    As a physician, I can tell you that your video has been extremely useful and made the entire process straightforward. It is, as of 6/13/2024, 99.9% accurate. Still very usable and informative for those of us who continue to work after age 65. Thank you.

      We're glad to hear you find our video content helpful. We try to be as accurate as possible. Sometimes Social Security changes the application questions or the look of the SSA website...but you're right, this video is still accurate. 😀

    Greetings Andy,
    Prior to watching your video, I called Medicare, and after being placed on hold for over an hour, I spoke with a representative and asked if he could assist me with signing up for Medicare part A, as I will be turning 65 in a few months, and I’m still working.
    The representative said I didn’t need to do anything at this time, but if I wanted to sign up for Medicare, I could apply online
    and was directed to the SS website.
    Afterwards, I attempted to enroll on the Medicare website, but paused half way through the application process because the questions became extremely confusing.
    Now, fast forward to your excellent video, which btw provided a clear and concise tutorial to help me navigate through the poorly written language, allowing me to successfully sign up for Medicare part A.
    Thank you for your research, and using your platform to share this needed information.
    God Bless you!

    Great video. I suggest adding a comment about what happens if you answer NO to the question: "Are you covered under a Group Health Plan through your own current employment?" at 7:54. When I read "your own current employment" I was concerned for my wife, whom is covered only by my Group Health Plan (she does not have one of her "own"). The video moves on quickly by answering yes. If one answers "NO", a follow-up question appears: Are you covered by someone else's Group Health Plan? (paraphrase). If you answer "YES" to that question, then the process moves along in the same manner as if you had answered "YES" at 7:54. So it's not a huge thing, but it would be nice to see the effect of answering either "YES" or "NO", as was done elsewhere in the video.

      Barb - Thank you for your comments and suggestions. We love to hear ideas on different videos. I agree...a video on the different ways to pay Medicare premiums would be good. We'll get on that in 2023.
      The form to pay Medicare premiums via EFT auto bank draft out of your checking account is called the "Easy Pay Form". Officially it's called Form SF-5510: Authorization Agreement for Pre-Authorized Payments. It can be accessed at this link: www.medicare.gov/basics/costs/pay-premiums
      We just recently filmed a video on how to access the most popular Medicare and Social Security forms, so be on the lookout for that one soon after we finished the editing. Please subscribe and click the bell icon to be alerted about our new video uploads.

    When applying online for Medicare only, when checking the box yes for being disabled, the application starts asking questions about being self employed, do I plan to work in 2022 or 2023. I'm not applying for ssdi just for Medicare so I'm wondering why the questions, and I'm afraid to continue because it's starting to appear I'm applying for ss. Should I go back and change the answer to no and apply for ssdi at another time? I'm not ready to start that process but I do need to apply for Medicare Parts A and B.

    Hi great video. Thanks. So when you get your letter in the mail and your card does it give you options in how to pay if you’re not taking your SS yet.
    Or do they send you a bill for 3 months and the choices to pay on that? What’s your recommendation on how to pay? I heard you won’t want to miss a payment, and with the slow mail at times that might not be best.
    Thanks for your answers!!

      Hi there. You can pay this premium a couple different ways:
      - Write a check and mail it
      - Write in a credit card on the payment slip (credit card or HSA debit card) and mail it
      - Setup an account on medicare.gov and make payment electronically
      - Or setup automatic payment via the EasyPay form (form SF-5510), which auto drafts the premium from your checking account monthly

    2. How do I get Part C?

    • @MedicareMindset
      @MedicareMindset  ปีที่แล้ว

      John - Thanks for reaching out. I'm glad to hear the video was helpful. To your questions:
      1.) No, it's not too early. You can submit the application in the 4 months leading up to your birthday month.
      2.) Once you have confirmation that your Part A & Part B are active for 1/1/23 (and you have your Medicare #, which is on your Medicare card)...you can enroll in a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan...if that's the plan type you decided on.
      Also, you mention you're still employed. If the employer has 20+ employees, the plan doesn't cost you too much, and the coverage is great...then you don't have to leave your employer plan.
      So did you enroll in Part A only, or both Part A & B?

