I’m going to add this since Rich Textures Crochet doesn’t seem to be responding to comments about size. Those who say it’s too big, it’s best to chain a length to your own measure. The first chain will be the height of the hat - figure out the height you want and add an inch or so, since the chain will shorten once you crochet into it. This is better than doing exactly the number of stitches she says. I wish she stressed this more, rather than saying the number of stitches. Wool can vary, hook size, tension, so best to measure. You can see the measurements at the start of the video, and also standard hat measurement charts can guide you. I also find that she allows a lot of “negative ease” for the circumference - that is she says for a child, stop crocheting when you’ve reached 15”, but if the child’s head is 20” (standard) that’s 5” of stretch, and if your wool and crocheting isn’t that stretchy, the hat will be too tight. Standard negative ease is 2”. Just stretch it out and see how big a head it will fit.
I wish I had read this comment before crocheting almost the whole hat before realizing it was way too long for my toddler’s head 🤣🤦🏻♀️ So I undid the whole thing and chained to my own measurement. Much better now.
@@amandabarton7030 I'm about to try this hat for my granddaughter (she'll be 3 soon). How long did you make yours and how old is your toddler (asking for comparison). Thanks for any info you can share!

Beautiful!! I have learned how to embroider and stitch 2 years ago but since I’ve had my twin boys it was my dream to learn how to knit 🧶 little hats and scarfs for them and this is absolutely wonderful ❤️❤️❤️
I will say I believe the measurements are not very true to size - I had to shorten my chains tremendously to fit the ages properly. I read another comment that talked about this and it helped me alot. Sarah should be more clear about chaining to your personal desire. Nonetheless I used the video to make multiple hats for gifts! Great video!
I am an ABSOLUTE beginner at crocheting and Is anted to make a hat as my first project. This looks so nice and easy. It’s going to be my first crochet project.
Rich Textures Crochet I started the child size and it waaay too big. I have started making something else, but maybe I will make a hat in a smaller size. I unraveled the child size hat I made ( as I said, it was really big)
I’m just making a suggestion: when the hat is complete, pull both ends of yarn inside, sew in a button if you want to use a fur Pom Pom, the elastic on the Pom Pom can be pulled thru the top of the hat with a crochet hook, then anchored quite firmly around the button on the inside. No wobbly pom poms. Voila!😉 Sue
So enjoyed this pattern and especially they clear way in which you teach. Only have two questions.Which side is the right side. And when I slipped stitched mine together only one side clearly showed the back and front loop of the chain. The other side was not the same. What did I do wrong.

Magic ring method! This is genius! Thanks for sharing this way instead of having a lot of bulk at the top . Cant wait to shart this one . What yarn are u using ? Its beautiful!
I just started crocheting and tried this pattern. I love it and it's super easy. The only issue in running into is my hats are super long. I am going to the width she says to and they are super long. Any advice on this or what am I doing wrong?
It could be simply the yarn you are using. It may be longer if using a different brand/type (even if classified as the same weight) as each yarn works up differently
I am using size 4. Could I be measuring wrong? I've just been using the measuring tool that came with my kit but I'm not sure if there is a certain way?@RichTexturesCrochet
@meganwiseman6294 no you’re probably not measuring wrong, it’s just that the yarn is working up differently. How many stitches are you getting for 4 inches? With the yarn I’m using I got 21 per 4 inches. It is possible to only get 16 stitches for 4 inches in a worsted weight yarn which would make the hat a lot longer and would mean that you should adjust your gauge or your stitch count. I would recommend changing your stitch count if you are not getting the 21 stitches/4 inches and simply work to the desired length (and then add a few more chains)
I didnt know about gauge until recently. Right now I am trying to adjust my hook size to see if that helps because I'm only getting 12 sts per 4 inches
Help anyone….. Does the inches when laid flat mean that is the size before closing it, or after closed? 😢 This a great pattern but I don’t know this part
