spread the sewing love and so here I am :-) This skirt looks very cute on you and will definitely suit lots of other young people out there! Keep sharing and enjoy the sewing adventure!
I stumbled on your videos from my recommended feed and I’m glad I did. Great tutorial, very clear and I like how you explain things multiple times with good camera angles because it makes it easier for beginners like me to know exactly what to do. Keep up the wonderful work!!
i’m very late to this video haha, but i just made this skirt and i absolutely love it! I’m literally a beginner sewer and i couldn’t be happier w the result :) I love all your sewing tutorials actually, i find them so easy to follow. I’ve also recently made ur bucket hat and have had so many compliments on it, of course allowing me to show off and say “i made it myself!” lol. Keep doing what ur doing please :))) x
instant subscribe after the silk bias skirt video! I'm becoming increasingly mindful in the way that I source my clothing and after doing a pinterest board of my current style identity, going shopping and realizing that what I love is either ridiculously overpriced or isn't in stores at all, and getting inspired by well thought out videos like yours, I'm giving the old sewing machine another try! I hope you get a ton more audience soon, your content is as fresh and well explained, visually gorgeous and equally relevant to the urging need for sustainability in fashion.
I love love LOVE reading this!!! Thank you so much for your support and can totally empathise on not being satisfied with what's available in most stores and wanting to be more conscious with where we source it from. Can't wait to see what you make x x
I’m going adapt this make a traders money belt....I’ll add Kam snaps instead of long ties and do a patch pocket on back for phone, patch pocket on front for business cards, and a double zipped pocket for folding money and coin respectively....will use remnant pieces so it’s all in different colours/patterns!
Made this skirt out of a knit wool and love it! However, the straps are hilariously long so I had to shorten them after the fact. Wrapped just like you did, they're dragging on the floor! Had to make some other small adjustments bc my hip to waist ratio is larger than yours, I think. Overall, I'm loving going back and forth between your tutorials and using patterns from Seamwork.
Well done, Lisa! And Sew On sent me here and I'm so glad I followed her advise. I enjoyed your video, it's so inspiring to know that young people promote conscious sewing
Love to see new sewing blogs - I've arrived via Lisa from And Sew On and have subscribed to your channel and love your ideas. Well done and good luck for future blogs x
Really liked this tutorial. Lisa from And Sew On recommended your channel and I'm glad she did. You have a new subscriber. Looking forward to checking out your other videos.
Pro tip: cut a long strip of fabric (1,5 of the length of the whole skirt), gather it and sew it on the bottom edge- a easy, trendy ruffled edge skirt☺️✌🏼
Thank you for this tutorial! When I try and tie up my skirt it either bunches up at the front or back (due to it getting loose). Do you have any tips when wrapping the skirt to help with this? Thanks!
Question: I am wanting to make this and use a sear sucker material. It is really thin and very see through. When cutting out the big rectangle/ main skirt piece, can I fold in half to make it more opaque?
ooo that material will come up great! I've made a wrap skirt out of a white linen before and because it was going to be see through I just doubled it up with some lining (which can be the exact same material otherwise a basic plain colour cotton etc). All I did was cut out two of the same sized main panels joined them together and then followed the rest of the steps. To take it up another level you could always sew them with the good sides facing for the side and bottom seams them flip that out and what you end up with are super clean edges and you don't need to hem them :). And again just follow the rest of the side dart and waistband steps from there. Hope that makes sense x
I love this skirt and am going to make it but I was wondering is the actual skirt part supposed to be the circumference times 1.5 or are only the straps supposed to be that size please let me know
Hi! I'm not sure yet, but I am thinking of making a wrap skirt like this but maybe with ruffle edges? Could I just add a ruffle to the angled edge and/or the bottom to achieve that look or would that mess with the lay of the fabric? I really like the clear explanation of this video :)
Too easy! To add the extra length just figure out that measurement as shown in the initial steps. Then from there there's two ways you can add the ruffle effect. First you could just create a ruffle and add it to the bottom length of the skirt and leave the sides straight. Or secondly instead of it being a pointed corner on the front sides you could add a curve and that way add a ruffle that smoothly extends all the way across the edge. Hope that helps :)
Hi Maddy, nice to meet you! Lisa from "And Sew On" introduced me to your channel. Really enjoyed your tutorial really well done, i have subscribed and will check out the rest of your vlogs. Looking forward to watching more from you.
Hey! The amount all depends on your size. To find the ideal amount measure your full hip circumference then times this by 2 and that should be plenty for the straps and the main panel with seam allowance. Hope that helps :)
The one shown in this tutorial is a flannelette. But I've also made ones from denim, linen and cotton. Pretty much anything that's not too flimsy is perfect. Hope that helps :)
hi, I just found your super helpful tutorial. I just have a question for the darts. I saw you find the position of darts by folding the fabric into third. But do the darts end up be on your sides?? It feels like the darts still end up at the back when you wear it. I do want to my darts end up at the back, so just simply follow your three fold way??
Thanks so much! Glad you found this tutorial helpful. The main reason I fold it into thirds is to help find the two side edges. So it's strange that it's sitting more towards the back for you. If that's the case and it's not too much of a hassle it might be worth moving one of them across so it allows more space across the back and so they're positioned as side seams. x
I'd suggest doubling it up, as it might not be so practical to wear if it's too see through! Just cut out the first main panel twice and join it together then do all the same steps from there :)
Definitely! Just make sure you're definitely happy with the fit before you do that as it makes it more permanent and then just overlock or zig-zag stitch to clean it up :)
this was soooo good and easy to follow! kinda sad cause with every skirt ive made it always ends up waaaaay too small! i dont know how, i always measure and follow the steps exactly :(
Aw thank you so much!! Maybe with future skirts you just need to add extra seam allowance to be safe as it's always easier to take something in rather than make it bigger x x
Thanks so much. I get fabric from varied places depending on what I have in mind. If you're Australia based I'd highly recommend looking into this fabric store www.thefabricstore.com.au/ otherwise I tend to use a lot of thrifted fabric/garments. Hope that helps! x
Hiya! love this tutorial it’s helped a lot!! Just wanna check... did you make 2 straps for the waist both at 60” long ? Or were they both 30” long and created 60” in total? Hope this makes sense haha
So glad to hear it's helped you!! haha that totally makes sense, I made two straps at 1.5 my hip size, so that's correct that it was 2 at the length of 60" each. That way they can both easily wrap around my waist with enough length to tie up and hang as a feature :)
The best thing about this is a lot of fabrics would work for it! I used a flannelette fabric. But suitable for cotton, linen, denim or anything that isn't stretchy or to 'flimsy'.

