    Thank you so much for this video. I installed this post on my Chisel today and can’t wait to test it out tomorrow. Your video was a big help. My only snag was trying to feed the cable housing up the stack. My chisel is a 2x and the front derailer bolts were an impediment. Other than that, it was smooth sailing.

      @@50mtb44 I can only say that maybe the lever should be rotated downward a bit for a more natural position to push with the thumb , but thats easy , and maybe just personal preference . That lower hole on the seat tube on my bike is nearly invisible because the bike is black. I would have missed it and tried to feed with too much bend. Thx again!

      Fantastic! So far I like the Rainier. Working great (for short concrete runs). Can't wait to take it out this spring on the dirt (once sticky mud goes away - cakes on tires in minutes making them unrideable). Glad the video helped. Be sure to come back and tell us: 1) how the installation went (and any tips) and 2) how the dropper works for you.

      50mtb hey, I started installing my dropper post this afternoon. The instructions that came with mine show a completely different way of installing. To be honest, the included instructions SUCK ! I have a solid end on the lever end of the cable and have to leave a 18-19mm gap from the end of the cable housing cover to the end of the barrel connector at the seat tube end. What a pain in the south side. I’m still working on it as we speak and am being very careful not to cut the cable or housing too short. It looks like we are using the same levers. At first I thought maybe you were using a 1x lever but yours and mine appear identical.

      50mtb hi, I got it in (using a combination of your video and PNW’s crappy instructions) and it appears to work properly. Unfortunately, since I’m in upstate NY, it’ll be a couple more months before I can really put it through it’s paces. The best advice I can offer is for others to watch your video, read the instructions and double and triple measure your cable. I ended up cutting mine three different times. Test fit everything beforehand. The only other comment I can make is that PNW’s customer service sucks moose juice. I emailed them regarding their lack of instructions and got a generic replay that basically said “thanks for writing to us to tell us our stuff sucks. We’ll fix it soon. Now, dry up and blow away because we already have your money”! I was concerned about buying from a company that didn’t offer a telephone number for contact info and this is why (not that it would really have made a world of difference). I just hope I never need to use the three year warranty. Thanks again for posting your video. It did help.

      50mtb do you think carbon paste is a must, if so do you know of any alternatives?

    • @50mtb44
      @50mtb44  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carbon paste will create friction and stop the post from sliding in the seat tube.

      This is the first video I've found where the cable is routed around the bottom bracket on the outside.

    Thsi is a great video. Wish found it earlier. You are far more agile than installing that lever. Its nice that they supply the lever with the post but the lever they supplied is extremely exacting & tedious to install. No instructions came with it. It involves having to insert very small hinge bolts, hold in place, ensure the thin hinge inside is also held up all the while trying to insert the cable through another tiny threading bolt...which you also have to hold in place until its all inserted. After 15 minutes of multiple drops, frustrations at not being able to see the hole to thread the cable and did trying to make my fingers do 2 things at once...I finally got the agility test done! That was stresful! OK. I proceeded to last step & tighten both sides of the bolt. I did...but did too tight and it snapped.
    So..I emailed PNW Customer Service and its been almost 3 weeks AND THEY STILL HAVE NOT EVEN MAILED THE REPLACEMENT.
    Overall, I rate PNW Customer Service as horrible for 2019 level. Its email. They do not reply the same day. They do not work weekends obviously. So conversations are pain-staking and days long.
    I highly recommend *not* buying from PNW. Their customer service is slow, uninspired and very frustrating. They do not yet know how to handle customers who are ready to be fans.

      Karl, drag. That has to be frustrating. Sorry to hear it. I remember that bolt. Can't imagine a replacement at a hardware store (maybe try).
      When I emailed PNW on the weekend, I got a response right away. Of course, that was pre-sale (to make the sale).
      All I can say is keep going (maybe email again). The dropper is an excellent product.

      Awesome! Great post. The weather has finally been good enough to ride ... dropper working great on Chisel. Did slipt down just be sitting. Discovered that the cap at top of dropper needed to be twisted tight. Stopped slipping.
      Only wish the PNW was 150+ mm.
      Was asked by some if the PNW dropper on Chisel changed the ride quality (versus the original seat post). What do you think?

    • @bikenapa505
      @bikenapa505 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@50mtb44 I have not seen a 27.2 dropper bigger than 125mm, on bigger diameter posts there's more/longer options. Definitely important to install and tighten properly, also just like with anything, if you kink the cable on install, or fray a cable when you cut it, those parts will need some love, adjustment, or replacing over time too. The proper amount of cable tension, with no kinks, should not have any issues (well mine hasn't yet). I've heard lots of great reports on pnw coming through with great customer service, helping customers out and standing behind there products too 👍
      In terms of adding the dropper post to the Chisel changing 'the ride quality' ... Umm, Yeah! It makes it a WAY more capable, fun, and fast descending hardtail, for sure, huge improvement/upgrade.

    • @50mtb44
      @50mtb44  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. Big improvement. Small weight add. I think it was between 1/2 and 1 pound more. But so worth it if going off any drop or jump.

      Love to see Specialized Chisel videos. I installed the KS Lev Si 120mm on my chisel. I'm 52 yrs old and that dropper post just adds to my downhill hard tail experience. With my stance lower I'm able to see the lines ahead better, and am more confident leading into the next turn before completing the one I'm on. The Chisel leads the way. It flies, I love it.

    • @50mtb44
      @50mtb44  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jim, agreed. Now that I've ridden it for a while, I don't think I can go back to riding without a dropper ... even on my XC Chisel. Just feels safer on the downs. It did take several rides to get used to when to drop. But now more natural. Even feels weird now if I don't drop on the down.

    • @50mtb44
      @50mtb44  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Daniel, hi. The Rainier is INTERNAL cable routing. The Coast is EXTERNAL cable routing. Both will work. The Chisel has internal ports ... so internal looks better (my opinion). Per sizing, no idea. I recommend you DEMO test ride, even if just a parking lot test. In general, smaller bikes are easier to throw around. Longer bikes are more stable at speed. After my OTB, I now prefer longer bikes. Chisel is an awesome ride.

    • @50mtb44
      @50mtb44  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Djpko Djpkm, first statement: I am not an expert bike builder. That said, my understanding is that you SHOULD use carbon paste whenever a carbon surface needs "grip" with another surface, like seat tube clamp, stem on carbon bars, brake/shifter clamp on carbon bar, etc. When the two surfaces are alloy, no carbon paste is needed. However, it will not hurt the alloy, and may help if the alloy is slipping.

    Hey bud great video!
    Quick question. You measured the "minimum insertion of 6inch", is this because this is the actual saddle measurement you usually use? Or am I more confused .. 😅

    • @50mtb44
      @50mtb44  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a mark on the dropper shaft indicating the minimum insertion into the seat tube (so the dropper does not break or bend). On PNW website there is a chart with all the dimensions you need to consider, including minimum insertion, rise, drop, overall length, etc. You will need to do some math for your messurements. Good luck.
