Jason there is no link to the Construction Company Digital Toolbox or it doesn't work.
That’s weird. I just tapped on it and it opened?
Use the link in the comment above.
Jason I'm sorry that link does work. I was confused. I am looking for the make and model of the laser level you had in the video. Do you have that. Or is it somewhere in the link you have up. I'll keep looking.

Absolutely LOVE Connecteam. Only affordable platform I could find, delivering WAY over what I expected and needed. HUGE THUMBS UP!
you are a hero, my friend. Calling her an employee!
I love that these guys are buddies away from the job site as well. Jamie comes across as a stickler sometimes but you can tell he’s a good friend
I love how it’s a “mess of a shop” and you can see the floor. That’s so sweet.
lol!!!
13 years after I retired and sold off everything out of my 2 car garage, it was so full I used to say that I had to exit the garage to change my mind. Most jobs would end up out on the driveway which was concrete so I was only hindered by the rain (in Houston)
Man Arlo is giving out great constructing hacks
What? He marks out 3ft, drills, screws and then measures another 16ft from said screw. Can’t folks add 3 and 16 and just mark at 19ft.
I put the screws in at 3 feet and then 16 feet for that so I had something to attach my string line to so I could pull the strings for my post. Yes I can add 16+3 it’s 18! Lol.
@@Building_Jays_Way measure twice and cut once, and its still too short.
Jaime’s The Best, helping a friend out in his spare time, which He probably doesn’t have much of! ❤
Jason i have to say you are the most real down to earth guy on the platform. You are just a good dude making it and we are here for the ride. Cheers
That is so awesome to hear! Thank you
Omg! Jason has his own channel? !!!
He’s the entire Reason I watch the other channel🙏🏻
Sweet!!
The joke about Perkins’ tool renting service will never get old 😂 Love all your projects man 👏🏼
Thanks
It’s impressive to see how much Jay has learned over the last couple years. GROWTH
Exactly what I was thinking. Fun to watch him !
Working alone on a hard job can be demoralizing. Sure wish you a had a partner to tackle these tough tasks together. Ray, looking your way.
I'm laughing so much by that ad. If that is an old road bed the compaction is 95% proctor all the way.
Bob is a trooper.
23:46 I'm not certain if it's for the entertainment or you really don't trust yourself.
Jay, you construct very well AND abide by code (for the most part).
There's nothing wrong with your build. (Jamie has blessed it).
You are smart & conscientious about what you are doing.
4’ OC posts! That’s stout as shit! I build post frame buildings and we run 6x6 posts at 10’ to 12’ OC, with a doubled 2x12 or LVL. That 4’ span will never sag, you’ll be set for life!
Perfect!!
The TH-cam rabbit hole sometimes leads you to great places.
I discovered Perkins channel a couple of months ago and have been chewing through their playlists, until just the other day I saw the vid Building A House Start To Finish | Episode 24 from 3 years ago where they mention Ray & Jay, and from there to this vid.
Great work, Jay!
Learning from such experienced and generous masters of the craft as Jamie & Arlo is the best experience, and it shows in your work!
When jay went to the rental store "AKA" Jamie's house i busted out laughn. I shoulda known that's where he was headed. 😂😂😂😂😂 !!!!!
13:10 That Connecteam advert just about turned into an action, murder, thriller there, Jay. You know, there are far less painful ways to get hurt, my man. 😂🤣😆
Lol!!
😂
I am in my 60s now I'm Brent Cowgar I used to flip homes with my wife would give about anything to work one day with you. Y'all are so funny and get the job done nice. To cool brother love y'all 😅😅
Thanks Brent!! That’s nice to hear!
My Sundays, in the UK, are complete, with you on Jay's Way and Perkins Builder Brothers, I get all the building fun n facts I need to set me up for the week, thank you all. I said I'd copy and paste this over on your channel Jay, I did edit it so it's yours to read.. it's Sunday! I'm being lazy! LOL Great start on the garage extention Jay.
