    Kaweco listened to its customers "sort of" I think that most of us who wanted a piston filling pen was for its ink capacity but, if it has the same capacity as a cartridge, it only has the disadvantages of this type of pens: more difficult to clean and maintain, at a higher price. I have no problem filling a cartridge with a syringe and, if I am traveling, I can carry a couple of spare cartridges, instead of a bottle of ink

      Well, time has changed and technology evolves but not that evolved. There is always a cost trying to step out of the trend. Oh wait, piston sport should be counted as two steps to be exact.

      Serious economists used to distinguish the people's preferences from their 'demonstrated' preferences. The former are expressed in surveys internet and other venues. The latter in actual purchases.
      Since about half of economy today revolves around the former, people have kind of forgotten the difference.
      Wish good luck to this new model of an excelent company that has caused many of us to fall in love with fountain pens again But actual sells will tell. You made a good point.

      I usually also refill cartridges with a syringe. But many people asked for this and also the CEO of Kaweco wanted this... I don't know if the main reason for having a piston filled pen is the ink capacity. Not sure at all. So, it is nice to have the option of getting just a regular AL Sport, for cartridges. I am enjoying this one, but usually I prefer cartridges over pistons.

    Thank you for this clear and thorough review! I'm firmly on the fence with this pen. I love my Kaweco Sports and the idea of reviving a vintage model is very cool, but the only advantage of the piston filling system is the larger ink capacity. Otherwise, they're a pain to clean and maintain. And $170? We're deep in gold nib territory.

    • @totallylegit2068
      @totallylegit2068 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      they could easily add a gold nib for maybe 15 dollars more. it's crazy how exorbitant kaweco's prices are. they even trademarked another company's name because they had a cap with facets (not even the same number of facets).

    • @OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita
      @OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for watching. I am not saying it is cheap, but though it is gold nib territory, there aren't piston filler pens with gold nib at this price. The cheappest I think is Lamy 2000 at around 250€...

    • @OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita
      @OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      For 15$ more, how realistic could that be? Gold #5 Bock nibs are not inexpensive... With a quick search at an European online store, the cheappest pen with a gold nib is a Sailor 1911 Profit Light, for 140€... And the cheappest with a piston, and not even made of metal is the Lamy 2000 for 250€. It is hard to spend this amount of money. But in the fountain pen ecossystem I don't think it would be possible to create a piston filling system for a metal pen with a gold nib for only 200€ as you suggest.
      This is a really interesting discussion, about pen cost and price, and our will to pay the price. Maybe it is material for a video on its own...

      @@mkompan Sure. I think US has special trade agreements with Japan. Here in Europe not so much. So I compared it with my reality here, and that is why I use the prices in €. I was really excited when I saw this pen at their website. But when I searched further and further for vintage kaweco piston fillers I realized that you can get a better pen for cheaper. I bought a vintage kaweco set with a 12 g and a ballpoint pen for less than the retail price. But the pen has larger ink capacity and a gold nib. We also have to mention that the gold nibs back then from kaweco where ahead of all the other German manufacturers. So I am happy that the piston sport got me into this topic but I think that it is a really bad deal to buy it.

    • @OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita

      I agree vintage ones are nice. I have some. But I think they are unreilable and sometimes very hard to repair. I destroyed one during repair. This is the way to go for a new one. Otherwise, if one know what to expect from vintage used pens, we can get great deals, not only from Kaweco (I'm also thinking about older Japanese pocket pens).

    Thanks for a great review. I was really looking forward to this pen, but it turns out to be a little too expensive, even though I understand how much went into creating it. But my vintage V15 Sport piston fill works fine, without a blind cap, and with a gold nib, although also without a built in clip. It will remain on my wish list for awhile. The Luxe is also one of my favorites and would welcome a comparison.

      Other metal version should be rather easy to push out, as the metal exterior is likely a thin shell being attached to an isolated plastic/acrylic/resin insert.

      @OdE-ObjectosdeEscrita  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Recommendations are that, with such ink, the pen should be cleaned frequently... So, for a piston filler I wouldn't use it. If it was a cartridge filled pen it would be easier. Even if yoou didn't use all the ink, you could put the cartridge aside, clean the pen and put it back without wasting any ink.

  • @nommh
    @nommh 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I bought a vintage Kaweco sport for less. It is resin, has nicer proportions and a gold nib in oblique. Judging from the ink window the ink capacity may be a little higher than a standard cartridge. I’m not concerned with ink capacity though.
