Lone drummer at 4:32 ..... it's not his fault. Wait.....I'm a bassist.....it's not mine either. In seriousness - I don't play this kind of music - but since I got my 6 string Ibanez bass Im starting to apply a lot more attention and I like Mark Holcomb's way of talking. Today I am 55. Seems like a good day for drop tuning to me.
I think "un-musical" is the wrong word for it. Music includes both rhythm and melody. I'd say it's just not melodic like someone said in the crowd. Drums are an entirely rhythm-based instrument and they're still musical.
I think he only said that due to the type of audience he was facing. It's what nice people do to try to relate with everyone as much as possible. Mark is a genuinely nice guy.
I think that what he was trying to say was that the part didn't seemed musical even in a percussive perspective due to a less inventive nature of the riff. But not agreeing and finding musicality in there is totally fine.
Yeah I know what you mean, but its just a sign of respect for the older folk I suppose, even if it is belittling yourself in the process. If that makes sense?
Agreed man! If you can hear anything and put rhythm to it, it is musical. What ever you hear = timbre + rhythm = music. Even a drum can be narrowed down to a tuning. Knocking on a door has timbre and can also have a tuning or a note. I think both you gentlemen are correct, it did seem like one of the older guys in front of the camera with the gray hair possibly gave Mark a feeling or something. Just as an example. I do agree, I think he was trying to down talk himself to make them feel better. I do it sometimes to people too, especially for guitar. New guitarists hear me and think I'm just wonderful but I tell them if they put as much time in as I did, they will be even better. I guess reverse psychology maybe?
everyone knows balding 50 year olds love them some djent. rofl. someone needs to make a video splicing him playing with shocked expressions from old people.
Hi I'm planning to get the 2017 model, can you tell me what the fretboard feels like? Jumbo, x-jumbo? Can you tell also why they discontinued the 2016 model and what difference has the 2016 from 2017 thank you
what exactly is the reasoning behind not releasing special editions of their albums with a instrumental version cd? they did it on their first album. i read the same question years ago on jakes askfm and he only replies that its just something theyre not gonna do.
Mark is the best. Humble and talented guy.
Lol, ik, he sounds like Nicholas Cage!😂
I had no idea Nicholas Cage played guitar 🤣
Elephants Stomping is my favorite Periphery song
It's fucking awesome how Mark doesn't hold anything back about sharing his knowledge, he's just a great dude.
2:32 Mark calling out EMGs!
Hey Terry, big fan.
you know guitar and pc hardware >.
No he didn't lol
My stock EMG's on my 7 string muddy ASF
Doesn't his signature prs have emg's?
If Mark Holcomb doesn't know a lot about music theory, then I would love to not know a lot about music theory.
Sir Artorias I like your username referring to Dark Souls. 😉
7 string se mark Holcomb model please!!!
The song is called "Prayer Position", not "Elephants Stomping" lol. But yes, the breakdown does indeed sound like the stomping of an angry elephant.
Queen Gladys Lumanog I came to the comment section specifically to find the name of the song. Thanks.
The description might be made in a bit of jest :)
Paul at the end. "yeah that guy plays the guitars I make...."

Dylan Rose yeah dude but the actual guy is there talking to Mark!
Yeah, you're definitely right!

I've heard they're amazing guitars so more power to them:)

When's this young whipper snapper gonna play some dad blues!?

That song is called "Prayer Position" by Periphery
man, this is gold!!!

Where can i get this awesome shirt ? :D
1:49 I actually discovered that when I was 13 years old. Now I have so many custom chords.
Paul Reed Smith commenting in the background lmfao

The tuning Mark is referring to, is it drop A tuning or does he just turn the lowest string down to A?
Just the lowest string is in A. The rest is 1 step down from E standard tuning.
Pedro Iago that's what drop a is
Vivek T what I call drop A is everything 2.5 steps down from standard, with the lowest string 3.5 steps down from standard.
Vivek T that simply is not what drop A is
suzie q Mastodon does that on a lot of their tunes. Cool tuning to play around with.
Insane.
Chris Cornell called, he wants his face back...
8trigrammer Wow. Good one.
Paul Reed Smith: Great guitars, interview/clinic poison
“Have you thought about a 7 string?” Please tell me that was a joke. XD
We do them!
Off course that was the best 7 string Paul ever played! Wow! lol
ovo nisamja Well, it's probably the only one he's played so, it makes sense.
"I won't name any brands" Noooooo tell us what pickups you use!! :D
He uses seymour duncan Alpha and Omega Pickups. His PRS signature guitars also come equipped with them :)
Cheers dude :)
They're Seymour Duncan Alpha Omega set.
he uses seymour duncan alpha/omega
Mark has his signature Seymour Duncan Alpha & Omega pickups in his guitars, but he was basically calling out EMG's with that statement.
everybody uses fractals now. soon we are going to split the cabinet in two.
I'm the 666th like haha
Dude, sabbath had the whole down tune thing down since the 70s
yes. yes, they did.
Jeo The Raucous down tuning and drop tuning are different.