When we build retaining walls, we:
1) Stake a line, just as you did
2) Dig all the holes in a row
3) Set the first and last posts
4) Pull a string line between the first and last post, but tape a carpenters pencil to those two posts and have the string rest on the pencils
5) As you work on setting posts through the middle, have them offset from the string the width of the carpenters pencil
5.5) Double check the offset of the post and string by sliding your own pencil between the post and string till it barely touches.
Mr. Jay, quit talking down on yourself. You have your own God-given talents, insights, and abilities. You work hard 😅
Thank you!!!
I like your detail, J. It'll allow others to learn step by step how it's done. It also looks really nice already.
It's so nice you have Jamie and Eric as good friends. Too include all the others. Way to go J.
Jason, your level of video production has drastically levelled up. I can see the thought process and effort, and creative ways to capture your work coming through. Each video gets better and better. I cant stress that enough. And the fact youre doing projects that all of us will do, or plan to do, or dream of doing - on our own property someday - its a huge bonus for me. If I can offer some small small criticism, its that your mic is a little loud, and muffled sometimes. May be a result of the improvements you've made lately. Well done again brother, cheers!
Thank you very much that’s very nice
As an avid D.I.Y’r I’m fascinated by your building techniques and carpentry skills. It’s given me all the confidence to try these techniques on my own property here in Wales U.K. I’m hooked on all your videos and count down the days to the next in all the series. What a close bond you have between each other. Keep it up.
Awesome to hear! Thanks.
Part of the Perkins Building Universe
Lol too funny, I was just thinking to myself, put some nails or screws into the bottom end of the posts for something for the concrete to grab. Not 5 seconds later there’s the clip of the nails in the posts 😂
Great minds think alike. I was referring to yours and Arlos! Lol
Jay - you got Eric's Laser Eye!!!
Around here, we put gravel in the bottom of post holes for drainage. Otherwise, water will sit on top of the concrete, soaking into the end grain of the post, accelerating rot.
Of course, we're going 48" to get below frost line, so life is easy in N.C.
Your eyes…oh my…I love every one on the show, but you make everything seem like magic!
You got it Jay.Don't doubt yourself.with advice from Jaime you got it.those Perkins brothers are the best at what they do. (Genius)👍
Hellllllo! Coool butt project !
Excited you making a shop for yourself
@16:55 that looks just like some good ol' Georgia clay! I don't envy you for having to dig through all of that...
Yeah, it sucked!
Pretty awesome for being by yourself, S.A. TX wishes we could have given you a hand😂
Nice work buddy!!
Thanks I appreciate it!
One trick I use when the ground is too hard to hammer in a footing pin… take a 5/8” hammer drill bit and start it into the ground where the pin will go. Gives a good head start 😅
Would have been 3 4x4 posts at my house, but looks solid. I suggest throwing a tarp down next time you dig, and keep the dirt out of your washed stone. Weeds will show up next year probably.
Love your channel brother. Just a note though I would double check with Arlo on that trick. If your string line is not parallel to the existing wall the trick will still work but it just tells you where the perpendicular bisector of that wall will intersect your string line (aka center). Comes from a pencil compass. But it doesn’t tell you if your string line is parallel to the wall or not, just helps you find center. I would pull diagonals to your 8’ marks to double check maybe I’m wrong!
Still I’m sure it’s close enough for what you need and can’t wait for the next video!!! Keep up the great videos brother!!
Yeah I should’ve pulled diagonals. I didn’t think of it at the time. But like you said I think it’s good enough for this application. Thanks for watching
Great 1st episode on your new shop and great attitude!
Great work. We will continue watching your channel & PerkinsBuilderBrothers but we hope Ray has a channel to.
