  • Here’s what @thesidingguy (Instagram) has to say about board and batten siding (at least he has our patent pending sidinf adapter to make it go quickly):
I don’t really like installing vertical siding compared to horizontal siding mainly because it’s slower. You have to trim and flash everything all the way up first, then set yourself up at a height where you can reach the top and bottom of the siding. With 12’ pieces, you end up going up and down for the whole wall. But after the wall is complete, that’s where the satisfaction kicks in.
For board and batten, you always want to allow more room to expand down then up. In this case, the box of siding said right on the box (1/4” space to the top and 3/8” expansion allowance to the bottom). So this means hanging the siding off of the top nail which is why I set it by hand. The bottom J-channel should have drain holes drilled in to allow accumulating no water to drain out onto the flashing.
With the cordless nailer/vinyl siding adapter, it really helps to speed things up as it’s no fun hammering by hand below the plank with little room.
I hope this short video gives you a little bit of information if you didn’t know. Thanks for watching and keep killing it out there 👊🏻