    Good video with excellent explanations for the poorly worded questions. I'll be signing up for Medicare & SS to start in a few months. Any videos specific to that so I make sure I get the SS income amount for age 65? and so that I can have the Medicare directly taken out of my SS? I have insurance that ends on my 65th birthday, assume I'll answer that I no longer have a group insurance since it will be gone. Thank you!

    • @MedicareMindset
      @MedicareMindset  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Donna! Glad you found the video helpful.
      If you also start SS retirement income, your Medicare Part B will automatically be deducted from your SS retirement check.
      For the employer group coverage question, answer it based on what's true today when you're filing out the application. But really the answers you put for that question won't matter, as you're turning 65...it's irrelevant.

    Great video and extremely helpful...I am in the process of completing the initial medicate application today, May 2. If my employment ends on June30 and my insurance from employer ends August 31, do I answer yes to the question are you covered under group insurance since at this time while filling out application I am employed and insured? I believe I do and then click employment has not ended and health insurance has not ended. Is this correct if I want to be sure that I will start medicare A and B coverage in August when I turn 65.

    • @MedicareMindset
      @MedicareMindset  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great! Yes, answer the employment question based on what is true today...that you're still employed and still covered on that group plan. Employment has not ended, and coverage has not ended at this moment.
      Coverage will begin 8/1/23...assuming your bday is between Aug 2nd-31st. Then you can either drop off the group plan 8/1/23, since Medicare starts then...OR...have one month of overlap coverage and drop the group plan 9/1/23 and start supplemental coverage.

    Fantastic video! I have a quick question. I turned 65 in March and have medical coverage with my employer through June 30, so I want Medicare to begin July 1. This is as late as I can sign up during my IEP. Can I apply in May and specify a start date of July 1 in the note section or must I postpone my application until June 1 to get a start date of July 1. I’m worried about not getting my Medicare card in time to enroll in MedSup and Part D drug plan.

    • @MedicareMindset
      @MedicareMindset  หลายเดือนก่อน

      In your case, the only way to get a 7/1/24 Part B start date, you would have to wait to submit the application until June. June is month 7 of your IEP, so enrolling that month will yield a 7/1/24 Part B start date.
      Do you have Part A already? If so, just turn in Form 40B in early June at your local SSA office. Note: They often try to tell people they need form L564 also, but kindly remind them that you are still in your IEP, so Form L564 is not required.
      If you don't have Part A yet, since it's already May right now...I would just wait until very early June to start and submit the application for A&B. Part A will backdate to 3/1/24 and Part B will automatically start 7/1/24. They will turn it around in time. But you'll likely need to get your Medicare # from your Benefit Verification Letter in your SSA account. You will see that much faster than the card will arrive by mail. I explain how to do that here: www.medicaremindset.com/proof

We are trying to sign her up for Medicare only on the SSA website, but the system is forcing her to also apply for social security (which she does not want to do). Any tips on how to enroll in Medicare only? The screen shot in your video differs from the current options on the SSA website. Thank you so much for your input!

    • @EOliver-vl5vu

      I figured it out. Since she didn’t sign up during her initial enrollment period when she turned 65, and open enrollment is closed, the system will not let her sign up for Medicare. But she qualifies under an SEP (due to her employment ending) so we need to manually fill out the forms and drop them at our local SSA office.

      Thanks, Dan! Have you started your application already? If so, you will get a 10/1/22 start date for Parts A & B. If you have NOT started the application, then don't do so until the month of November. November is the 5th month of your initial 7-month enrollment period in Medicare. Enrolling in month 5 automatically yields a 2-month delayed Part B start date...which is perfect in your case (1/1/23 start). But again, this will only work if you haven't started the application yet. If you can start and finish it in November, you'll get a 10/1/22 Part A start and a 1/1/23 Part B start.
      Please read the details of this very topic on our website at www.medicaremindset.com/iep

      Okay, glad to hear you haven't started the application yet. So literally DO NOT start this until early November. Normally, you can leave the Remarks section blank, but it's a good idea in your case to make it clear that you understand your Part B will be delayed 2 months and start 1/1/23. So say something like this..."I understand that by submitting my application in November (month 5 of my Initial Enrollment Period), my Part B will be delayed 2 months and begin January 1st, 2023". Then the SSA rep who processes your enrollment knows you are aware of the delay.