I hope Perkins brother are giving you extra credit for doing practice jobs at home! Just to learn for the job site😊
Pay raise! Lol
9:02 with your tape being slightly diagonal to the building, you will be slightly short of 14’
Not by much, though…with huge lumber like 6x6 , you can hide the difference perhaps.
You got heart taking these projects on solo. Hang in there!
Looking forward to episode 2. TY.
Fill ya holes up with concrete and put concrete post supports in. Less work, easier on ya back and much easier to square and level up
Love it ! “Tool Rental Place”. 😂
Jay a Carport without walls and and a door is not weather proof. You might want to think about the wind and snow. I fully understand not being motivated to make a garage. If you stop now and keep what you have, no exertion needed 💯 👌
This should be a really interesting project for you Jay can't wait to see your Videos
Hi , as always a fantastic video with great ideas along the way , I had to roll the video back a few times as I see u said that wood could have a wank in it, am from across the pond in the Uk, plse look up what that means as I fell of my chair laughing , ur see why when u look the meaning up , LMAO, then noticed Jamie said it as well , classic and really made me laugh thks again for thr awesome videos and the amount of huge pride u take in ur work
Man an auger would be a great machine rental for you also and make light work of those post holes
Love that trick for finding the center point on the wall.
I love how these guys have their own channels, but like. Guest star in each others channels. They don't seem like just coworkers, but actual friends who are there to help each other out. :)
Cool video Jay and a great start to an awesome project! Post hole digger... just looking at one of those tools gives me blisters 😁
Thanks for watching!!! Hope y’all are doing great!
helllllo StudPack ... been great watching your latest toooo
I really like this guy doing it himself!
Jay, you are the legend! Appreciate this personal measure of “perfect”, it’s really cool to have this kind of internal agreement on reliable quality❤
Looking good Jay. It will make a great home for the mower and golf kart 👍
Well done, Jason! Tough job all by yourself but you pulled it off, man! Awesome!
You should get Jamie to cut you out some ornamental steel plates to attach the overhead beam to the posts with lag bolts.
I could have used Arlo's hack A while back. Hopefully I can remember it when I need it.
I'm impressed Jay! Really wonderful job getting those 6x6s square and plumb ... all by yourself!
I knew exactly where he was going when he said local tool rental 😂
Absolutely one of your best series so far. Really looking forward to the next video. Keep it up Jay.
good job Jays very nice
GREAT JOB, ENJOY YOUR CHANNEL🔨🪚 Vinny 🇺🇸
Jay, add a spud bar to your tool inventory. Great for busting-up rocks/roots that get in your way when digging post holes by hand. Enjoyed your video--see ya on the next one.
The tool rental place was a nice twist 😂😂. Heard their employees are awesome folks
I think that audio quality could be better. But one thing is true, sometimes I can't watch Perkins Builder Brothers' video in one go, even though they are shorter, but this one I watched entirely and enjoyed every second of it. You're one man show, and I find that more relatable
Thanks!!
Well done you silly boy, cant wait to see the next part.
Jay, I'm impressed with your building skills. Good job, always learning new things.
I learnt three good tricks watching this. The first was how to check square other than the 3,4,5, method, the nails into the sides of the post to stop lateral movement and the laser level at any height and then measure up. Just hope I can remember them if I end up doing something in the future. BTW i felt the pain of having to dig those post holes.
Jaime is a good friend
👍
Nice job Jay ....... You are learning my friend . The way you worked the commercial into your work was impressive . I love the way you allow your wife to be involved ..... Arlos your dad ? I can see a whole new mini series developing from that story !
Thank you very much! No, Arlo is not my dad. He is just a guy that we work with.
LOL .....@@Building_Jays_Way
Jay, I must have missed something along the way, is the add-on to the garage going to be like a storage area for your riding mower and other machinery, thus making room in the garage to transform into your wood-shop? (work-shop)
Or, is the add-on going to be your new little work-shop?
