Takes me back to the good old days when I could only afford booster packs once every month or so and had to cobble together something workable from the scraps. Nowadays I can work for a month and blow a paycheck on ebay for a deck. Just isn't the same.
I do agree that the sheer randomness of what you built your deck with was one of the largest appeals of Yugioh during childhood. Everyone's deck was an amalgam of whatever the best cards we could get our hands on were, and it oddly equalized the playing field in a way that made it feel extra special. The power cards we pulled became so special to us. This is why I think the Progression Series is succeeding so much, it pulls back all the nostalgia of what we had to do back then.
@@gambitgambles combos have always existed. You guys just played bad decks. Which is fine but the competitive scene is just that, competitive. You're allowed to not like it but the way you play isn't how everyone else plays. I'm sure there are online groups who share the same opinions as you that you can join.
@@wbrodie55 I don't think everything should be competitive and I mean Yu GI Oh is a teenager card game... If your fun is having a 10 negate board in first turn well I guess everyone plays different not everyone likes the old slow yugioh I understand.

@@gambitgambles So this game should not be competitive because its not "adult"? Also the meta existed well back in the early 00s but it was a lot different. Initial strategies consisted of beatdown decks and then hand control came. Personally I like playing casually and competitively.
As an idea for a series. Why not continue with this and buy more chaos packs and just up date the decks. You could see how strong you could get the decks and keep track of the score for who has won the most sets by the end.
The boxes played trell dirty I'm surprised he pulled off the first game tbh. I love these deck building challenges it's what brought me here a few years ago. I really liked the one you did at the start of the year with Larry where you had more control so it wasnt so random
For duels like these after you finish building your decks you could create a pile of tradeable cards to trade with each other and add them to the side decks. Your first duel must be with the cards you drew and after each duel you can switch them.
I think it would be cool to see you guys try out pre constructed mtg commander decks. They are around $40 each and are usually balanced around the eachother from the same set. They are each themed around a specific card that is highlighted by the deck and comes with material to learn how to play. Commander is a format that is multiplayer friendly and there are usually 4+ pre constructed decks released per set. I love the content I'm not very well versed in yugioh but am trying to learn more and your content is really helping with the process.
Dark paladin was always worth it, and that goes all the way back to magician's force (MFC) Prior to that, spirit on the reaper and some fusions from LOD (fiend skull dragon, dark balter, Ryu senshi) were alright and of course thousand eyes restrict. The main thing that actually held these back was how rarity actually mattered back then due to outright scarcity of the distribution of the game, granted it started to get popular enough by the release of LON to be more available than it had been.
@@shredman87.57 thousand dragon was never necessarily good, but it was iconic due to the show, and very rare back then (until starter deck joey came out) The main set back for fusion was that polymerization was a super rare in LOB which had 126 cards in it, so it was very hard to even get until starter deck joey came out.
@@hamsandwich6685 Hate to break it to you but those cards were only ever good because of Magical Scientist cheesing them out of the ED and bypassing the entire mechanic.
I think given modem Yu-Gi-Oh card design (as a very casual fairly new player who has more familiarity with other cars games) surely th game is in a pretty good place for them to release some draftable product. Maybe a reprint set built with draft in mind where you can just buy a box or run an in store event where everyone buys 4-5 packs and they get passed around like magic drafts. I say this because modern Yu-Gi-Oh cards seem to have had a lot of hard requirements taken out of summoning them, so you don't need to have exactly x and y to summon z, you maybe need 1 generic monster and 1 warrior or something. So long as they were careful about building the set around 4-6 archetypes that don't require too much internal synergy and have some cross archetype interaction then this would genuinely work really well. You could still end up with some cool combos in your deck but you'd have a slower Yu-Gi-Oh game where people don't have to remember 5 variations of 20 step lines and people aren't basically garunteed to draw an out to your plays or board (which they won't need to since you won't be dropping 4 Omni negates turn 1). Obviously it goes without saying that they should include high value staple reprints at appropreat rarities in these products as this would encourage people to actually draft the set for a chance to pull something both good for their deck and more broadly desirable.
