nah it's just absurdly ambient, which is fine but it deviates a lot more from the previous games and rarely does it fill out enough to make memorable songs
Nah I was always less than enthused about 4s ost since the days I played it Felt like a step down from 1 - 3 and Hey because of the more ambient/backgroundy nature it went for
is it odd that pikmin 4's title screen feels like coming home? it's been less than a year and a half since it came out so it's not exactly nostalgic, but something about the fact that it's the music that plays at the beginning of the first big trailer nintendo released brings me back to watching that direct live on heff's stream and freaking out over it being the very first thing they showed

This is such a good video to listen to in the background. On a side note, the Pikmin 4 OST slander hurts my soul but this was still a really nice watch! Thanks for this, Heff!
Im glad im not the only one who thinks most pikmin 4 tracks are just nothing. It feels like they were really banking on the dynamic enemy themes (and the constant oatchi and pikmin noises, and rescue corp barks, and menu noises...) fleshing out the tracks. Also. Not a fan of the sirehound theme. The metal's too jarring, it feels like it came from the binding of isaac ost.
*Quick Hey! Pikmin boss music timestamps because they're total underrated bangers* Vs. Red Bulborb (3:47:50) Vs. Long Water Dumple (3:44:11) Vs. Armurk (3:39:11) Vs. Electric Cottonade (3:40:43) Vs. Queen Shearwig (3:46:54) Vs. Fiery Blowhog (3:43:00) Vs. Luring Slurker (3:46:05) Vs. Emperor Bulblax (3:41:40) Vs. Berserk Leech Hydroe (3:31:42)
I remember the night before I was about to tour the college I would eventually go to and I couldn’t go to sleep so I was listening to the Pikmin iceburg. There was a segment that had the Lushlife Murk play that sent me right to sleep. I will always connect to Hey Pikmin through that song.
Pikmin 4 sacrificed having a lot more unique music for really hammering in on the ambient and dynamic stuff and while it's extremely impressive and fascinating stuff, unfortunately I think it didn't end up being a good trade. Would be fun to see you do a tier list for every enemy theme in Pikmin 4 for like specifically the caves or something. That might be interesting, could show off some of the strengths Pikmin 4's music does have.
for me the S are creature montage, wistful wild, submerged castle, distant spring, rest floor, olimar jellyfloat pool, and olimar flooded stump. maybe pikmin 2 piklopedia too.
Excellent video as always, man. I really enjoyed listening to this as I terraformed in animal crossing, took a shower, studied.. etc. Your vids are perfect for ambience as I'm going about my day. Keep up the excellent work
Something about the sunset version of The Forest Navel hits so hard for me. The way the theme compliments the dimming light source of the cave just gives me an oddly soothing feeling...
To me, the Pikmin OST (entire franchise) straddles the line between being both memorable and forgettable. If a song is playing, I can hum along to it just fine. But if someone were to ask me to recall any one of them (safe for like… 5 themes total), I straight-up would not be able to do it. And I‘m usually exceptionally great at memorizing videogame music, so this comes as quite a shock to me. The only songs I can actually recall off the top of my head are the main theme, the day end theme, the end of day summary, the Mawdad theme (or I guess just the Pikmin 3 boss theme in general; but also every time I get to the „attack the weak point!“ part of the theme, my mind automatically switches over to the Twilight Princess boss theme for some reason) and the Titan Dweevil theme
Now that I‘ve finally finished the video, I may as well give my updated thoughts… yeah, no. Nothing‘s changed. But also, it’s kind of interesting to see how each game‘s music is emblematic of the game as a whole, for lack of a better word (I‘m not a music nerd, so you’re gonna have to excuse my subpar verbiage on this one). Pikmin 1 is all about exploring these unknown, dangerous, but most importantly mysterious locales. The atmosphere is firmly in the foreground here. It fits perfectly for when you’re running around, collecting ship parts, but it ill suits the more video game-y aspects of this… well… video game. The next two games would then double down on one aspect of these tracks, while disincentivizing the other half. Pikmin 2 is a lot more gameplay-focused than it’s predecessor, so the music here is a lot more „standardized“, when compared to the rest of the series. It probably has the highest number of hummable tunes/„bangers“ in the entire series (not including the one very obvious outlier). The atmosphere kinda takes a backseat for what I‘m gonna call „setpiece music“. The music is not there to represent a _vibe,_ but more so to capture a moment. Pikmin 3, however, goes all in on the vibes. It’s vibes or nothing. Just like the game itself. If you don’t like this game’s vibes, you’re gonna dislike it’s music. If you do, it’s probably your favorite soundtrack in the entire series. It may not be particularly catchy, but it does a stellar job at capturing/accompanying the beauty and grandiosity of it’s environments. Hey! Pikmin is an enigma. Nothing makes sense here. This soundtrack does not at all mesh with the general gameplay and vibe of Hey! Pikmin. Honestly, at times it feels like this and the Pikmin 4 OST have accidentally been mixed up and no one bothered to fix it. And lastly, Pikmin 4… hoo boy. What even can I say? It is experimental, gimmicky, and very „toy-like“, for lack of a better word. Just like the rest of the game, I suppose. I‘m nowhere near smart enough to explain my comprehensive thoughts on this game‘s OST. I don’t think it’s bad. It’s just… very weird. Maybe I‘ll have managed to gather my thoughts by tomorrow
Thank you for introducing us to the wonderful world of Hey! Pikmin's OST, truly I was not familiar with its game lol Also the meltdown over Leafy Showdown is still hilarious XD
To be fair to sun speckled terrace, most of the pilmin 2 caves are basically random notes in their base form as well, though caves are probably a better setting for that type of music
Very good list, but as someone who loves "Logs" from Hey! Pikmin, I am heartbroken I didn't get to hear your thoughts on it. I used to jam out to that song
Playing the bad ending music directly after the Olimar battle in Pikmin 4 and giving the bad ending credit for having the same vibes as the Olimar battle is wild.