      If your mom is turning 65 in November 2022, then no it's not too early. She is definitely in her 7-month initial enrollment period (3 months before, month of bday, 3 months after). The application needs to be done at ssa.gov. I'm not sure where you're getting stuck in the process, though.
      Does she have a SSA.gov account? That's required first
      Did you click the Medicare square on the front page of www.ssa.gov?
      Did you scroll down and click "Apply for Medicare Only"?
      And did you start the application after that and subsequently logging into her SSA account?

    If your turning 65 on December 10th, can you get your retirement benefits and Medical on the first of December. Even though you are not 65, till the 10th of December.

      You'll be eligible for Medicare as of 12/1/22. If you decide to also start Social Security retirement benefits, you'll choose the month you want benefits to start. And then your first check will hit your bank account the month AFTER the month you select in the system. The date you receive your benefits is based on your birthday. Birthdays between the 1st-10th are paid around the 2nd Wednesday of the month.
      So if you choose a December 2022 Social Security start, your benefits will hit your bank account around the 2nd Wednesday of January 2023. But as mentioned before, your Medicare can start as early as 12/1/22...assuming you enroll leading up to December 2022.

      If you're helping a friend or family member enroll in Medicare online, then you clearly need their permission and will want to have that person there with you. This is because they will receive a text or email from SSA when logging into their SSA account.

    I will turn 65 on Jan 1, 2025. So I can enroll Social Security as early as Sep 1, 2024, right? I am still working and having good insurance with my current company which covering myself and my wife who is 60. Do I just apply for Part A only?

    • @MedicareMindset
      @MedicareMindset  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you turn 65 on January 1st, you're actually eligible December 1st, 2024. So it's the 4 months prior to December when you can start to enroll (that would be as early as August 1st, 2024 to submit the application). Yes, I know that seems weird, but it's correct.
      As long as you don't contribute to an HSA (Health Savings Account), you can surely enroll in Part A ONLY. But if you do contribute to an HSA, then consider NOT enrolling in ANY Medicare while you're on the group health plan based on your active work. Then you can add Parts A & B later without penalty.
      NOTE: When you eventually enroll in Medicare and/or Social Security in the future, Part A will be backdated 6 months, so watch out. That will negatively impact your HSA contribution eligibility. More info on these topics here: www.medicaremindset.com/hsa

    I'm getting piled on with IRS debt because of the tax penalty for not being on health insurance so I really need something affordable so I can end the tax penalty problem when I do my taxes.

    • @MedicareMindset
      @MedicareMindset  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We're sorry to hear you're dealing with IRS debt, but there hasn't been a penalty for not having health insurance since 2018. This isn't applicable anymore. But maybe you're referring to a different "penalty".

      @@MedicareMindset For the last two years after doing w2s and taxes with hrblock they tell me that I owe the federal government a large sum of money because I'm not paying for any health insurance during the year. My employer doesn't take money from my paycheck for health insurance. My federal refunds are basically in the negative amount which is now what I owe the federal government and its because I don't have health insurance to pay towards. The IRS just sends me a paper in the mail with an envelope to mail them the money they say I owe them.

    Curious, will we still need an Medicare agent?

    • @andystamas
      @andystamas ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your question. You are not required to work with an insurance agent to enroll in your supplemental medical and drug coverage. But if you do, the agent's services and guidance are complimentary (no cost to you). But make sure the agent is an independent broker who represents multiple insurance carriers' plans AND offers both Medigap and Medicare Advantage plans. There are some agents who push you to one type of plan, and that's because they aren't licensed and certified to offer all plan types.
      For example, some agents only offer Medigap plans. They don't offer Medicare Advantage (which is right for some people) because Medicare Advantage plans require annual recertification and training.