There were Battle Packs where the draft was generally ruled that all monsters are essentially treated as simultaneously being all types and attributes. I think that one of the major flaws with Battle Packs was that typically they didn't have "chase cards" so people didn't want to spend money on them, and also their solution of not dealing with archetypes was just to not print archetype cards so honestly deck building was pretty limited. Deck Build Packs would probably be possible to retool for draft, if they had a little more crossover synergy. They introduce brand new archetypes along with reprints to support the archetypes introduced so they're generally meant to be playable with nothing but what you get from the packs, but an issue I feel is that oftentimes the reprints they offer are very clearly intended to be specifically for a single deck. Like if you were doing a Grand Creators draft and noticed that a player picked a Castel you could assume he's building Exosister off of that alone. These sort of boxes of "you individually get a handful of packs and work from there" seem better for the type of card game that Yugioh is.
@@Zetact_ The type ruling seems like it would cause more problems than it solves, and is just a way of getting around poor planning in pack contense. That does sound cool with the deck build packs. I think that the issue of knowing what someone has taken isnt an issue at all. You never know WHO took what in a draft, so all you could really tell would be that someone in your 4-8 person pod was building the deck supported by the card you saw. Your right that sealed might work better but there is am element of Skill that comes from having to select your cards one by one not really knowing what else is going to come up down the line for you. you need to play the odds a bit, and your desiscion making at the end of the draft is very different to pack one.

22:46-22:51 Well…was just working on custom upgrades for that “archetype.” Basically it focuses on putting a retrained Cadet and a level 3 and 4 custom (4+3+1=8) on board to search and special summon King, Lava, and Swamp and then tributing Lava and Swamp to give King 3 attacks (permanent). Lava and Swamp can then set Rage and Howling once they are Tributed by King. If king gets destroyed by card effect it can float back into Lava and Swamp and give them destruction protection. I also think they should get a field spell that boost them by 500 ATK and give them targeting protection. We’ll call it “Battleguard Wildlands.” Cadet can get the effect to discard to add the spell. The level 4, 3, and 1 can special summon each other from the deck or graveyard as a hard once per turn and then search for all the pieces you need so that you can do your stuff more consistently. That way you don’t need waste deck space since you can play 1 of the big guys. This gives you opportunity to put Designator, DRNM, Summon Limit, and Hand Traps to facilitate the strategy. It might be a bit one-dimensional, but it certainly beats being no-dimensional. P.S.: Why are they not Beast-Warriors? They can’t even play Tenki! 🤦♂️
Looking at the pulls it was pretty clear who would win but Trell did a lot better then expected taking a game and even outing pank not bad at all for what he had to play with.
Ahhh if only my locals was like this. I personally prefer going against decks that someone made up instead of just watching a video of the metas and what to run.

These boxes made me think these were just taking space on a shelf in a warehouse somewhere. Just 0 synergy, and nothing too great. Throwback to my deck as a kid lmao
Challenge idea; spend $20 each on bulk lots of cards from seperate sources trying to build a deck based on rarities in the lots alone and have a week to try to buy bulk lots and make money off them or trade with them to get playable decks but you can only use starting money or money generated from the cards to see which of you can establish yourselves best from scratch on a tight budget! No sealed product allowed! No trading with each other... 😜 Normal tournament rules apply to decks you build with by end of week... 😏 Mix of challenge round and profit or loss series and allows you to establish your deck a bit and show how you'd make improvements over time just sped up by time restraints instead of just relying on luck of the draw...
You guys should do a series where you spin a wheel and it has yugioh box names on it. When you spin the wheel the player gets 10 packs or 20 depending on what you decided. You open those packs and then build a deck and duel each other.
I'm shocked that these had LOB and MRD packs in them, that's mind blowing. People try to flog those for more than the price of these chaos boxes online, probably doesn't feel great to open those packs as a current player though due to their low power level, but I love them.
