Fun thing about this video is that every time you see them in a new room or setting, you'll notice they keep progressively going up floors in the building. The higher up they go the more intense and difficult the song gets. Until they finally reach the top, which is where the master himself is waiting to receive them, seated on his throne. The whole video builds to them meeting Steve vai at the top of the guitar game, and being accepted by him as having reached that status. Honestly such an awesome visual analogy of musicians that hold each other in the highest of respects.

I also like how Steve played his part like he is just another member of the band. Nothing over the top or anything crazy (for him). He just complimented the song.

I had the same interpretation, really well done by them - I also think that the very end, when they are admiring in silence a trumpet melody, gives a suggestion that they all consider melody (not shred) being the pinnacle of music, which seems true for how both Polyphia and Vai approach music.

Vai's solo is so damn Steve Vai. You know he could shred the boys to pieces, but he just sings along with the melody and only shreds a view notes to highlight Clays insane drum links betwen parts.
    Guy is a legend.

    • @jojoversus1100
      @jojoversus1100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could he, though?
Could he "shred them into pieces"?
because all I see here is a lazy walker making a bunch of noise. I've seen Crossroads, I know Vai can shred, but this sh*t was just lazy, slow, weak, & noisy. Honestly a terrible solo.
Just, let me ask you this: Do you think there will ever be a point where you could "sing" Vai's solo? It's a known trick when learning to play a solo, it's smart to learn to "sing" it to yourself so you have the notes & structure memorized. Do you think you could memorize this noisy mess?

@@scottzimmermann9431 for me it`s the "whammy abuse" to "damn noises" part. The notes he is playing are easy, but the vibrato, whammy, and synthy guitar sounds make it so unique. xD the scrapes are so you thought that was cool? look what comes next which is basically Steve Vai in a nutshell.

I liked them to begin with. Idk what it is.. when every song is on that insanely technical and intricate, yet repetitive plane.. it just goes from amazing to boring and every song kinda sounding the same. A couple flashy songs to show off your talent is one thing.. but to do it every song... Sometimes, less really is more.

the more i listen to this the more i fall in love with how much of an homage it is to the polyphia journey. There are clear bits of both muse and most hated in there, plus great darker harmonic minors that provided the backbone on NLND and the acoustic riff of the remember that you will die. Vai's solo was just lovely as he did so much classic steve vai shit, with a new level of whammy abuse, fitting into the pocket of the song and raising the bar. The final jam with the three of them baack to back felt like a g3 crescendo. What cannot be understated is just HOW WELL the two clay's play off each other. Gober especially does the simple stuff so fucking well, and knows how to bring in the fuel for the guitarists' fire

This is my favourite polyphia song in a long while. So many throwbacks to renaissance and previous while still incorporating the new nylon strum style and more recent inspirations. Then you have STEVE FUCKING VAI. And then such a clean trumpet part in the end which I kinda wish was incorporated more into the song

Many if not everybody, they're missing the meaning on why the Brasstracks guy comes last even after Steve. Steve is the precursor to their style(Polyphia) and the trumpetist is the user of the instruments and genre that is the precursor to all of them(since Rock and Roll and all its branches descend from African beats and jazz, among others), so this piece to me is a beautiful ode and tribute to Rock. When I first heard it and thought the song was ending, then the trumpet came in...man, I was emotional that day and I got chills and cried a little on how good it sounded, what a masterpiece!

I don't think it would've made sense for Steve to do lots of technical stuff, considering both guitarists (all the musicians actually) already have ridiculously technical parts in the song. It would've sounded too crowded and it'd be impossible to balance all three parts without confusing the listener.
So Steve's part in this song is more of a over-arching melodic line that compliments the already fast, technical stuff underneath it (and vice-versa). I think they did a pretty great job with the song's arrangement.

ok, first we see tim sitting on the throne, then we see scott also sitting on the throne, they consider themselves the king of the guitar, until finally at the top (roof top) they meet steve sitting on the throne, see steve playing guitar they end up killing their ego (EGO DEATH) and admit that Steve is the real guitar king, but at the end of the video we see they are all greeted with trumpets, we know that trumpets are usually used to welcome kings when they enter the kingdom (in the end all of them are kings).

What I love about this is that is starts off simple, getting more and more technically complex until Steve sort of strikes back at their chops playing a part that sounds deceptively simple until you actually try to understand the technique behind it, as if to say "Hey, that's pretty damn cool. But watch THIS." It's a progression from a journeyman to a working artist to a master in their field. But in the end, it all comes back to the original motif, being played completely plain on a horn. It's devoid of any apparent technical difficulty, and yet that plain ending is what ties the whole thing together - the feeling of music at its simplest, rawest form.
And that's because with such a simple piece, the artist can fully infuse each and every note with feeling and meaning. How? Why? Because contained in that simple progression of notes is THE ENTIRE rest of the song. All of it stems from that leitmotif. And the right leitmotif can make you cry, or laugh, or sit down and think. The connection you get with a song that transcends your physical existence? That's when your ego, your sense of self, falls away. That is TRUE ego death.