I guess either way it's going to be awesome having the room you need to work in w/o having to move stuff around. Having a stationary place for your skill-saw and other tools is important! 😊👍
Yes the add-on is for my golf cart lawnmower chainsaws gas cans all that crap that doesn’t need to be in the garage. I’m going to turn the existing garage into more of a shop because I have power lights outlets etc.
Charlie the cutest furry inspector / supervisor ever. ❤
I'm thinking that renting a power auger would have been money well spent. I rented one for the deck around my pool - 15 holes and back to the rental store in less than 4 hours!
Yeah!! I do complain but also like the workout!!
Jamie is a real carpenter !!!
Jay this Video a very good Guidance, self a Garage to building! That You this Perfect make, not a Wonder. This Your Work. Greeting from Austria 🇦🇹
Four feet long n centers is rough digging there. But this will be the strongest lean to I have seen!
Yeah baby!!
Awesome project! Hi Jason HI Steph Hi Jaime Hi Arlo Hi Ray
Helllo You! It’s Me You
Hello to you and the family!
@@stephanieellis1811 Doing a great job on the promos in the vids ... family says HI!
Everyone needs a Bob in their life, oh and an Arlo.
A## You are proving yourself to being a good student Jay. The Perkins crew should be proud.
5 6x6's on a 16ft lean-to. Dang!!!
Go big or go home, right!
I hear ya...
Thanks for the laser level tip! I am sure I will need it in the future. Nice build!
Nice work Jay, i got a good laugh out of you saying your heading to the local tool hire shop only to see yih pulling up to Jamie's 😂
Liking the square trick…getting ready to build a workshop by myself too,,,,that’ll really help.
Good luck!
Yeahhhhh! We've been waiting for this!
Hello from Ohio I'm new to your channel I enjoy your video
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Next build a home gym 👍🙂
I think that’s in the works
Jay, I've been watching you for years with Perkins Bros. Outstanding start to your project. You earned my subscription........
Thanks Carl!
I’m building a house myself... and it’s big 🙄 Watching you go it alone gives me inspiration.
pull that 192 bottom and top cheers
Great job. We are from Green Bay Wisconsin love the work you guys do. We started watching the Perkins Brothers builders, now we watch your channel too.😂😊
Awesome to hear. Thanks!
Nice work Jay!!!🎉
We’ve just dug up a fence with treated posts put in the ground 30 years ago. The posts are like as new condition, guess the treatment then in NZ was excellent.
That’s good to hear!
@Building_Jays_Way Thanks for the Porta john plug bro! Lol. Finally, i’d been looking through videos for weeks looking for that random plug again. Finally seen the recent john suck plug 😂 cheers man
Keep going Jason. You are getting better and better! I really enjoy your videos!
Thank you that’s nice to hear
awesome jay
Looking really good. Having a dedicated workshop is great to have every thing in its place. I have a 14'x14' concrete base with a 14' x 8' workshop close to the base. Living halfway up a mountain where everything is a slope having flat areas is a blessing 😂. Rather than having 16" centres for the roof supports I would have thought 24" centres was sufficiently strong for a non-load roof. That would mean having 8 supports instead of 12, saving both time and money. Still you've probably built it by now 😂😂😂 Regards to you and your family / employees 😂 great post, thank you 🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨
Jason you are a amazing carpenter love your channel
Thanks.
Great building, not-so-great-distortion.
Excellent! I am looking forward to following this well scripted, produced, and edited Jay’s Way build. Each of your videos continues to demonstrate your improved skill-base and growing self-confidence. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Totally agree, a 37min video usually is a hard to swallow pill, but this video was so well scripted it was really fun to watch from start to end.
Jay, I'm sat in my sofa in England, recovering from COVID again. Its cold and wet outside, video's like yours are a godsend, great looking build. Just the sort of thing a hobby builder can do at his home. Keep up the good work.
Sorry to hear about the Covid thing! Hope you’re feeling better. Thanks for watching. Love it.
