    Excellent- easy instructions and the reasoning behind slack cable and how to fix it. A good video is the camera and pretend that everyone is new to it. Never mind people rushing a step, thinking everyone knows. This was a good tutorial.

    Great video! I just bought a new dropper and having never installed one and unable to find much on the model I bought, I'm happy to have found this video. Thanks! Update: I installed my KS LEV SI dropper using your instructions. The only problem I had was with the measuring for the barrel. KS included a piece to measure the distance between the barrel and the housing, but there were no instructions, and I had it upside down which caused looseness in the cable. Once I figured out my error I was good to go. Thanks again!

    Thanks! Installing a new housing was the big issue for me, without specific tools. I hasld to improvise : I turned the bike upside down, fed the housing and the cable from the front hole to the bottom opening of the frame, there I attached the little metal cylinder that attaches to the seat post and I tied a shoelace to it. From there it was very easy to guide the unattached end of the sholace through the small hole and down the seat tube. Then just pull it and the housing follows the corect path. Then I followed this video. Hope this helps

    • @BikeTeacher
      @BikeTeacher  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's jammed? It may need a complete disassembly to see what went wrong. Something bent or jammed. It also may not be repairable. May need new internals.

  • @williamlehecka6697
    @williamlehecka6697 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    So a bit of confusion. After I cut the excess cable housing after measuring the extra from my seat post the cable housing was now much further down into the frame. I did not have the extra cable housing that reaches outside the frame so I can put the ferrel cap on correctly. What did I miss? Did you allow much extra cable housing in the front of the bike at the beginning when you cut one inch above the seat post?

    Nice video. Thanks for posting. Unfortunately the Command Post is not very good. I’m taking mine off my 2017 Specialized Enduro. It rattles (from day 1), loses pressure, and does not operate smoothly despite being rebuilt by the Specialized dealer. I am replacing it with the same X-Fusion unit that came standard on my Specialized Epic, which works way better. It is nicely dampened so it rises at the perfect rate and is very well priced. Specialized obviously thought the Command Post wasn’t great when they switched to the X-Fusion.

      Yes, less fuss with internal routing in some cases but sometimes the externalhousing may move around too much and or rub and get caught on parts of the frame. For the most part you can lightly zip tie it.

    • @BikeTeacher

      Yes, some will include it for initial set up. I like the levers that allow you to pinch the cable at the lever and not the dropper.

    I don’t understand how after cutting the housing an inch above the seat post how you easily get another 8” of housing past the seat collar again. • @BikeTeacher

      Yes there is room for a remote. A particular grip allows you attach it to the end of the grip nearest your shifter. Like it’s integrated. It would take the place of the grip clamp.

    So I have one of these and need to travel by air. The case I have requires removal of the seat and post. Is this pretty easy to remove and reinstall ? I have a Diverge expert Evo gravel with a X-Fusion Manic Dropper, 50mm travel

    • @BikeTeacher

      I do not know that one specifically but they all should disconnect at the seat post with a quick release style or maybe you can slide the housing in to the frame to remove the post just enough off the bike. Removing the lever from the bar nay help.

      It is fully internal. This carbon stump jumper has its own routing tunnels. I believe I had to guide it the rest of the way into the seat tube.

    Good instruction video but I can't help thinking that your brakes levers are on the wrong sides. Motorcycles have the front brake on the right hand and so does my Turbo Levo FSR as supplied.

    • @BikeTeacher
      @BikeTeacher  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found that it is common for bikes to have the front brake lever on the right side if they are electric or from the U.K. I don’t ride motorcycles so it would be a learning curve for me.

      A bike shop may have one laying around or online stores. Look for barrel adjuster for brake or derailleur. Which ever you need.

      I found some online, I typed “ks lev dropper post parts”. Also called cable clamp.

    I’ve installed about 10 droppers and the ones with the cinch/barrel at the base are straight from hell. Anyone looking to buy a dropper should opt for one where the head of the cable resides in the bottom of the dropper. Much easier to install dropper and adjust cable length at the handlebars

    Are the cables universal for all bikes or do you need a specific one per bike model?

    • @BikeTeacher
      @BikeTeacher  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      All droppers use the standard derailleur cable. There is a longer cable reserved for tandem bikes.

    I can't get the tube through my specialised stunt jumper 2019 any help? And also should I put the pipe through the top or the bottom of the bike

    • @BikeTeacher
      @BikeTeacher  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would start from the top of the bike. I feel gravity helps when trying to guide the housing (pipe, tube) through the frame. Maybe start eh the process with a cable. get the cable installed first then you can slide the housing over it, then you can pull out the cable. @@BikeTeacher thanks mate , I found one yesterday . In the UK they seem to be called solderless barrels .
      The ones with the screw in to clamp on the cable that is .
      The way it's done now is you buy a regular MTB brake cable and put the barrel end in the dropper post thread it through , then at the thumb lever there's a screw where the cable gets clamped down onto the lever without the need for another barrel end .

    Question on mine Specialized Command Post Internal routing :
    When I ride it sinks down after a few seconds , and I have to bring it up with the lever , and again after a few seconds, something gets loose or I don’t know what it is , the pressure is right , please help , thanks

    • @BikeTeacher
      @BikeTeacher  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly too much tension on the cable. Use the barrel adjuster to loosen the cable, screw the barrel clockwise to collapse the barrel adjuster. If you have no more room to turn it clockwise you will need to loosen the cable at the pinch bolt and reset the barrel adjuster to half way at least.

    • @BikeTeacher
      @BikeTeacher  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do a test and release the cable (barrel) at the seat post. It should be a quick release, Test ride it and see if the seat drops by it’s self. If it still falls by it’s self you have an issue inside. I would talk to Specialized to see if it can be fixed by you are it may need to be sent in.

      How did you get on? I have the same issue with a new bike. The seat drops while I'm riding. I've checked the cable and it seems to be setup properly. Tension is good. I'm thinking this could be a fault with the seat. Have to wait till Monday to phone the supplier!

    • @willesloco
      @willesloco 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I fixed it! the mechanic that set the bike up cut the cable to less than 12mm at the seat post :( I managed to eak out an extra 2 mm to the bitter end. It's not perfect and I will have to replace the cable, but for now it works. Millimetre's make all the difference with this seat post setup for the cable tension. It clearly states 17 mm in the manual so I do not know why they cut it to 10 mm?! Thanks for the video Bike Teacher, it was very helpful indeed.

    You think I will be able to do internal routing with my 2020 Rockhopper 27.5?

    • @BikeTeacher
      @BikeTeacher  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as there is a opening connecting the down and seat tube you should be okay. I assume there is a routing hole near the headtube?

      Which post do you have? The manufacture told me it is normal (KLEV) to manually pull it up if the bike has sat several hours, then its usually good to go.

    i would have tightened the cable from the handle bar because if incase the set screws come a little loose, you have take the whole post out just to tighten it plus it makes it a lot easier assembling and cutting your 7 inches from handle bar height and tweaking from there.....my 2 cents!!
