    As someone who was born and brought up in Maharashtra, and traveled a lot in ST Buses which had Ashok Leyland Cheetah buses for many years, the beep sound before ignition, and the roaring sound of the engine when it comes live is something that is a core lifetime memory for me. Very reliable buses that worked so well even after being not maintained for years, some buses just had no odometer nothing, dusted like hell but still running like a beast.

      Sir, Gadi kaisa bi chalthi samaj ke chalaneka galath hai, Vehicle should be duly maintained & should be in perfect running condition on Road. "Gadi hamari sher hai, kaisa chalaye toh bi safar kar ke aathi hai", Ye samaj ke apni khudhdha ka driver, maal aur doosare sadak upayogiyon ko jokim meh dalna bahuth galath hai, All public sector aur anya niji transport operators should note this fact in the interest of public & road safety,

    Tata and Ashok Leyland makes distinct sounds. Previously buses of gsrtc built on Ashok Leyland chasis had different type of gear lever which driver used to put his hand behind to shift whereas Tata used to provide gear shift which is usually available in all cars.

    I have been a fan of AL since their Comet engines which were used in trucks as well as busses. The sound of that engine was music to the ears especially, whilst changing gears double clutching from top to lower gears. I am from Maharashtra and AL is very commonly used in the Konkan region by MSRTC and even in the private busses. AL has terrific pulling power and since Konkan region is full of hilly range and ghats AL is preferred by every commercial transport company. TATA is mostly used on the straight roads of central Maharashtra where they perform very well. By the way, how exactly do you pronounce Leyland? I heard you say it as Lend.

    In Kerala regarding buses along the low land, coastal belt tata is common, mid land and high range Leyland is the champion. But now a days there is a huge shift towards bharat benz. But in the case or lorries not more than 20% is Leyland since ages.. Tata was and is always the champion

      True words. We do have taxi service in hill area and we really miss raw MnM maxx, savari, bs4 bolero and tata sumo as these vehicles are not complicated with sensors.
      Just powertrain and body with 12 seat capacity.
      We commerical operator really hate bs6 engine owing to clogging issue and reliability issue due to lots of electronic and sensors.

  • @manaspramanik9286
    @manaspramanik9286 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Most of the answers are generic except one that the engine is derived from HINO engine which comes under Toyota and we know what Toyota is famous for. Another reason for choosing Ashok Leyland over Tata, Eicher, SML Isuzu, Scania and Bhart Benz is few breakdowns and more profit for the truck owners and for Government as well. While Tata also has many breakdowns but spare parts is easily available in market that's why some people prefer Tata for that. Bharat Benz is also reliable and few breakdowns but there is a problem in spare parts availability since it's new in Indian market.

  • @gillrsg

    Leyland is best since 1980s. We bought 2 new leylands 370, with 25 feet half body in 1983. Our vehicles plied from Delhi to Madras. They were nice vehicles with high mileage. It consumed about 1600 litres diesel for Delhi Madras up and down while TATA LPs consumed about 2000 liters. Diesel was 1.48 rs per litre at that time. Though it was heavy to drive than Tata but Leylands had zero breakdown in the way. Tatas frequently broke down mostly rear axles, cross, wheel nuts etc. Leyland engines were very durable in comparison with Tata. Leyland engines were overhauled after 3-4 years but Tata engines lasted about 2 years. These figures are for Delhi Madras route when roads were single after Rajasthan. Neemuch to Nanded, Nizamabad all roads were single till we reached Dichpally on Nagpur Hydrabad highway which was 2 lane. Then again from Anantapur we turned to single road to Kadiri Madanapalley route and then touched Bangalore Madras highway after Chittoor which was again 2 lane highway till Madras. I was 19 years old owner/ operator at that time. Now it is very easy to travel on our 4-6 lane highways. But the RTOs and police are the same Looters now also. I quit the transport business in 1998 and multi axle trucks had started in 1992-93 mostly 10 tyre trucks. Leyland launched its first 10 tyre truck TAURUS in 1982 itself much before the Tatas. Taurus had differential lock at that times to lock the all rear 8 tyres to avoid slipping of tyres on wet or uneven surface.

    In Maharashtra's Msrtc I have seen Tata buses in Pune, Mumbai, Nasik, Amravati and Nagpur region but in Nanded, Aurangabad, Latur mostly Ashok Leyland buses are running.

    All and above mumbai life line BEST buses are Leyland. Also one can find leyland in konkan State Transport depot as the region is hilly and Leyland is king in a hilly region.

    I personally asked truckers in chennai as towhy tata trucks were so less there. The reason they gave was the size of the AL trucks which made more sense than the small tata trucks. Second was reliability and superior performance in the longrun . Third being, less maintenance along with better quality.
    I asked questions in Assam also to a contractor who replied that AL trucks were better both in terms of price , performance ,built quality and durability. He had 4 older AL trucks which were in excellent condition along with 4 more brand-new AL trucks. The same batch of tata trucks which he had brought together with the AL trucks were not in good shape even though the work was same for both models.

    In Delhi Transport Corporation (known as DTC in Delhi), all buses were long-haul and low-maintenance. But now that place has been taken by Marco Polo. Are.
