I worked at FBF on and off over the last 6 years but havent made it to Dead Horse Bay. I was amazed reading about Barren Island and the community that lived there.
And you did a GREAT job driving to the DHB. Only saw you run ONE stop sign. The lights were all yellow when you went under them.
Hi Merrill you can test for silver by placing the ring or coin in aluminium kitchen foil and spit on it I know a little gross fold it up if it smells like rotten eggs generates some heat and if you put it to your ear and it fizzes it's skilvah
Great seeing Dead Horse Bay again. Adele is a peach. Been wondering how she was doing during the Pandemic but she hasn't seemed to change. The Vintage-looking Vehicle on the back of the St. Christopher medal looks like Firemen on a Firetruck. Maybe from the early 20th century..
squareish thing at 26 minutes might be a part of a locket. the top part. also might have had an isinglass cover in it. isinglass is a mineral that is very clear and is in layers so that it could be split into those thin layers and used like glass in small applications. used extensively in very old woodstove doors. the 'thing' is probably from a small photo kept in the pocket by a man, of his sweetheart.
That thing at 11mins looks like it could be a Medical ID Bracelet. Usually people with Diabetes or other medical conditions would wear them, I have one that says "Just throw me in the trash"
the leaf thingy is a girl scout pin. i had one as a 9 yo.

The silver bracelet could possibly be a US army identification bracelet from the 1940's. Have you established if there is any writing on it or serial number? Great find whatever. Cheers from Hampshire in the UK.
19:32 That coin is unfortunately not silver, it is a French coin from the 20's made of copper nickel

That silver thing near the end I think wold have been a photo frame . It’s very old .
Hi Merrill, the silver disc with the hole looks like a 50yen coin. They are made of cupronickel. They came out in 1967 and were first made of Nickel. I can see the definition of the coin so I could be totally wrong...it's been known to happen. Come on Phillup the BOX! cricket. PS Sissy and Bro know you have been irradiated!!

HI Metal Detecting NYC: I am a very Newbie and need advice. I will try to make this sensible as I can:) when I turn on my Detector and press the Disc Button the book tells me to then press the + or - button to change the values mine starts at 00 and can go up to 11. I am not sure what this does to the use of the Disc. the destruction Book is very basic:) as I am.
The higher the disc the more it tunes out less conductive targets pull tabs, nickels, foil, gold, bottle caps and iron. It sounds like my first detector. For your next, buy a simplex at 250 dollars. It will make a world of difference.
