People think you can find EVERYTHING on the internet, and these videos are a good reminder that someone like Dale has to find interesting tidbits and bring them to the internet one by one.
Also those aluminum parts look so well made for something as disposable as a grenade...

@@DaletheStgwDude No, thank you for digging up the information and making it accessible. In the USA there's a distinct lack of information about these extremely interesting rifles and the culture around them. The rifle grenades are a fascinating piece of history, and you can't help but factor in the Swiss culture and military situation when you think about these odd small arms developments.
And the amount of effort that went into producing the grenades... it's like the Swiss just can't help but do their very best. It's inspiring in a way.

@@DaletheStgwDude I think part of the reason I'm so fascinated with what you're documenting and preserving is the fact that when this era in military history comes up, the focus is usually on the USA/NATO and the Soviets as superpowers.
It's refreshing to learn about little Switzerland, who had such a different situation and culture. And despite being so small, the development and engineering that went into their equipment, tactics, and strategy is just fascinating. The Swiss weren't in the same "race" that most of the world was engaging in at the time.

Great job on the video. Assembling a carrot is far more involved than I had assumed.

I find swiss development of such a huge rifle grenades astonishing. Knowing that the stg 57 was developed as strong and heavy as it is just to be able to handle these carots, i wander if the Panzerfaust would be a better idea. It sure is if you consider the cost but probably they maximized the amount of carrots a soldier coud carry vs the number of panzerfausts.

@@DaletheStgwDude Your "Chapter 2: Technical Desc. and Evol." and any patent/trial info regarding minimum arming distances/rocket motor design. Specifically, I'm interested in the safety factors of the arming devices for the grenades. A lot of times these designs don't behave as intended in the real world and I'd like to understand what drove the design and what compromises were made.

@@DaletheStgwDude Additionally, I just want to express my appreciation for what you're doing. There are so many examples of engineers and design teams working on something that ends up being forgotten. P.S.
Your presentation on the uniform design reminded me of the German Koppelhaken. Trying to find information on why they designed uniforms like this and how soldiers viewed it in battle is difficult to come by. Just like rifle grenades, it seems to be an evolutionary dead end for equipment design.

an interesting marking i noticed on a ug 58 i have. that when you unscrew the fins 1/3rd of the way it exposed some markings that read: a circled T , "M94" and a circle with 3 lines pointing inwards.
i am curious if others in your colection have that marking aswell?

    • @DaletheStgwDude
      @DaletheStgwDude  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes all tubes are marked, these varied as time went on.
      - the circle with three inward lines is the seal test proof mark
      - M94 is the metal supplier and material batch code
      - circled T is likely the machining/finishing subcontractor, don’t know which company exactly. Some include Emil Leibundgut AG, Hispano Suiza etc.