I remember the limit for chapters is 100 (from the last I checked), which at least, is good enough for like 99% of videos on youtube
“Yeah, I got time”
What a legend
Charlie Theme becomes an S-tier when you add the drowning pikmin beat
This is just what I needed for my 3 hours 51 minutes and 34 seconds study session
Are you studying about pikmin music by any chance
The video that radicalized me against Pikmin 4 musical direction, 10/10
I did'nt need him to realize 4 had a weak Ost.
nah it's just absurdly ambient, which is fine but it deviates a lot more from the previous games and rarely does it fill out enough to make memorable songs
Nah I was always less than enthused about 4s ost since the days I played it
Felt like a step down from 1 - 3 and Hey because of the more ambient/backgroundy nature it went for
The only Pikmin 4 songs I actually like are in Olimar's Shipwreck
thx for including hey pikmin! one of the only things in that game that isn't "Meh" is the music!
I fight for your rights, Hey! Pikmin fan.
is it odd that pikmin 4's title screen feels like coming home? it's been less than a year and a half since it came out so it's not exactly nostalgic, but something about the fact that it's the music that plays at the beginning of the first big trailer nintendo released brings me back to watching that direct live on heff's stream and freaking out over it being the very first thing they showed
Hey Pikmin has an insanely underrated ost, it's soundtrack is honestly up there with the rest of the series!
Wait until the Pikmin Adventure fans comment 😧😂
also a really great video for background as i work on Behemoth’s Market!
no formiddable oak rain theme 😔
Brittany's Theme belongs in the Baba Is You soundtrack.
Pikmin 4 deserved better in the music department, but nooo we get the fucking rescue corp theme like a gazillion times and I didn't even notice until you pointed it out.
Why must you radicalize me against one of if not my favorite game within the past 5 years
This is such a good video to listen to in the background. On a side note, the Pikmin 4 OST slander hurts my soul but this was still a really nice watch! Thanks for this, Heff!
finally someone who appreciates the forest navel as much as I do
Forest navel is awesome! Too bad he didn’t mention the sundown version.
As someone who is obsessed with video game music, THANK YOU.
“Dandori Battle vs. Olimar?” is my favorite theme in the series!
Im glad im not the only one who thinks most pikmin 4 tracks are just nothing. It feels like they were really banking on the dynamic enemy themes (and the constant oatchi and pikmin noises, and rescue corp barks, and menu noises...) fleshing out the tracks.

i always forget how good the pikmin soundtrack is. So many bangers!
People only hate Hey Pikmin because it's different, at least its more canon then fricking Pikmin 4
We’re not doing this shit
Yeah you better include Hey Pikmin mf
Pikmin 4 sacrificed having a lot more unique music for really hammering in on the ambient and dynamic stuff and while it's extremely impressive and fascinating stuff, unfortunately I think it didn't end up being a good trade.

Screamed when I saw this come out. Been WAITING FOR THIS!!!!
i'm 6 minutes in and already the nostalgia listening to some of these goes CRAZY
Something about the sunset version of The Forest Navel hits so hard for me. The way the theme compliments the dimming light source of the cave just gives me an oddly soothing feeling...

This series' soundtrack is the best to sleep to
Bingo battle results sounds suspiciously like undertale music
Thank you for introducing us to the wonderful world of Hey! Pikmin's OST, truly I was not familiar with its game lol
Also the meltdown over Leafy Showdown is still hilarious XD
43:00 creature montage is absolutely S thank you 🙏
Coincidence this coming out right after I check my gaming recap and the epic heff channel being number 5 most watched?
2:57:25 haha this is awesome, this is the picture I took and posted to Reddit when I played Pikmin 4 with Thickmin mod. Had to do a double take 😅

Giants hearth omg. Where the game peaks for me. Why? Because it actually has prominent music in pikmin 4 overworld.
What about Pikmin blooms ost >:(
3:38:32 not my favourite but it gives me vibes from when I was younger.
Interesting how similar to pokemon mystery dungeon music some of them are
I needed to know what HEFF’s opinions
No pikmin bloom!