I pulled a Chaos emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End from this box in my Invasion Of Chaos pack I didn’t know how rare it was until I looked it up. Too bad it was like the OG 1st edition version I’d be rich
It's ironic, but the legacy packs like LOB are actually the most playable of them all when you're drafting decks from scrambled packs. Sometimes it's better to have unimpressive Level 4 vanilla beatsticks than a bunch of random pieces from archetypes jumbled together half of which you can't Summon or utilize in the way they're supposed to be used. It's the difference between trying to survive for a week in a cave with a kids' survival camp kit or an unplugged MRI machine
Great video Paul. I really enjoy these random lot deck built challenges. My only criticism is that the camera was too far away from the cards so I couldn’t really see what they were
If I might make a suggestion maybe playing under a Monster League ruleset (all monsters & spells that have a typing in their text are counted as all types for those that dont know about that ruleset) might help with some of the issues these random packs might give next time you do one of these.
Not even a bonus thing. When I bought one of these it came with a lil Kuriboh keychain and there were quite a few different ones to get such as Summoned Skull. Wow Paul got so much better pulls :O Trell got a surprising win, but all downhill from there. Paul you actually missed that Vic Viper T301 from grave when yout monster battles your opponent, a nice lil resource.
Buy all those packs on tcgplayer and see how much you spent + I bet all the tcg packs have only rare cards in them cause the buyer weights them before they sell them. Made that mistake. These random boxes are not bad for what you get. Good video, great job duelists!
4 years ago my cousin pulled an unlimited ultimate rare stardust from one of those power cubes from Target. “Sometimes I’m tempted to buy those cubes just because of the slight chance of them having an old pack.”
The card handling troubles with the lack of sleeves is hilarious, especially cause they always sleeve the other random pack decks. I guess these had less worth than the 5 or so mins to sleeve them all.
they have traps that are monsters and not counted as traps, pendulums, archetypes that count or don't count as other archetypes even though it is in the name of the card, and I'm sure there are many more that are even more similar to that. like dark monsters also counting as light monsters and I think there are other ones too
Love a good random packs duel makes you think on your feet also a funny duel would to both players to play exodia and only way to win is with the 5 pieces lol

Not even a bonus thing. When I bought one of these it came with a lil Kuriboh keychain and there were quite a few different ones to get such as Summoned Skull.
Wow Paul got so much better pulls :O
Trell got a surprising win, but all downhill from there.
I wish there was a yugioh game like this, classic old school fun
4 years ago my cousin pulled an unlimited ultimate rare stardust from one of those power cubes from Target.
“Sometimes I’m tempted to buy those cubes just because of the slight chance of them having an old pack.”
I love the way all Yugioh creators make fun of Walmart Yugioh cards 🤣
like how these boxes actually had og packs in them
NAY, this was fun! I do feel bad for Trell, Paul got the best cards from his pull but it was oddly 50-50... mainly 50-50 luck.
Love the concept for the video, ya'll are charismatic and the audio quality is good. Ya'll really gotta buy a tripod though
The background music in this one is a vibe
Great job I enjoy these kind of videos. I would love to see more.
Haven’t played yugioh in a long time. These video are super entertaining. Nice job
team aps double round robin with 2 other team members commentating please!
The card handling troubles with the lack of sleeves is hilarious, especially cause they always sleeve the other random pack decks.
I guess these had less worth than the 5 or so mins to sleeve them all.
CHAOS BEST DECK.
Not sure about these boxes normally but they sure do make for fun content.
love Trells new hair ❤️
Are there cards in yugioh like changelings in Magic? Essentially, monsters with a baseline effect to count as all creature types and tribes.
they have traps that are monsters and not counted as traps, pendulums, archetypes that count or don't count as other archetypes even though it is in the name of the card, and I'm sure there are many more that are even more similar to that. like dark monsters also counting as light monsters and I think there are other ones too
Hey Trell how was Chicago?
One of the most fun duels ever.
Love a good random packs duel makes you think on your feet also a funny duel would to both players to play exodia and only way to win is with the 5 pieces lol
I will never get tired of drafts
I don’t play this game but it’s still interesting to watch you all play!
that yugioh tag force 5 shop musik really reminds me of my 11 yo me playing that game all day
You should try buying 10 boxes of those each then try make a deck. Also that will tell us if we have a actual chance to get a rare card in them.
13:24 subtitles interpreted that as Nutella Knight. Officially what I will refer to them as now XD
