For the switch, you could try what they do on a roller coaster. Have two complete, separate track segments on a slider, one straight and one curved. When you want to switch the track, have a piston move the slider to line up the direction you want to go.
ahh SE being SE. the wobble you are experiencing is known as Hunting and is a phenomenon well documented by real Railroads. the wheels are trying to find their path which with SE Physics, can get a bit janky. it would be nice for Keen to actually make proper track and Railroad Wheel Bogies so all us Couch Engineers can go all Ham creating kewl stuff.
That’s cool it’s actually a real thing shame the physics engine can’t quite do it. I can’t wait to see what the new Space engineers engine will be able to do then make a new game
To get them going max speed, use jet engines or even install lightspeed to make some cross-world vehicles? Only problem I see is the curvature of the planet when going super fast? Probably also some top-heavy tipping issues if you are going too fast on a curve. Trains also make sense if you have a mod like Resource Nodes where you have mines all over the place and need to train a massive amount from each location back to your main base.
With the arrival of the new automation blocks, it will be fantastic, we will even be able to cross roads with autonomous signals. this video came at a good time. rails have rules, low speed in curves, and the curves are not closed, another thing I would try would be to put 4 wheels and not 6 on each Trick
Try taking a trip down a different track: Monorails. They usually work much better in SE. Go to the workshop, and look up the Dawnstar Freight Train, and the Dawnstar Bullet Train. The first is slow & steady & one of the earliest examples of functioning trains in the game, and the latter is newer but far more capable & extremely stable at maximum speed. Study their designs, and be inspired. 👍
Would you consider releasing that world on the steam workshop or the train tracks and the trains you had made up? I've been trying to reproduce the tracks and can't get the bends to work for me. Thanks!
Look at how a real train engines wheels are set up. Especially older steam engines. You could make any configuration. Example a 2-3-2 , 2small 3large 2small.
9:00 you just copied my design of the rails :D these are best and most stable. You just need to optimize bogies for trains. Small grid railroad will not work for long distances because of high number of blocks
No offence I didn’t copy any design, after looking I can see you have made the same one but I don’t know, random luck I guess. I also have thought about the issue with long grids and that is why you have to split them up, that way it’s more stable
@@quantumchief yeah it will be random. I was working on trains for 1,5 years till I created this design. One of the last updates of SE helped with armor plates. Design of rail also affect the scale or size of the trains and its maximal speed, quality of tide and maximal railway length. I automaticaly split rail after removing all hinges to reduce number of subgrids and number of blocks

you should try using the beam blocks, i made a train and it was a fun challenge designing a train that could do that.
Switch track I believe is the term your looking for. A siding is a place for 1 train to sit till another passes by. Good job
yep, sometimes the words just slip my mind

Great work!
Thinking even a monorail type. May even be more efficient.
Use the same under carriage assembly and track bit flip it upside down..?

the only reason i was using 6 wheels was so i could have 4 guide wheels between them but yea i could try 4
low speed in curves? rly? :D check my videos.. I can go up to 80m/s and sometimes also 120m/s. Trains in SE is truly challenging

I will look in to other rail types, and as for looking at other peoples designs, i like to come up with my own ideas first before i start looking
Traihn
Now I need a tutorial on how to make trains
That will come as soon as I make a 100% solid track

it was annoying to do, so i don't blame you if you found it hard, if you join my discord i should be able to share you the steam link to a blueprint

I have thought about doing that, but at the moment I am more just looking at track designs
Mano, faltou o mod que tem blocos com trilhos de trem 😭😭😭
i like to try and do stuff mod-less at first

Why 3 axled trucks?
what do you mean 3 axled?
