The distorted riffing is paying homage to Deftones, the thumping flair is a bit of that Polyphia classic style while also paying it to Animals as Leaders, the pioneers of that technique in prog, and the Scottie solo is using a bit of Scottie's usual distorted harmonic minor kind of flair, while also paying homage to Pantera and Dimebag's similar style with the pinch harmonics and scales he uses.
i never really gave deftones a chance back in the day... this song made me realize my mistake... i will be rectifying my self-negligence for the foreseeable future.
In an interview Tim said that when they got the vocal track back from Chino, Scott decided to completely redo the song to match the vocals. So in that way you are right when you said the song was written for the vocals. And the final solo is a Scott solo inspired by Dimebag/Pantera.
I believe Polyphia is on the top of their game now. I think this is their climax, this album. It's like. This is when they either dissappear off the face of the earth or go stale lol
They are busting open a new genre into mainstream metal. I don't think this is their peak. I think this is them testing the waters with a little change
there are certain individuals that i've learned not to underestimate... this band contains 4 of those individuals... this is possibly just the beginning.
@@olecrawfish hip hop beats with modern metal 8 string riffs work pretty well. But that clean tapping from Tim also sets this apart. Everything just mixes well.
If only the lyrics were at least ok . But its not like their lyrics are the worst on the mainstream scene , but still , with how complicated their instrumentals are , those goofy lyrics are kinda strange . Except for this track , this track had solid lyrics
Correct sir, that is a Scottie solo and so sweet it is 😎
Just Chino doing Chino things :)
What a legend

That's how it was for me until I started this channel and realized the error of my ways lol you won't be disappointed!
Try the White Pony album. His vocals on this song remind me very much of that.
Cynic's Focus album is definitely one worth reacting to. Jazz fusion mixed with progressive death metal back in 93'.

you have a unique quality that i can't quite put my finger on... but i dig it... subbed.
You gotta check out Crosses, it’s Chino’s other band, they have several new music videos!
I didn’t know Joel haver did reactions
I still think Renaissance is their best, but this is definitely a close second.
Not bass. It's an 8 string guitar using tapping technique.

@@olecrawfish I agree with you, this is NOT their peak, just the beginning of a new chapter. Watch their livestreams and bts, it's very evident.