omg ur so pretty
I love this skirt and am going to make it but I was wondering is the actual skirt part supposed to be the circumference times 1.5 or are only the straps supposed to be that size please let me know
Love this ❤️❤️
Thank you so much!!
Hi! Lisa from "And Sew On" sent me to check out your vlog!
Hi, sweet channel
where do you get the materials? has anyone some advice?
This is soooooo cute ...I'm going to try ..🥰
eeee Thank You! x
Very good tutorial! You did a really good job :) I love the idea for your channel - making and minimal! I was sent over by And Sew On!
how many yards did u use?
Really love how simple this looks to make! Do you reckon lining this or doubling up on the fabric is better if it's on the sheer side?
How much fabric would you need to make this pattern?
Hi! I'm not sure yet, but I am thinking of making a wrap skirt like this but maybe with ruffle edges? Could I just add a ruffle to the angled edge and/or the bottom to achieve that look or would that mess with the lay of the fabric? I really like the clear explanation of this video :)

so cute!! Lisa from 'and sew on' sent me over - :)
I found you from Lisa from And Sew On.and I will come back again.
I'm not sure what I did wrong. The skirt wraps all the way around me and doesn't show the "slit". 🥺🥺🥺
What type of fabric is it? Xx
Am I the only one who has come from her all my diy essentials video?!
Hi Maddy, nice to meet you! Lisa from "And Sew On" introduced me to your channel. Really enjoyed your tutorial really well done, i have subscribed and will check out the rest of your vlogs. Looking forward to watching more from you.

You are so adorable and thanks for technique..
hi i’m making this with a really thin linen fabric that is a little sheer, should i just double it up?
i just made this skirt and i just finished! i love it so much im so surprised with how it turned out!
I'd suggest doubling it up, as it might not be so practical to wear if it's too see through! Just cut out the first main panel twice and join it together then do all the same steps from there :)
Perfect ♡
Thank you!
Thanks Lisa from And Sew On for pointing me towards Maddy from The Essential Club vlog.
Great thanks found you curtisy of Lisa from "And Sew On " .🙋
Thanks for this tutorial. And Sew On sent me.
she is very cute, how she speak ! thanks for the video
Can you cut the extra fabric from the darts
Definitely! Just make sure you're definitely happy with the fit before you do that as it makes it more permanent and then just overlock or zig-zag stitch to clean it up :)
