No magic circles used! This tutorial is the third in a short series on how to crochet a simple double crochet beanie using a chunky/bulky weight yarn and a 6mm crochet hook, so they work up fast. This video series will include tutorials on all sizes from 0 to adult.
This video is for ages 12 months to 3 years, which will fit up to 19 inches in head circumference. Finished hat circumference is 17 inches.
You will need;
- chunky/bulky weight yarn (size 5)
- J (6.0mm) crochet hook
Gauge;
3 dc to 1 inch

***** So after the last 15 single double crochets in the 5th row I still had 8 stitches left. So I may have improvised a little \. It looks okay so far
I also had 59 stitches so I don't know what I did wrong
And did I mention I just started crocheting Friday
Kayla Davis Hi there! I started crocheting recently too, and I've made lots of mistakes while doing this beanie. Each round I've had to count the stitches, undo a couple and try again. I kept counting until I got it "right". Last week I could only just hold the yarn and hook without dropping everything on the floor! I think we just have to keep going, and things will become more familiar. Stay strong! :)
aksnails Yea I think I've gotten much better now I haven't reattempted this, but I might try it again today and see how it goes.

I made this one for 18mo. It turned out perfect. I got a little nervous a few times and had to go back through the video but I finished my first hat in about 4 hours. My daughter won't wear it but everyone else loves it. This is a great pattern and will be doing more from this page!

This has got to be THE best simple beanie tutorial I have come across.. and I've seen plenty! I was always shown how to do a hat with single crochets increasing for what seemed like ages and no matter how many I made, there was always an issue with losing my count or going wrong somewhere. This turned out perfect the FIRST time and looks fabulous! Thank you so much for such a great video.. I will be sure to check out the rest! :)

I have made beanies for 0-6 months and Adult and i also did Child beanies which i did the same pattern as the adult but with only 9 rows after the first 6 rows instead of 10 like the adult. I couldn't find a pattern to do for kids aged between 6 to 10 so i basically winged it haha. Thankyou for making these videos as they are very helpful and so easy to follow.

Awesome tutorial haven't been wanting to learn the magic ring or anything. Fit my 18month old great! I used a worsted weight yarn and a size i hook the pattern still looked great! Plan on crocheting a beard to attach it :)

Also I am using a chunky yarn by loops and threads which is a number five... I am almost done with this hat but it seems to be working out quite large with this pattern.
