  • Episode 81:
    In this video we do a technical dive into making the Losi Promoto-MX faster. There are a couple of knobs to turn to make this motorcycle faster and we explore one of them in designing and 3D printing some custom parts for the drivetrain. We hit some record speeds for our bike and look to the future to going even faster.
    How fast have you gotten your Losi Promoto-MX? Or any other rc motorcycle for that matter.

    Subscribed, look forward to seeing what you got up your sleeve next. I got mine to 52 mph on a runway with a 22t Robinson pinion and ran my stock tires on a lathe to make them slicks. You have to make a wooden 2-piece wheel that clamps the tire to put it on a lathe. The knobby tires cause a lot of drag on concrete. I hope the Super Moto wheels show up soon. I have a 5200kv motor that fits. I want to build an 80mph+ Supermoto. It's very stable with slick tires on concrete. BTW, You can put the tire and wheel in simmering to water for 15 minutes and it will break the glue bead without ruining the tire or wheel. Just don't go into a high boil just a simmer. It's how I removed mine to mount the tire to a wooden 2-piece wheel to put on a lathe.

      That’s awesome! Thanks for the tips on the glued up tires. Have you run into any issues with the speed controller cutting out on you with the taller gearing?

    That is cool and I am glad everything held up well for the testing. I am kind of surprised the sprocket held up so well but I guess the stress on it is shared over 1/2 of the teeth at one time so it should. It probably helped too it was very close to the same diameter of the hub. Much larger and deflection may become an issue more. Either way congrats on blasting it up over 50mph! It did not take you long to dig in and start experimenting! LOL!

    Do you know what the absolute maximum battery dimensions are? I can see the recommended G2 LiPo is (LxWxH) 138 x 46 x 25 mm but no idea if there's any room whatsoever for a bigger sized battery. They don't arrive in the UK until August so there's still a fair bit of waiting and prep to be done!

    Great mods Brice. Can you gain much by squeezing a larger O.D. rear wheel/tire? Looks like longer swing arm would be needed, but hey, more speed by any means necessary, right?😄 -Tom

  • @leethomas769

    Just curious how changing the pinion on the motor will effect speed if at all. Did you try changing the pinion before doing the sprocket. If not will be good to see what you get with different pinion as well. Awesome work by the way everyone has been wanting to see what is needed to get more
    Speed.

    • @jack-o-trades
      @jack-o-trades  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can’t really drastically change the pinion. There doesn’t appear to be a whole lot of room to move the motor around as the result of a pinion change. There are short slots in the motor plate for setting the gear mesh. You might be able to move up or down 1-2 teeth if even that, but that would be it.

    • @FarmerFpv
      @FarmerFpv ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jack-o-trades You can fit up to a 24T pinion with no issue. Going up just 1 or 2 teeth on a pinion is a lot. I went 22T on mine. Stock is 20T

      Good to hear. I’ll have to give this a go as well. I’m having problems right now with the speed controller cutting out when I try to ramp up the throttle. It seems like it happens at 3/4 throttle. Any thoughts on why? Over current protection maybe?

    I can't quite figure out if the motorcycle recovers when you put the steering wheel in neutral like a car? or if you have to maneuver the steering wheel to get the motorcycle back upright like an airplane? Make a demo please with the remote in the frame Thanks. I have THE SR5 super rider and you need to maneuver the steering wheel to get the motorcycle back upright

    • @matthewolson1295

    • @jack-o-trades
      @jack-o-trades  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gears aren’t available and it would be somewhat drastic as you would need to swap out a minimum of two different gears (eg pinion/slipper-spur) as the motor doesn’t have a lot of adjustment. I do have a 130c pack I can try.

  • @carltondixon8539

    • @jack-o-trades
      @jack-o-trades  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely something to try. I do like the idea of being able to swap out and play with the gearing. I also feel that the gearing is easier to swap out than a motor but it's not for everyone.
