If we are all completely random then how do parallel universes fit into it? Or is every different universe really just fitted into a dice of all possibilities?
@@sebtaylor6414 hey iknow its been nearly a year since you have commented but if you are still wondering there are much cleaner ways to explain quantum randomness than other universes I would recommend looking at the wave function collapse hypothesis
@@sebtaylor6414That is the multiple universe interpretation. Where every single time a proverbial dice is thrown. Another universe is created where it landed on another face. So every single time an particle is observed or collapses into 1 probability, then a bunch of other universes are created where the probability collapsed differently. Meaning all probability’s happen at once but in different universes we will never have access to. For example in schrodinger’s cat. The cat may die in our universe, but in another universe the cat is alive.
All the dice randomness reminded me of Gravity Falls, "The Infinity Sided Die". Even though the possibilities are endless, "You'd be surprised to see how many times you roll a seven"
Correct , plus , you would need a microscope to observe the result , and it would have to be infinitely big to hold all number even if each one was written on a single atom and it's randomness would be destroyed after just one roll .
I have bad news. You must have crossed the event horizon of science. There's no way out. You now inevitably race towards the singularity - a point in space and time in which you'd possess the complete knowledge of life, universe and everything. But don't worry - you'll reach that point only after infinite time, so your journey will last forever.
OMG that weirdo was such creeps but kinda cute hahaha, we should totally go back and like flash him or stuff. I know like I'm so totally super duperly random

Another 50c fact: the original 50c coins in 1966 were round and 80% silver. They're worth a lot more than 50c each now because they each contain about a third of an ounce of silver. They're still legal tender but rarely show up in circulation unless an old lady finds a jar of them in a closet or something.

***** I was just saying that when Micheal quoted Einstein with 'God is rolling dice with the universe' would cause lots of flame wars. Luckily it didn't. I've seen many Christian/atheist flame wars because a few words in one video, and that Einstein quote didn't cause any.
In Indian history their is a very long and wide story (which contains many events in it one by one and also many parallel that's why wide) named 'Mahabharat' also referred as 'Bharat'. just like the machine said in this video that can flip a coin and also roll a die in an exact way to give output as number intended, their is a man in this story. Much before the great war between Kauravs and Pandavs began, there was a 'dyut' (game of dies) between them. In this game on the Kaurav's side this man named 'Shakunee' was rolling dies for them. by listening to the rattling sounds of the two dies he could determine the number of the upcoming roll. and also he could decide the number that was to be shown on the dies. so as the need of the game he could generate the number on the die and so always won the game.
Jason Montly Does good and evil truly exist outside of ourselves the same can go law and order, Do all those things exist outside of are preception of the world?
John Hickens no, good and evil is simply relative and law and order is a fabrication of primitive humans who refuse to admit that they have no idea what they're doing. We're all just children running around aimlessly and that scares us. This is also the origin if the belief if God and the need for celebrities and government. We believe that there is always a higher power, and in doing so handicap our true potential. At least that's my opinion.

