Hi folks. I am impressed with your ingenuity, I do so hope it all works flawlessly. I offer a few suggestions which might improve your experience immensely: 1)you're underestimating how sticky & uncomfortable you will be, sleeping at night in the Australian warm seasons so I suggest you do something to improve your air flow such as a 12v fan. You won't want to have to rely on leaving the windows down a little because of flies, mosquito's etc and it will get very stuffy. 2)40 litres of drinking water is essential, it sounds like a lot but that's only 20 litres of water each and you'll need it whilst you are travelling about. You can buy 10 or 20 litres of water for cheap from supermarkets, grocers etc. They've got a tap or valve system like goon bags (wine cask's) do, they can be pulled off for refilling but are heavy so my suggestion is to put them near doors, at floor level and shielded from the sun.this makes refilling easier and keeps water cooler. 3) Get an emergency jump start pack, these are powered by lithium batteries and charge up from either the car's accessories socket or mains power supply plug. This will get you out of trouble if your batteries are drained and unable to start your car whilst you are travelling about in the Never -Never. *3 crucial, bonus tips for travelling across Australia: A) Lithium batteries swell and fail in hot heat, cameras, gimbals etc also won't work in high temps so pack things in coolie bags etc (again, just a couple of dollars from supermarkets etc and they'll keep your shopping cool too). I've linked a youtube video I made which mentions this in a gimbal review which I did a couple of years ago th-cam.com/video/dss8V2T28yA/w-d-xo.html B) AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY RECHARGE WHAT YOU CAN FROM THE MAINS POWER SUPPLY. Get some powerboards and extension cords to charge stuff up when you are at a powered caravan site etc. This reduces the load on your cars 12v system and increases your self sufficiency. C) get a cheap two person dome tent from Kmart, Big W etc. You will be more comfortable sleeping outside of your car sometimes, eg getting a powered caravan site in a caravan park. This'll allow you to stretch out with more space than the back of the car and still recharge everything ie camera batteries, lap tops, drones, torches aka flashlights etc. I know this is advice is much more long-winded than I intended but it comes from someone who lives in the outback, rode a bicycle across 3 Australian states + a territory during the Aussie summer, crossing 2 deserts.
Yes @robstratton6296, they are very welcome to visit and yes if we can find space, stay a night or two. That being said, space is hard to find as we are raising our grand daughter and caring for my sister in law but we do have shower, laundry facilities, wifi and power leads if they choose to stay with us. We live in the southern Flinders Ranges of South Australia. The nearest small city/ big town is Port Augusta, population of about 18,000 people. We would be an ideal resting place if they're planning to travel into the outback or before/after crossing the Nullarbor Plain.
Well done guys you know what we call what you’ve done in Australia? “You gave it a red hot crack” and bloody well done to you both. I think you may be more Aussie than you think that’s what we are all about giving something a go and you guys did just that and came up Gold 💯💯💯😊
@GlenAndMado Hi guys , Aussie subscriber here. please 🙏 make sure you take a First Aid kit with you, especially a pressure bandage for snake bite, 🐍 Stingos for ant bites ( they are so painful) buy at chemist and whatever else the chemist recommends. The dirt roads in the outback are quite rough and will vibrate everything in the car. Pack it well. p.s. get yourself some battery fans for the hot nights. If you want the windows open you may need some mesh from bunnings for the mozzies etc.
Well done G & M (Master Builders). After watching this, I feel confident enough to build a third bedroom to my house, thanks for the inspiration. Go Well xx
Wow guys, I am thoroughly impressed by your resilience. The car looks amazing. Stay safe and have fun. I am looking forward to sharing your travels with you.
corrugated roads out bush are unforgiving guys make sure everything tied down lashed and secured really well , enjoy your adventure , dont use that stove in the car use a table
@1dancier Best wishes & hope you are blessed with good weather on your trip, remember your sunscreen and a hat. Also a really good thing is to take a flattened cardboard box, if you need to change a tyre or work on your vehicle it's cool to sit on as opposed to a sun scorched, hot stretch of sealed road , or lay on the ground under the car with a significantly lessened chance of losing a bolt, nut or screw in the grass. It folds flat underneath all of your gear, if it gets ruined it's easy & probably free to replace. For the same reason as given above take a hand towel etc with you because lug nuts can become blisteringly hot in our outback sun, you can wipe the sweat of your brow or check your engine oil level etc. 😊
Great job you two! Well done with the curtains too but for the front I'd put a silver sun shield type on the windscreen. You can secure with some suction cups but it will be dual purpose to keep the sun out during the day and privacy at night.
Regarding Repelling insects. I don’t know how you guys are keeping the mosquitoes off yourselves but I will give you a recipe for an Australian insect repellent so you don’t have to put nasty chemicals on yourself constantly : 2/3 Baby oil. 1/3 Dettol antiseptic liquid. It works great and doesn’t leave you feeling oily and yucky. We used to use that in the tropics and it works really well.
My mate did that up in central Queensland. After the rain finally stopped these massive sandflies swarmed in. They left us with welts. I had spray but that wasn't going to last with all of ius who were camped there.
Take the following as spare or emergencies. Tyre or tube, fuel, oil, water, spares, first aid kit, food, torch, compass, map and and more you can never be prepared enough. Enjoy Australia and welcome.

I suggest the front curtain if you put say 3 suction cups on the bottom of the curtain you could then pull the bottom of the curtain over the front seats and they can stick on the bottom of the windscreen which then would block the sun's heat off. The curtain would act as a heat shield. This would be good if you went for a hike or some time away from the car.
