Would you buy a new-build house?

New builds are made of cheap material, materials used doesn't last a long, corners are always cut on site is the culture in this day and age (because they wont get caught), and the skill is not there which was 30+ years ago.

Totally agree about the skill shortage. This problem is only going to get worse over time

I've bought and sold 8 houses in my life over the last 40 years. The best 2 (including where I've lived the last 15 years) were ex Local Government houses built in the late 40's/early 50's. These are more spacious, have good built in storage, good sized gardens, and had schools, shops and health facilities built at the same time. I would never buy a new build.

Not all new builds are poorly made and some have great quality materials. However, my problem is that they are crammed together without any consideration for garden size or privacy. Quite often they are extremely over looked and block paved in the front after removing all the trees and greenery. Also, the law that there must be a certain percentage of social housing causes a lot of problems. If you pay hounded of thousands of pounds for a house you are more invested than the housing association person that can be your neighbour. I have seen this fake social engineering lead to envy and many problems.

My idea of a Brittish house is a fully carpeted house (even the bathroom), a lousy kitchen with one cabinet and a staircase taking up 50% of the space...

There is only a housing shortage because developers deliberatly trickle feed them into the market to keep damand and prices high, the council should go back to building proper houses.

So nothing to do with the millions coming in to our country both legal and other wise?
Our birth rates have been below replacement for decades so the demand is coming from somewhere.

I'm not too keen on new housing estates being built because of the enviromental impact over the last couple of years I've seen local wildlife getting displaced because their homes are being destroyed because of the construction.

Terrible layouts, tiny shoe boxes with baby radiators, glass everywhere (in a cold country wtf) and overlooked as hell. Also management fees, no thanks.

I think its the new builds from the top 6 house builders that are ripping us off. I'm sure if you was on Grand Designs and you specced up a new build and got a contractor in, the build quality would be totally different from the top 6 house builders.

  • @user-xu5vl5th9n

New build are always more risk as there are more unknowns. Developers artificially restrict supply to maintain the price premium. Avoid.

The loop is just too short - it’s really repetitive. In the mix it’s a little high but it’s not so much the level as just a rly repetitive sample and that’s where it’s a little annoying. I think the initial comment is an exaggeration though - still a rly good video.

    • @mashroomrent
      @mashroomrent  ปีที่แล้ว +1

We thought the repetitive sample was the main problem, too, and we are sorry about it. Thank you for the feedback.

Because their badly design all crammed on on estates with no street verges or front gardens ect... Like scabs on the landscape when they could be built to sit nicely within it... Made out of polystyrene type materials for "efficiency" while leaving passive heating and cooling from solar gain in the table. Therefore bad acoustics and hard to manage air quality.
Just making the same old cubes sticking out the ground when they should be like earthships with large south facing windows with a substantial thermal mass and earth mound opposite. Passive heat gain in winter and convection for cooling in summer driven only by the sun, much reduced energy needs otherwise.

Ok so when you come to sell your New build property who is going to buy it. There is a tiny market for second hand homes. Most people who want that style of home will just buy a new build. Also from an investment point of view the shelf life is the same length as the morgage (25 years) so when you have paid it off it wont be worth anything. Hopefully you own the land its built on otherwise your screwed.

sorry, slightly off topic but mentioned in your video.... 7000 people per Doctor in new areas? But you have one at least... In Ontario, Canada my Doctor retired a year and half ago, and we are on a waiting list with an average wait time of 3-1/2 yrs and rising for a new family Dr. Its becoming evident ALL our various Governments of the last twenty or so years want to put us into a health care crisis so we can go to an American style, (pay) the worst on the planet.

Statist regulation and immigration means that the number of houses that can be build in a year can never meet demand, fix those and prices will fall but of cause most people in government would lose money if that happened so it is very unlikely to happen...

no it won't. THat is the biggest lie ever. To reduce house prices make them all cash purchases - no such thing as mortgages. Then you'll see house prices crash.