So when does the first quantum casino open? Funnily, it will never happen, because the key factor to a successful casino is that its games aren't random.
JustusLM The key is to have the odds in your favor, but still be as random as you can possibly be to remain fair. Basically, design the game in such a way where the odds are very slightly in your favor, and where each turn is completely random, so that there's no way to predict the results.
Fuck Politics Yea, but if you hit 21, the possible payout is also huge. It nearly balances out. It's all about the value of the bet. Consider betting on black or red. If you lose, the house gets your money and if you win, you get the amount you bet from the house. Seems fair, right? A 50/50 bet where should either one lose, they lose the same amount of money. Should be completely random as to who ends up with the most money, right? But the thing is, there's the green. It's neither black nor red, so if I bet on black, I actually only have a bit less than a 50/50 chance to win. This slight tilt in the odds is what statistically guarantees that the house will always win in the long run, as the odds are ever so slightly in their favor.
"what even are words? And more importantly, who's to say they're the first? What *is* the first? Of what?" Goes on to theorize the start of the universe, prophesies, reincarnation, and explain the meaning and purpose of words in great linguistic detail
I last watched this video when I was in secondary school and I was mind blown! I am taking Information and Coding Theory classes and it all makes so much sense :) Can't thank you enough for making these amazing videos
I had a long conversation with someone that doesn't solve a Rubik's Cube (I'm a cuber). He argued that if he were to 'randomly' turn faces he would eventually solve it. I argued that once he saw pieces going into place it's no longer random. Because he would SEE it's not random anymore. I calculated (somewhat calculated) with other cubers that it would take on average 176 billion years at a rate of 5 turns per second (that's fast) for a person to randomly turn a Rubik's Cube into a solved state. That is if the person turning the layers is blindfolded and another person watches then stops him/her from turning when it is solved. The average is 176 billion years... but it could take anywhere from 2 seconds to not infinitely long.
Its like the infinite monkey theorem, typewriting a Shakespeare play - every key press, or state, is as random as the previous state and even if the monkeys is character away from the complete play, one wrong key press will just ruin all that hard work
"He argued that if he were to 'randomly' turn faces he would eventually solve it." Well, that's not wrong. If what he saw didn't affect his decisions of which faces to turn, meaning STAYING random, then he's gonna eventually solve it.
TH-cam algorithm randomly recommended a video discussing randomness and I clicked at random, someone might have randomly made a comment similar to mine, or did they !?
@@stianovesen what if he used a software that clicks on a video listed on the screen randomly by generating a number based on an electron's spin measured at the time?
Michael: Randomly appears in TH-cam recommendations and randomly starts talking about randomness, while sitting on a bench with the most random thing written on it (4:00). Also Michael: Nothing is random. ... Or is it?
I saw plans for a number generator that appeared random. It was a high speed counter. Since no human can know where the counter is in its cycle, stopping the counter gives an unpredictable number appearing to be random. When people can act within 0.001 seconds or faster, then it won't be "random".
***** The results of which are determined by the movement of gluon particles. Which if we could track we could guess the results. Much like the coin, we just can't see what effects the result; Yet.
Yeah the whole thing with Quantum Particles when you observe them they'll be in state A,B,C,D... and there aren't any factors (none that anyone has found) contributing to the resulting state. Which is why Quantum Particle States are considered Truly Random
BlankKnight But this is still something were are learning more and more about. We can't say just because we don't understand it fully that there is a conclusive answer until then. It may be "random" for now to some extent, but that is not because we fully understand it but just the opposite.
But what IS death? Is it when the heart stops beating? Or is it when the brain stops working? How do we know that it is the brain that is our consciousness and not something else? How do we know that the death of the body means the death if the conscious and conversely, how do we know that it is not the death of the conscious?
+anthemlog Yeah just because we are a very tiny part of the universe doesnt mean life isnt important! We are inorganic matter that is assembled in a certain way that lets us have free will!
+Jason Burge Being intrinsically tied to the fourth dimension immediately takes away the fact that we have free will. The fourth dimension is made up of every moment in time happening at once, making a solid structure. Everything is predetermined according to the structure of the fourth dimension. We are merely shadows of a higher dimension. Also, we do contain organic matter.
All you people blowing up about Michael saying "God" in this video: Is the idea of a being greater than you so offensive to you that the mention of His name makes you cringe? Another thing, if you don't like us sharing our beliefs, then you can't share yours. So why don't WE ALL grow up and learn how to communicate as mature human beings? Honestly...
Fine I'll answer even though I haven't seen many comments about it. Yup. Religion and religious people make me cringe. Maybe it's you who need to grow up if you honestly believe in something as silly as a god.

DeLemonLikerGames loved that show
Correct , plus , you would need a microscope to observe the result , and it would have to be infinitely big to hold all number even if each one was written on a single atom and it's randomness would be destroyed after just one roll .

I have bad news. You must have crossed the event horizon of science. There's no way out. But don't worry - you'll reach that point only after infinite time, so your journey will last forever.

What is random? and how much does it weigh?

John Hickens no, good and evil is simply relative and law and order is a fabrication of primitive humans who refuse to admit that they have no idea what they're doing. We're all just children running around aimlessly and that scares us. This is also the origin if the belief if God and the need for celebrities and government. We believe that there is always a higher power, and in doing so handicap our true potential. At least that's my opinion.

So when does the first quantum casino open?
Funnily, it will never happen, because the key factor to a successful casino is that its games aren't random.
A company makes Quantum random number generators used for gambling. ID Quantique, based in Switzerland. They cost up to €2,990. :)
JustusLM The key is to have the odds in your favor, but still be as random as you can possibly be to remain fair. Basically, design the game in such a way where the odds are very slightly in your favor, and where each turn is completely random, so that there's no way to predict the results.
Hyde slightly or mostly? Striking 21 is very improbable.
Hyde the "possible payout" is still less than the actual payout. Casinos are genius business models that thrive on taking stupid drunk people's money.

I last watched this video when I was in secondary school and I was mind blown! I am taking Information and Coding Theory classes and it all makes so much sense :)
Can't thank you enough for making these amazing videos
Its like the infinite monkey theorem, typewriting a Shakespeare play - every key press, or state, is as random as the previous state and even if the monkeys is character away from the complete play, one wrong key press will just ruin all that hard work
"He argued that if he were to 'randomly' turn faces he would eventually solve it."
Well, that's not wrong. If what he saw didn't affect his decisions of which faces to turn, meaning STAYING random, then he's gonna eventually solve it.

I saw plans for a number generator that appeared random. It was a high speed counter. Since no human can know where the counter is in its cycle, stopping the counter gives an unpredictable number appearing to be random. When people can act within 0.001 seconds or faster, then it won't be "random".

Yeah the whole thing with Quantum Particles when you observe them they'll be in state A,B,C,D... and there aren't any factors (none that anyone has found) contributing to the resulting state.
Which is why Quantum Particle States are considered Truly Random

But this is still something were are learning more and more about. We can't say just because we don't understand it fully that there is a conclusive answer until then.

Also, we do contain organic matter.
