For anyone struggling with the pattern:
The inner circle should be your waist measurement plus the amount you want the skirt to overlap by divided by 2*pi, or about 6.3
    Inner: (Waist+overlap)/6.3
The outer circle should be your inner circle measurement plus the length of the skirt with seam allowance.
    Outer: inner+length

What number or measurement should I be taking into account for overlap? Are you saying if I want it to overlap twice, thrice, etc I need to measure for that as well?

I MADE THIS SKIRT!! I can't believe I did it cause this was only my 3rd time at the sewing machine but it turned out so good! Thank you so much for the clear and easy instructions. It has kick-started my DIY journey for sure. Mine turned out a little bit too short for my liking so I would recommend making it a little bigger if you don't want it too short. But overall, this was AMAZING! Thank you so much xx

I made this - and I love it!!! It took an afternoon, evening, and then morning but it was WORTH IT!
A couple of notes and adjustments for anyone else wanting to make this:
    - I'm 5"7 with a 26in waist and nearly 40in hips, which is pretty close to Ally's measurements (her measurements are in the description box) I used all of Ally's measurements for the skirt EXCEPT I added two inches to the back half of the skirt to account for the fact that my ass is on the larger side, to the point where I do this with all my skirts because otherwise the front and back look uneven. This trick worked perfectly when applied to this skirt, and did not alter how the skirt looks
    - Ally is 5"9 and I'm 5"7 so the skirt looks slightly longer on me, and hits roughly four inches above my knees. It looks nice, not 'conservative', but you may want to take skirt length and your height into consideration if you want more of a shorter or longer skirt
    - When she tells you to cut two pieces for the waistband, this is so that the overall length of the waistband will be 140inches. I had to watch the video a couple times to realise that so thought I'd mention for anyone else who's a little slow like me lol
Thought these notes might help others as they helped me 🤗

How did you add inches to the back? If you cut it the way she does it would all be equal. Did you just cut the whole thing longer and then cut the front shorter before hemming?
I have the same exact problem... skirts are fine in the front but always too short in the back. Why do manufacturers seem to assume butts are flat??

    • @jessiegraceillustrates
      @jessiegraceillustrates 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@Aitherea Yup that's exactly what I did! Cutting it all my preferred 'butt covering' length then trimming 2 inches from the front, and gently curving the trim so that it meets the normal length at the sides. I recommend doing it on a piece of paper first if it's hard to get your head around (it was for me, so I used wrapping paper first, then used that as a pattern). I know! Stores can be so frustrating so I gave up and started making my own skirts ages ago 😂

  • @evelynwald9132

So cute! I bet that if you doubled the pattern making two skirts and seaming both at the waistline you would have made a skirt that would have been less see through and still maintained that light, flouncy look, especially since your fabric had such a nice drape. Plus double the twirling pleasure! Thank you for sharing.

If you turn in both edges, (similar to when you hemmed the side edges, only folding in once & then pinning them together) you can avoid ever having to turn anything inside out again (I hate doing it, so I always avoid it lol) it also gives you one nice crisp edge. If you want both sides the same, you just mirror it on the other side even though it was never open there.
In no way is this a critique of this girl. I adore her. Just wanted to pass this on for people who don't like turning things inside out lol

I can't find fabric wide enough to fold into quarters, so any circle skirts I do, I have to cut out 2 semi circles, measurements remain the same for drafting it though 😊

About how much fabric did you need for the skirt? :)

How many yards would I need if I wanted my skirt to go down to my ankle?

How do you stop it from flowing open? As much as I love it I am really concerned about this part

I don't know if that's really a problem if the sides overlap enough but I think you could at something like a hook and eye closure or little snap buttons somewhere on the part where it overlaps.

You could wear some light coloured shorts under it so if it does flow open everything’s still covered.
